Me and my friend stayed at the Yuhara Ryokan in may last year. We wanted to stay somewhere very Japanese and Yuhara were cheap and well located. A bit hard to find first but there is no problems to get help on the way. Even if you don´t speak Japanese. An elderly gentleman drowe us a map:) The room was... more

The Yuhara Ryokan seemed like a great place. Issues like curfew and times to get out were not a problem because we just needed a place to spend the night. We wanted a Japanese experience and the Yuhara is very picturesque. Mrs. Yuhara and her son are INCREDIBLY nice. Very helpful and they were flexible with the curfew. We had... more

It's not a bad ryokan, but just be prepared that it's like going back in time and staying in a boarding school. Mrs Yuhara and her son are really friendly and helpful and provided us with very handy and detailed information, but I would not stay here again. First of all, the place is really hard to find because no... more

I did not have the chance to stay at this wonderfully reviewed ryokan. Unfortunately, because of a mis-communicated email address, my reservation, which I was assured repeatedly would be held for 1 day, was given away by the hotel managers within one hour of realizing the misspelled email address. It was very disappointing. I highly recommend FAXING your request in... more

Mrs. Yuhara and her son were so pleasant and delightful. We had a great stay and the location was perfect. It was easy to get to/from the train station, Gion Corner, and the main part of the city. The ryokan is within walking distance to many temples and eateries. Kawa, a restaurant next door, served good food at a very... more

We had a spacious room over looking the canel which was beautiful - although the noise from other guests in hallway can be irritating! Excellent value for money and the walking distance to Gion - even saw Geishas walking down our street! Host is very lovely with good english. The only downfall of this Ryokan would be the share bath... more

Whilst in Tokyo in December 06 my wife and I decided to take a side trip to Kyoto for a couple of days. We called the Yuhara Ryokan directly and made our booking a couple of days in advance. After the Shinkansen ride down we alighted at Kyoto station and using the Lonely Planet as our guide, made the 15... more

Yuhara was a complete gem. I was travelling with my mum and she loved the wonderful welcome and the experience of staying in a traditional Japanese house. The rooms were spotless and each evening we arrived back to find our futons laid out and hot tea brewing! There's a great okonomiyaki place a couple of doors up, which also does... more

We had a wonderful wonderful time at Ryokan Yuhara. Mrs Yuhara and her son were very attentive, the service was excellent. The room was clean and comfortable, and the personally prepared bath was amazing after spending a long day out sight seeing! It felt like a home away from home. Our room even had a balcony that overlooked a little... more

This was my second visit to Yuhara Ryokan (first stayed in 1993). We arrived late in the evening from a long flight from Sydney but headed out next morning at 8am for breakfast and to revisit favourite spots in Kyoto. By 2.30pm I was exhausted and we returned to the Ryokan to collapse and take a nap ... only to... more
