We rented a car and drove to all the missions. Did them all in one day. Great trip. Mission San Jose has a visitor center. We choose to walk around by ourselves because with the tour it just took way too long. They have lots of school groups and explain to them in detail every little thing. It is real... more
I took the local bus ($1.00) out to see the mission. Fantastic. It's a large site and they restored it well. Lots of informative signage and the tourist center is really set up nicely too. Blew the Alamo away! The gift shop had a lot of nice books on the old missions too. It's definately a must see while in... more
Excellent, informative and interesting. If you only see one mission, see this one. Make sure you see the video presentation in the Information Centre. more
I love to visit historical sites, and this was a very interesting place to visit. It is much larger than I originally thought, and I learned a lot about mission life in Texas in the 1700's. I wish they would tell you more about what parts of the mission are original and which parts have been "remodeled", but all in... more
We visited Mission San Jose, and totally loved it. We arrived around 10:30 AM on Sunday, in order to walk around the grounds before the noon Mariachi mass. The 10:30 mass gets out around 11:30, and visitors line up ahead of time for the noon mass, so try and arrive by 11:30. As we entered the church, we were amazed... more

I found it to be very spiritual. Popular mariachi masses are held there every Sunday at noon (come early if you want a seat). This is also the... more
Went to the Mission San Jose on Sunday September 24, and it was the most wonderful experience. They have a Mariachi Band every Sunday for the 12 noon mass. I am not Catholic however 3 of the people I brough there were. The people at the mass were so warm and welcoming. At the beginning of the service they announced... more
Enjoyed visiting this mission. There is no entrance fee. Kids and adults will all enjoy this visit. In my opinion it was more impressive than visiting the Alamo. It is the largest of the Missions. In front of the visitors center is a wheelbarrow with brochures in them which offers interesting information. Inside the visitors center they show a 23... more
As a boy age-6,1953, I attended 1-st grade in the single wood bldg,1-level San Jose Mission School taught by the Nuns , I have visted the Mission probably 4-times since my childhood when I moved out of Texas , It has remained to be a focal point in my early childhood memories , the grounds were then covered with beautiful... more
