I have an 8 hour layover at Pearson Airport, Toronto around mid-August. I would like to go into the city while I'm there, and maybe go on a bus tour and then get dinner. I was wondering if anyone would have any advice about the best way to get from the airport to the city, and also if anyone could recommend a trip to do? Thanks.

Depending on where you are going TO, it may shorten that layover time. When you arrive YYZ, it will probably take you a good 1/2 hour to get out of there. If you are travelling to Europe, you need to be at the airport about 2-3 hours ahead of the flight to go through customs, etc. If you're travelling domestic, 90 minutes ahead will be fine.

There's a bus called the Airport Express; go to www.gtaa.ca, and click the travellers tab; it will take you to Airport Express, which is an airport to city bus service that can take you right into downtown Toronto. It will show you the time it takes to get downtown by that service. If you just hop a cab ($46 flat rate, determined by Toronto bylaws), that should take you about 25-30 minutes to downtown Toronto, depending on the time of day (more if during rush hours).

For a quick and fun tour around the city, consider the Toronto Hippo Tours:

8 hours is not a long time. Cut it down to 4 or 5 at the most after you clear customs and get back in time. then you need an hour at least to get back and forth to the city centre, that does not leave much time. I would really consider what you want to do

I think a bus tour and dinner might be cutting it sort of close because you have to assume it will take some time to get off the plane and board the plane as well.

I would recommend heading into downtown like Queen St. and doing a bit of dining and site seeing on foot in that area.

Best of luck!

Hi,

I'm in Toronto now, leaving tomorrow.

I am staying not too far from the airport. There are TTC buses that run from the airport into Toronto. For us, we had to take a bus then the underground/subway. A one ware fare on TTC transport is C$2.75 - and this was for buses, trams and the subway - basically all your connections until you hit your destination.

However, one thing I want to point out is to check out what time you arrive at the airport and what time your flight is, because if you hit rush hour on the roads, it can be quite bad.

We visited the Bata Museum, the Spadina Museum (both museums are good) and walked around town. The Spadina Museum is quite small though. If the weather is good, why don't you go up the CN tower?

Good Luck and Enjoy your stay!
