Hi looking for help!

My wife and I are visiting California in Oct this year staying at the Sheraton Park, Anaheim.

We have 1 spare day and wondering how realistic it would be to travel from our hotel to Newport beach by taxi or other some other mode of transport that still gives us the flexibility to come and go as we please. We are not hiring a car for this trip and don’t want to for just 1 day.

Q1 - According to the Sheraton website the hotel is 29km/18m from Newport but we are not sure how much this journey would cost or how long it would take by taxi?

Q2 – Are taxis safe?

Q3 – Can anyone suggest another way of making this journey (public transport? a Newport equivalent to the Anaheim ART Trolley which only goes as far as Garden Grove Boulevard?

Thanks everyone in advance for your replies!

Newport Beach is pretty much straight down Harbor Boulevard, so the distance is pretty accurate. Alas, it is a main city street, and by the time you take into the cost of starting the meter, the milage chaage, and the Wait charge (all those red lights), you are looking at about $50 to $60 plus tip on average one way, about a 30 to 40 minute trip.

Taxis in Orange County are well regulated and I would say as safe or safer than most cities. But of course, still keep your guard up, like anywhere else.

There is the Public Bus, the OCTA Route 43 goes up and down Harbor about every 15 minutes. Take it South bound to the end of the route, and transfer to the 71, which runs to Nwport Beach and Balboa Pier.

Cost is $3 for an all day pass per person (Just buy it one the first bus your board that day).

But you would want to bring a book, as you are looking at about 90 minutes each way including the transfer.

Hi,

It's more expensive than a bus but much less expensive than a taxi for two people to take the OC Beach Bus Tour. You can read about it at www.anaheimtourcompany.com.

Off and On Service to 3 different beaches - Huntington, Newport and Laguna. $43 for adults for all day and free pick up from your hotel.

Also, Coach USA offers the OC Experiences which goes to Balboa and a shopping center. It's around $55.

Hope that helps and happy travels!
