Small, but clean

The rooms are tiny but very clean! And there are no windows, so if you’re claustophobic, I wouldn’t recommend it. However, for our purposes it was fine - sleep. The rest of the time we were out exploring Old San Juan - this place is right in the middle of everything. Walking distance to several wonderful restaurants, sightseeing attractions, and shopping - lots of shopping. If you’re not too picky and don’t need luxuries like a bathtub (only a stall shower), this place would be perfect.

The Newyorican Cafe has great Latin Jazz on Friday & Saturday nights. Only a four block walk from the hotel, very safe.

Not extravagant but right for me

This hotel was not one of those gigantic expensive hotels but it was perfect for me. Usually you get what you pay for but this hotel was above my expectations

Great Location, Nice Lodgings

Located on the Plaza de Armas in the heart of Old San Juan, it would be hard to find a better location. The rooms are pretty typical; well cleaned. The only drawback to this hotel is that most of the rooms appear to not have windows. Service was good though.

Set your own alarm clock

Overall I was satisfied with hotel room cleanliness and comfort. Was disappointed, when I requested a wake up call and did not receive it. Nor did anyone apologize for the inconvenience.

The Howard Johnson in Old San Juan has a great location. The rooms are very nice and clean, in room safe. The staff at the desk is very helpful in guiding visitors to easy close by restaurants and tourist attractions. I have stayed here on two trips and would choose this for a third time.

If you need to connect with daytours going to the rainforest do it out of the nearby Sheraton hotel.

Old building in an historical area.

The building is quite old, about 200-years old. Therefore, it does not have the ameninities found in luxury hotels. However, it has wireless internet an average service. Rooms are OK, but glamorous. Hotel locations is within an historical landmark, the Old San Juan, a city over 400-years old. The area is spaniard colonial with historical buildings and locations. There are several good restaurants and nice bars.

pleasant hotel at plaza de armas

clean hotel w/friendly and helpful staff. nice location if you are going to san juan to see the history of the city. kinda far from any real nice beaches. rooms were a bit on the small side and had no windows to see outside. if you rent a car, parking can be kinda tricky and often there is alot of traffic. but there are some parking garages within walking distance that aren’t too pricey to park overnight.

Great place to stay for the price

The room was small but comfortable - the breakfast was very good - We stayed off the main lobby and beggers came in at 3 a.m. screaming and wanting water then a dog was barking in the lobby-however, we just turned on the fan for the air conditioner and couldn’t hear them. Overall, a great place to stay for the price.

This is a no frills hotel, but it is charming and in a very convenient location. A continental breakfast is offered and the staff is helpful and friendly.

Centrally located, friendly staff

I stayed here before and after a cruise in March 2008. The hotel is right in the heart of OSJ, within walking distance of good restaurants and the OSJ pier. I had rooms on the front side of the hotel which proved to be a little noisy with traffic from the street but having been to PR many times I expected that and brought foam earplugs. Slept like a baby. There is a taxi stand across the street from the hotel. It was no problem jumping in a cab and heading to the Pan American pier to meet my ship the next day. For the price, location, and convenience, I recommend HoJo Plaza de Armas. I’m already looking at reservations here for my next cruise in June!

I’m not a fan of continental breakfast. If you want a real puertorican breakfast, walk across the plaza and down the street to La Bombonera. Really excellent food and reasonable prices. If you are interested in flamenco, you can catch a show at La Barrachina with dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.

Simple & Clean

The staff were very helpful. Continental breakfast offered in a nice setting. Don’t plan to find lots on television, but that’s not why you’re in PR, right? High-speed internet service worked just fine with our laptop. Good place to stay in Old San Juan.

For good authentic Puerto Rican cooking at reasonable prices walk north up calle San Jose to calle Sol, go right. Walk several blocks to El Jibarto. Great food!!!!

Historic Perspective

The hotel is right in the middle of Old San Juan. It is walking distance from historic sights, lots of restaurants and lots of night life. Rooms are smaller than the big upscale hotels but were quite comfortable. The staff was great and very helpful. The only problem we encountered was running out of hot water in the shower. This is something they are working on. It is a great location and I would return again.

Do walk the "wall" at night and during the day. It is great.
