The hike is a challenge. Be sure to wear comfortable sneakers, the ground is uneven and people wearing sandles were slipping here and there. The staircases are long and narrow and you have to duck through a little passageway to get to the top. Go Early! The top of Diamond Head has great views of the ocean and the mountains... more

Even having lived in Hawaii this was my first time hiking up Diamond Head and I highly recommend it. By all means, drive in and pay the small fee to park in the lot. We saw tour buses of Japanese tourists walking in about a half mile and trust me you don't want the extra exertion before you make the... more

Our group of 9 arrived mid morning (in June) and, as we had seen at many Hawaiian sights, the parking lot and waiting line were full, so we'd either have to park further downhill or come back later. We tried again 15 minutes later and we're able to pay and get into the waiting line and were parked within 5... more

We did this hike with a few people in their 50's who don't work out much, and they did it fine. Take plenty of water and take your time. Also, go early when you can get some occasional shade. The views at the top are really nice. I found it a bit unusual to have such a good hiking experience... more

My wife and I went on our honeymoon, took the bus (#22,23,24 I think) and walked in for $1 each. We decided to use this opportunity for a nice workout. Now we are not work out fanatics, but try to hit the Gym twice a week. So I set a brisk walking pace up the hill and my wife was... more

I've done this "hike" several times, with husband and 2 young daughters, then again with each daughter when they were in their teens. Each time we got to the top beofre 10am. Be aware that there is very little shade, if any, so be prepared with sunscreen and most definately water, if you go after 9am. It does get quite... more

A 15 minute bus trip or a 45 minute walk (we took The Bus there and yes, walked back) and it was all worth it. The hike up the mountain itself was mild - moderate...in fact, we saw quite a few 10-12 year olds on the trail and they were doing just fine, it was their parents that were having... more

Unlike a lot of the commercialized spots in Waikiki, Daimond Head offers a little bit of nature within blocks of the beach. We really enjoyed our trek up the crater after spending the day before in Pearl Harbor and parts north. Wear sturdy soled shoes and you can purchase water, shaved ice, hot dogs etc from the vendors at the... more

Our family of four (2 adults, 2 teens) enjoyed our Diamond Head hike the first weekend in April. We arrived arround nine in the morning and completed the hike in about an hour and a half with a stop at the top for pictures. It is an aerobic hike, to be sure, and we are all in good shape. It... more

This was an excellent experience. We booked our hike through Oahu Nature tours & it was great to learn about the nature & history while hiking up. Our guide, Gavin, was awesome and very patient with those of us who had to rest. Yes, all those stairs were worth it-the view at the top was like nothing I have ever... more
