This is a good place to stay for one night if you don't want to travel far to see the sunrise at Haleakala. It's about 40 minutes to the crater. If you book Vista Chalet #1 like we did, you will enjoy your stay. The lanai has gorgeous sweeping views of the Maui peninsula (not all rooms do, I think).... more

I decided to have my wedding ceremony on their garden terrace & since it's a small one, my husband and I decided to have the reception at their restaurant also. We also booked two rooms. Worst things happened couple weeks before our wedding. The Manager who used to take care of weddings, quit without even letting me know (as a... more

NO TV, NO PHONES, ON MAIN ROAD WITH TRAFFIC NOISE, beware. We are not picky, but when we paid over $200 a night (we were in-season, I think it was $250 actually), we expected the place to be quite nice. We stayed in four places in Maui (we were there for almost two weeks) and this was the absolute WORSE... more

Planning a visit to Hawaii from my computer in Japan, and having read the Fodor's guide (which incidentally I rate as "terrrible" [try lonely planet - much better]), we noted that the Kula Lodge was rated as a great place to stop for breakfast or lunch on an ascent or descent of the Haleakala mountain. So I looked up the... more

We really enjoyed our time at the Kula Lodge. We were in Chalet #1 which we discovered was way too much room for two people (it has a queen bed plus a loft with 2 twin beds) however the balcony and view were amazing! Unfortunately, they were not accommodating when we arrived early and asked to have our bags checked... more

Just for background, we stayed 6 nights at the Pineapple Inn Maui and decided to come to Upcountry for some hiking. All of our first choices were booked, so we took the room (booked two weeks in advance) at the Kula Lodge. Our chalet was one of two in a building located near the highway and adjacent to the parking... more

This is a great place to spend the night before going to Haleakala National Park. The location is great for going to the park. The staff at the lodge and restaurant were courteous and extremely helpful. We had one of the best dinners ever at the restaurant with a fantastic view looking down the mountain at Maui. more

On our way down from Haleakala my wife and I stopped here for a respte and early dinner. The place is really great, and a welcome relaxing spot after our hiuke in the crater. The dining interior is all very attractive wood. Any artisan would enjoy it. The view is great. with giant avocado trees to the left, lots of... more

We never stayed at the hotel so I can't comment on it. We did eat an early dinner after Halealaka. Overall a good (above average) dinner, with above average prices. One whole side of the restaurant is windows with a spectacular view, however, it was facing West and the setting sun was so intense I actually wore my sunglasses! Really,... more

A warning to you. If you want all those nice little amenities that you'll find in Grand Wailea or even some of those nicer hotels in Kihei or Kapalua, then don't stay here. The restaurant is also a bit on the expensive side. This place is for people looking to "get away from it all" including the TV. That said,... more
