We spent two nights at the Collins House in July 2005, and we were very comfortable there. As previous travelers noted, it could use some cleaning. Although quaint, not worth $200 per night (after taxes are added). Room was clean, but house overall needs upkeep -- dirty windows, cobwebs on lights, some lights not working outside. We also enjoyed the Collins House and stayed in the Ithmus room as well. The house was decorated beautifully and was very comfortable. The only B&B in Madison we found that would accept our 2 yo daughter. Downstairs there was a large living room, large entry area, a sunporch (all of which were great for our daughter to play in).... more
The Collins House is a wonderful old house on Lake Mendota in Madison. We loved staying there. The house is decorated in Arts and Crafts style with wonderful original stenciling, stained glass, fancy ceilings, etc. The hostess was very welcoming, and the view of the lake is out of this world. Many downstairs rooms are open for guests to use.... more
