Let’s start with giving you may itinerary (Aug 24-29). So here goes.

Day 1 (Sunday) – arrive Seattle 2-3pm if all goes well at the border. Staying at the Quality Inn. If we can still get on one of the tours will probably do the Ride the Ducks.

Day 2 (Monday)

Moring – Pikes Place

Afternoon - ? (Ride the Ducks will go here if we can't fit it in on Sunday)

Late Afternoon/Early evening – Seattle Centre

Day 3 (Tuesday) – Check out and head to Woodland Park Zoo and then check in to the La Quinta in Lynnwood

Day 4 (Wednesday) – Shopping at Alderwood Mall for back to school clothes

Day 5 (Thursday) – check out early and head to Leavenworth (overnight)

Day 6 (Friday) – head home

Need some ideas what else to do on Day 2 afternoon. Basically just interested in touristy stuff in the downtown area (haven't done that in about 25 years). How does the aquarium compare to the one in Vancouver? People that will be travelling will be myself (39), my daughter (8) and my mom (76). So I need some ideas that we all might enjoy. There are no mobility issues with my mom actually she is probably more mobile than I am. :)

Any and all ideas are greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lori

For Day 2, perhaps the aquarium, check out Ye Ole Curiosity Shop (your daughter will love), walk along the water to the Olympic Sculpture Park or hop on a ferry to Bainbridge island, walk to Main Street, have lunch, check out the shops.

I'd spend time at:

Seattle Art Museum (recently expanded)

Seattle Central Library (for the architecture)

Olympic Sculpture Park

Seattle Asian Art Museum at Volunteer Park

Personally, I'd skip the Pike's Place Market and its crowds. It seems like every third stall has the same merchandise: flowers, specialty honey, jewelry, flowers, specialty honey, jewelry...

Oh no Bob! I love the market - crowds included! It's fresh, vibrant, ever-changing. As one of the oldest public markets, it's a gem. When traveling with children, I like to give them a couple dollars to taste and try, meet the vendors and interact. to this day my older teens always want a "couple bucks" for the mini-donuts and honey sticks.

I wouldn't miss the market.

Bob, you did. :)

I vote for Pike Place Market.

Consider shopping at the discount mall, just off I-5, west of and adjacent to, the freeway. Much better than most. Is it called Seattle Outlets? Next to the Tulalip Casino complex.

Seattle Aquarium: long controversy about the Vancouver and Seattle venues; I say it's worth a visit and it's along the waterfront where you will be anyway.

Consider shopping at Alderwood Mall and the outlet mall as you come south, then you won't have to backtrack.

From Leavenworth you might take Route 20 through the North Cascades National Park; beautiful.

Seattle Premium Outlets in Marysville.

www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp…

One advantage to Lynnwood/Alderwood mall area is that it seems like every possible retail shop is there - miles and miles of strip malls! In addition to the mall, you will find name brand stores such as Target, Fred Meyer, Kohl's, Marshall's , Ross Dress for Less, Sports Authority, REI, Costco, etc, etc...

Please, please, please lose the S! It's Pike Place Market, Nordstrom, Boeing - none of them are plural.

This is the kind of stuff that makes the locals cranky.
