What a location - it is fabulous and the Grand Canyon was beyond expectations. A truly wonderful destination. We stayed in a ground floor standard room. I cannot fault the room. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Our room was yards from the rim. The furnishings in the hotel are in need of a refurbish. Photos look good... more

Having previously visited Grand Canyon and staying outside the park at Tusayan, I vowed that if I ever returned, it would be to stay at the El Tovar. We stayed 3 nights. The location is spectacular and it was fantastic to just be able to step outside and enjoy the canyon at any time of day or night. Our room... more

This hotel is in a spectacular location on the south rim over looking the Grand Canyon and on one of the many Hiking Trails around the Canyon. But in essence it is very old and run down, in dire need of a refurb and trades off its historical reputation and location. The service is poor, food is just awful and... more

Our stay at the El Tovar exceeded our expectations. After reading reviews on Trip Advisor I was concerned that our experience would not live up to expectations and was happily wrong! First, it helps that we stayed in the suites in the Hotel. We stayed in the Zane Gray suite, on the third floor, for one nite and it was... more

We stayed two nights ,probably the best location in south rim . The room was large but the bathroom small with old fashion furniture !! and it was a deluxe room . There is no elevator and concierge unfriendly for your baggage problems . It is an overpriced hotel , the restaurant is not excellent with a short menu .... more

We thought this hotel was spectacular for its location. It was beautiful and impressive as we arrived but our enthusiasm dimmed over our visit. The staff at check-in and out were aloof and unfriendly. We were handed a room key with no instuctions on its location. Then desk staff began to debate between themselves if we must have a bellman... more

My partner and I stayed here from 3-5 September and the location is quite stunning. We found the staff that we dealt with very helpful- most of whom are not Americans, which was quite a surprise. I'd agree that the rooms are on the small side, although very clean and well maintained. And yes, the sound proofing was not great.... more

OK...we haven't stayed at the El Tovar yet. But we have reserves 17 September, 2008 and will surely love it. I check TripAdvisor a lot and find it a very helpful tool...but I just have to comment on the fact that all negative reviews on your site seem to come from: A: New York or New Jersey B: The affluent... more

The El Tovar is a nice, clean, historical hotel with a lot to offer if you want to stay within Grand Canyon National Park. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is excellent. I would not, however, recommend the restaurant there. Not many years ago most hotel restaurants seemed to be overpriced with pretty average food. The... more

We stayed here with our 3 teenage daughters for two nights in early August. The location, right on the South rim, was excellent. To be able to step right out of the hotel and be right there on the rim was amazing! Our rooms were 'below terrace' and like a previous reviewer I found it incredible that there was no... more
