Anyone stayed at the "Ocean Hideway Studio" in Wailea |
Did anyone stay at the Private Residence "Ocean Hideway Studio" in Wailea? Thanks |
I've never stayed there, but I used to live down the street from this house. Its a good location, great views. It's technically not in Wailea though. It's Maui Meadows which is above Wailea. You're real close to Wailea, but there is a difference. Wailea is all manicured drives and gated residences with strict covenants telling the owners how to maintain their property. Maui Meadows is just a regular neighborhood. Also, I doubt these folks are permitted, so it's "buyer beware". They could get shut down if the county gets around to them. There are legal vacation homes out there, but you have to do some digging to make sure the house really is legal. To be legal they either have to have a permit, be in an area that is properly zoned (Maui Meadows is not properly zoned), or have gotten grandfathered when they changed the laws.

Hello, thank you for your reply. I was not aware of these legal matters as all I want is to spend a quite and nice time on the island and I don't mind being off an immediat touristic environment. So I just finished reading your long and detailled article from Feb 2007. To what extend it is the buyers obligation to check the legal permit? Is there a real risk to be kicked out while you are on holidays? Sorry but I am eally not familiar to these legal matters, but does one has to worry if say one has booked, paid and find out the owner have no permit for the place he is staying in?
