We booked this hotel for five nights, but as my husband had to go back to work for an emergency, we wanted to cancel the last night. The manager, Roberto, was quite chilly about this and told us if we cancelled one night, we would have to cancel all five nights, as 'people are lining up to stay here'. So... more

Overall the experience was good, with some caveats. My room was very small, which was fine as I was traveling solo. If I had been with a boyfriend it would have been really difficult, and not very sexy to have the toilet visibly open to the rest of the cabana. The maids keep the rooms very nice and clean. I... more

No hot water, a million mosquitos, and one 40 watt bulb in my room. Plus I had to beg for toilet paper and clean towels. This is not a vacation. Heads Up: if you are attending as part of a group, as I was, you are probably being overcharged. The going rate for rooms there is in the $100 range--you'll... more

My wife and I stayed at The Shambala Petit Hotel for our ten year wedding anniversary from March 3-10 and loved it. It was our best vacation ever. Some of my favorite times at Shambala were on the beach at night looking up at the stars through palm fronds or just laying in the hammock taking in the sounds of... more

We had an all-around bad experience with Shambala. In December 2006 we made a reservation for 6 nights in March 2007, in the beachfront casita "Eolo". We had a lengthy correspondence with the manager, Roberto, in order to settle our arrangements, and even saw pictures of our casita. To confirm the reservation, we offered to send a deposit, but Roberto... more

My wife and I enjoyed our week long stay at Shambala Petit in January, although our review is not as quite gushing as the others below. Roberto was very helpful during the booking process and our first impressions upon arrival late at night were great. The design of the area is very thoughtful with ample areas to relax including a... more

Shambala was exactly as described. We got there late to the friendliest reception we could imagine and crashed into our enormous beds only to be woken by the beautiful sunrise shining through the glass walls of our casita. The atmosphere is totally relaxed and the staff are a brilliant laugh, not only putting up with our wonderment at their towel... more

My fiance and I spent four fantastic days at Shambala in Nov 2006 and have since recommended this hotel to friends. The property and casitas were very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. This is a beautiful place to stay if you are truly looking to get away from it all. If you are even considering a property... more

My wife and 16 month old daughter spent seven nights at Shambala in July and we loved it, although it's probably not for everyone. Compared to all the other "rustic" (no elec at night, no air con, palm roof) hotels at the south end of the beach, Shambala does seem to have something special. The huge mattresses on the beach... more

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for seven nights in June and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Roberto makes you feel at home immediately......he recommended great restaurants and created an atmosphere that is seemingly effortless yet perfect and relaxing. I did a lot of research before we headed to Tulum and decided... more
