A lovely Ryokan with the most helpful people. They have a great command of English too. Can I suggest that if arriving at Kyoto station, take a taxi and print of the map from the website. The taxi driver can follow it or ring the Ryokan for directions The taxi meter doesn't move (640 yen) its that close, and although... more
We spent five nights at the Shimizu and in our trip in Japan it was the only place where everyone could speak a fluent english. The ryokan is brand new and very well furnished. The location is perfect, five minutes walking from the extraordinary Kyoto station. In Kyoto you can buy a 1day-pass for 500 Yen (approximately 3 Euros) and... more
This was a great place to stay. The room we had was very clean and comfortable. The staff was helpful and the service was great for the price. The Ryokan was located near the giant railway station, and there were many shops around it. It was very convenient for us to stay. more
My wife and I spent 5 nights on “Ryokan Shimizu” in July 2008. We were with friends and Kyoto was our last stage in our Japan’s trip. The Shimizu is a really a lovely place to stay!!! It’s located only a 10min walk from the main JR station and 5 min walk from a a bus stop, but you must... more
My wife and I recently spent 5 days and 4 nights at the Ryokan shimizu in Kyoto. I have to say that I found the Ryokan to be just average. I'm not sure if it was my expectations were too high as a result of the other reviews on TA or that perhaps I was tired from travelling. Anyway these... more
Ryokan Shimuzu Inn is not recommened in our opinion. We are Yanks, and stayed in Kyoto in May 2008 at two places over 4 days. We go to the Kyoto area every couple of years. The Ryokan Shimuzu was nice enough...clean and relatively new, but it was very expensive compared to other Ryokans and hotels. NOT WORTH THE MONEY...... It... more
I am Japanese, married to an American citizen living in the Bay Area. Since it was the first time visit to Japan for my husband, I wanted him to experience the Japanese-style lodging. As we were planning to spend 4 nights in Kyoto, it was really important for us to find something nice without the high price tag. Ryokan Shimizu... more
What a lovely place. Very beautiful Ryokan right near Kyoto station. Hard to find if you rely on the map from tourist information however once we did find it, it was worth the effort. Lovely clean traditional en suite japanese rooms with a private hot bath downstairs as well and internet access. You can also hire bikes for the day... more
It was a really good place to stay. The staff is really friendly and they did everything they could to help us. It's really very near the Tokyo station, but it's a little difficult to find ( unless you know exactly were it is). It's a little far away from the sightseeing places of Kyoto, but since you have the... more
