It was worth going just to say that I have been but that is as far as it goes for me. I had much greater expectation than what was in the end the reality. It is a tired museum dark and dusty that needs serious updating. I was not drawn to this comprehensive collection at all, I just lazily walked... more

The sheer abundance of artifacts in this museum is nothing short of amazing. It was cool to be up close and personal with history with beautiful pieces of work, but my good comments end there. Here's what I didn't like- 1. Admission. $10 is pretty pricey in my opinion. Especially for the Middle East. Of course, the museum is a... more

This place is hot and huge. There are lots of important things to see. Try to see the important things and if you have time do the rest which will take forever. I do not think they have air conditioning so go early. more

I agree with the reviewer below...it was such an amazing place, all of the Egyptian treasures and antiques put under one roof. I did not find it dirty at all, everything was kept under good conditions. One thing i did not like are the loo's, that I have to say on the other hand was dirty, but that didn't spoil... more

We went to the Museum as part of our guided tour with Rasha. Firstly I agree with a few of the previous comments but bear in mind these two points. 1. The museum was built in 1902 and by a French architect who didn't compensate for a) the heat of the Egyptian Sun and b) Howard Carters 1922 discovery. 2.... more

I visited this museum last week. I have wanted to visit this museum for such a long time and see for myself all the amazing artifacts that I knew it held. I was frankly shocked at what I found. Room after room of priceless objects piled high in tatty display boxes full of dust with dirty glass. In some parts... more

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo was built in the late 1800's and was opened in 1902. The founder of the museum was the French archaeologist Auguste Mariette, who thought that the antiquities belonged in Egypt and not in various European private collections. When you arrive, make sure that you do not carry any "weapons" with you, as they will be... more

The Cairo museum has approximately 1.2 Million items on exhibit (over 3 acres) and a further 4.2 million in storage. The items are not labeled very well, if at all. It is said that if you spent one minute at each exhibit, it would take you 9 months to see them all! So where do you start? What is the... more

I was sorely disappointed. If this museum has a curator, he or she should be drawn and quartered. The vast majority of the artifacts on display are presented with no information, and the information that is presented appears to have been typed up about 30 years ago on a manual typewriter. The Arab may be clear, but the English descriptions... more

This is a museum that everyone has to visit at least once. 6000 years of history are represented by innumerable objects and unbeliavable treasures. The only drawback is that it is an old-style museum, much like the old European museums: as many exhibits as possible. Fortunately, the Egyptian government is building the new museum, which will be a monumental building... more
