Fantastic Hotel

I stayed at the W on business for a short 3-day visit - just 2 blocks from the convention center, so the location was ideal for me. The staff were exceedingly courteous and helpful - even gave me an umbrella for free when it was raining. The room has all mod-cons, the bathroom was bigger than some hotel rooms I have had in the past. No in-room coffee though, which was a shame. The bar was very funky and wines and martinis were all good. I ate twice at the "Otto" restaurant - service was great both times, one meal was great (good tuna tartare and rib-eye that was cooked to perfection), the second quite poor (tempura that was overcooked and super-oily, and a filet-mignon that was medium-well to well when I asked for rare) - not what I expect for the price. Overall, it is a great hotel, I very much enjoyed my stay and would recommend this to other travellers.

Montreal

A good hotel for a short visit to Montreal. Noisy on the weekend so try to get a room NOT overlooking the interior (bar below and you can hear the noise). Otherwise it was fine. Not everything worked and the ability to get things fixed was ify.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Far from the gay village.

Great hotel in great location

Hotel is beautiful and very trendy. Be warned that the shower is glass and can be seen from the bedroom very easily. This is BY DESIGN.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

It may not be right in "old Montreal", but you will want to spend some time downtown as well, and then you’ll realise that it’s a great spot between both. Subway is just across the road too.

Great hotel and location

I would highly recommend the W Montreal - very clean, hotel staff was fantastic and the location is very close to Vieux Montreal and within walking distance to most attractions.

Very Impressed

As I walked in I was amazed at the entrance it feels like you are walking into a water fall. The hotel is amazing and while the town offers plenty of entertainment and partying including under bar at the W, the W makes sure the party stays off the floors of the actual guest rooms.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

Start early because they close early but they do offer after hours.

Dark and Damp

First time staying at a W (after patronizing many of their hotel bars) and was extremely disappointed. The rooms were very dark. Even with all the lamps on it was hard to see. My room faced another building which blocked all sunlight and contributed to the darkness. To make matters worse, the neighboring building was only 20 feet away and was an office building that was filled with people staring at my room during the day. I knew before I booked that the bathroom was not separated from the regular room, but I didn’t realize that meant that everything in the regular room stayed damp because there was no ventilation (windows didn’t open) and no sunlight in the room. Finally, I wasn’t very impressed with the hotel bars as they were mostly empty each night of my weekend stay. On the plus side, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Though the concierge did make one bad recommendation/reservation for us, which he should have told us to steer clear of. Overall, not going to stay here again and would not recommend it for anyone else.

Above and beyond

The entire experience for us at the W Montreal was spectacular. The place is sleek and modern with a very cool vibe. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They suggested and made reservations for us at two restaurants that turned out to be outstanding. The bathroom was beautiful and both shower and soaking tub (both large enough for two) were perfect! WOW!

Traveler's tip on dining

Don’t miss: L’Express- traditional bistro- simple, clean, very Frence, just perfect. Liverpool House- phenomenal market fare restaurant- amazingly friendly staff and the best local, seasonal food prepared simply and perfectly.

Jazz Fest and the W

the hotel is very nice and modern. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was cleaned and very peaceful. The shower is a big asset. Have stayed here before and will continue to stay there on my visits to Montreal. I usually am there around Jazz Fest timeframe. AWESOME!

Traveler's tip on local attractions

You are within walking distance to shopping, Night life, restaurants, Old Town Montreal and etc. As you walk up the hill from the hotel there is a little cafe on your right that serves the best breakfast and is inexpensive.

The Big W

I really enjoyed my time @ W Montreal. I arrived 3 hours early for check in and they made me feel like a long lost brother. Early check in? No problem! The room, though lacking a view (facing out into the atrium) turned out to work well for me as it was a quieter room. The room was very well appointed and clean with quality products. Even if I didn’t stay here it’s nice to visit their lounge for a drink or two. Bartini is highly recommended. Very friendly, good looking staff (IMO) thoughout the establishment. Will seriously consider a visit back to W next time I’m in Montreal. In the meantime, I’ll recommend it to others, esp. if they want to splurge for a goof time!

Traveler's tip on nightlife

While Montreal has a plethora of great bars, I suggest starting out at Bartini or the Plateau Lounge inside W. Very chill and relaxed.

Very Impressed!, Cleanliness a problem

The only issue I had with the W Montreal was that on two occassions I had received dirty sheets. I only stayed there two nights and both times my sheets my sheets were changed they had yellow/orange spots on them. I didn’t call anybody to get new ones because it was always late when I finally noticed and I was tired. Plus, there were sheets underneath that I was able to use. Other than that, the hotel was beautiful and the service was outstanding. Everybody was very friendly and welcoming. Will recommend this hotel to all.

Welcome to the dark side

Before deciding on a hotel I read a lot of the reviews. I decided on the W based on that. The hotel is very dark. Coming from sunny LA to a gloomy Montreal and staying in a dark hotel didn’t work for me. The art deco motif is nice for a 2nd rate hotel in LA. The bed was comfortable, but the room was also very dark. It was a good thing that I brought a flashlight to look for things. The carpets and the room were dusty. How can you clean in the dark? When I called Expedia to try to change hotels, they called the hotel manager who offered me an upgrade. When I asked the manager that I wanted to see the room first, she said that it is not currently available and if I pack, they’ll move my suite case to the new room when I get back that night. I was short on time and decided to just leave. I can see if you are not used to nice hotels and you are young (I mean 20’s) how this hotel might appeal to you, but I wasn’t even able to see the romantic appeal with a special someone in the room. I need more for that kind of money.

Traveler's tip

The orchids and flowers in the lobby were the highlights of the hotel1

Way overrated and overpriced

Yes, W hotels are world-renowned for their chicness and modern design. That’s where it ends though. The people who work there are very fake and overly cheerful to nauseum. I found a rubber band in my halibut at the Wunderbar. They charge for EVERYTHING from using their INTERNET!!, to a cup of coffee or a measly muffin at breakfast, to charging $50 to use their valet parking service. Absolutley ridiculous and extrememly uncomfortable in terms of comings and goings in and out of the hotel and the room. Would not recommend. Pretty to look at during a quick drink at the bar, but definitely NOT a place to call home while away from home.

Traveler's tip on dining

Food is sub-par here. Not worth the $200-$300 to spend for two people.

W Montreal - Simply Wonderful!

From the moment you step into this property you are greeted with smiles and kindness. The beautiful lobby is impressive and the staff makes sure that you are completely satisfied. Our room was exactly what we had hoped for when one selects a W Hotel...modern, hip, clean and funky. The amenities are all from Bliss Spa, great bedding, towels, lighting, mini bar offerings, etc. The hotel has two bars that are pretty popular towards the middle of the week and into the weekend. Guests should definitely stop in for a drink and take in the cool vibe. Our musical tastes were completely in-line with the hotel’s and we really loved the trip hop sort of vibe that carried throughout the hotel. This hotel is also perfectly located right across the street from a Metro stop on a line that will take you to all of the must-see spots in Montreal. In Montreal...W stands for Wonderful!
