Rooms and facilities Having tried and failed to get a corner room on check-in, which according to the Lonely Planet guide, is the best type of room to get as they are larger with more windows, we settled for a room lookng out onto the side street. The room was an average size for a city centre hotel, with a... more

I stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago and it was ok. The location is great (really good) and there is a large breakfast. The bathroom is very big and the beds were comfortable. It was a warm day in March and we wanted to open the windows for fresh air, but the windows only opened a few inches... more

Great hotel in a fantastic location. Rooms are small but very clean and the 2 sink bathrooms are excellent. Staff helped us change the time of our airport transfer for no charge. Breakfast was fine and the coffee delicious. An excellent capital city hotel.( as stated on other reviews the airport transfer driver got very lost and we spent a... more

Great position and a neat, clean hotel, Grand Via one block away, pedestrian shopping precinct as well is a block away. Could not fault this 3 star hotel. The meals were excellent, even stayed in for dinner one evening and were very surprised at the quality. Staff were efficient without being friendly, as some have commented. Our room was of... more

Great location only one block off Gran Via. Despite being in a pedestrian district, cab was able to drop us right at the door. Only 1 block to Callao Metro station and 3 or so blocks to either Gran Via or Sol Metro stations. All the main sights from the Prado to the Palacio Real are within reasonable walking distance.... more

What a fab hotel. 3 * but we stayed at a 4* in March and this was miles better. Right next to the main shopping area but not that close that it is noisy. Great access to Metro (SOL is the closest). I requested a king size bed when we went, don't ask don't get I thought. To my surprise... more

Great hotel. Good value. Small, like most European hotels, but not too cramped. Great location near Gran Via (the main business/shopping street). Walking distance to most of the sites in Madrid. Receptionist speaks decent English, though not terribly friendly. Nice, but expensive restaurant. Recommended sites to see in/near Madrid: Prado Museum, Toledo (take the train and tour yourself), Escorial (the... more

After some of the other hotels we stayed in during our nine city tour of Spain, I was initially disappointed with the small, dark, spartan room. The location on Abada Street (which means rhinoceros in Spanish!) is just off the Gran Via and Carmen St. It is a short walk to the major plazas, restaurants and stores. We did not... more

We stayed in the Hotel II Castillas for 5 nights in early May. It is located on a small side street near the Gran Via. Only a short walk to a metro, Plaza Del Carmen and Pureta Del Sol. There is shopping and restaurants in every direction. The rooms are small but very clean and well kept. The bathroom has... more

We were wary when this hotel dropped from No 1 on TA to somewhere in the 60's. No need for concern. Our twin room was immaculate and a reasonable size with street view (Rm 403) - the doubles looked smaller/darker. Large bathroom, powerful shower and a bath, hairdryer. Air con and comfy enough beds. The breakfast was fab - hams,... more
