We stayed for a week while taking the kids to the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, Wild Animal Park and Lego Land. While it's not exactly next door to any of the attractions, it's close enough to all of them to make it convenient. We stayed in a family suite, which included a small but complete kitchen, (with what appeared... more

Stayed here while in San Diego for a trade show. Although it's an older Best Western, the Lamplighter is very clean and well-kept, and the staff is excellent. Traveling with 3 small dogs, we appreciated being able to stay somewhere that didn't consign us to a smelly pet room. In fact, they were shampooing the carpets in the room we... more

I found out about the Lamplighter through TripAdvisor and thought how could this little motel be rated #2 in San Diego. I decided to give them a call and spoke to someone at 2:00 a.m. their time. To my surprise the night clerk was very pleasant, knowledgeable and gave me a fantastic AARP rate. In less than 10 minutes I... more

Yes i booked a night at this hotel on the basis of trip adviser reviews - it is difficult to fault the hotel - it does everything well - clean rooms - reasonably big for the price - very friendly staff - OK breakfast - BUT Location is a bit out of the way - and I think I was... more

We were in S.D. for Legoland and SeaWorld, and my criteria was for low rates but clean. After searching T.A. many times I kept coming back to Lamplighter. As for the hotel, the reviews are accurate. Very clean, comfortable and updated rooms. The price really couldn't be beat. The pool was pleasant - we swam and ate dinner out there... more

Lamplighter was exactly what I imagined an American inn to be like, the staff were friendly and helpful with places to eat, ample parking and a lovely pool to cool off in. Room was basic but clean - would recommend for travellers. more

I basically put all my eggs in one basket and booked based on trip advisor reviews. Hotel or should I say motel was VERY average. Nothing great nothing horrible. The Good - Clean rooms - Helpful/friendly staff - Cheap The Bad - Beds are quite uncomfortable - rooms are small - no amenities - very far from beach/good dining -... more

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your review. It is clearly displayed on TripAdvisor that our hotel class is 2-star (we’re a AAA 2-diamond property), with amenities and prices that reflect that rating. Our rate is a fraction of what you would pay to stay at the #1 or #3 hotels in San Diego. My staff is very good but...

Fabulous. This is a simple and no frills inn (look at the price). But it over delivers in every way. The room was immaculate. Impecibly clean. The staff very friendly and helpful. Choose a room near the back of the property which is delightfuly quiet. Review the location as it is not in the center of San Diego, but if... more

The staff are VERY accomodating and helpful. Any questions we had they had answers. The pool was very comfortable and we were able to take in our 7 month old baby. David was GREAT. We had questions about places to go to plan for a wedding and he was very helpful. The rooms are good size with a kitchen that... more

We just returned from our trip to San Diego. I booked this hotel because it had great reviews and also great prices. It is located a little ways away from the freeway, in a little older part of town. It was close to a couple grocery stores and eating places. While the location was the only thing that I didn't... more
