In Need of TLC

As a whole, we’re not complaining. The hotel has been around for a long time, part of Maui’s south shore landmarks in Kihei. It comes with no frills, and feels like old Hawaii compared to newer resorts down the road. The room key was metal, not plastic, for the dead bolt and door knob lock. If you don’t care about the room and amenities, its a nice place to stay, otherwise go down the road.

Aston Maui Lu

I would never do it again... There are better spot’s to stay for the same price..... I travel all the time and pretty open minded.... All the neg. reviews were right..... At least I gave it a chance and it failed in my eyes... I think camping would have been cleaner....

Kinda dusty and old

This hotel/resort was under construction during our stay. Our room felt moldy and dusty. The shower was really tiny and the tiles were loose and dirty. The only nice thing of about this place was the bed. Nothing else worth mentioning.

We will definitely return!

Though the hotel could use some maintenance and updating, it was very comfortable, the staff was excellent, and the price was unbeatable. Oceanfront is definitely oceanfront and the view was amazing. Our room actually had 2 refrigerators and the a/c was so nice and cool!

Kihei the old way

The Aston Maui Lu is a traditional old style resort with few amenities. There is no internet access except in the office for $0.10 a minute. Complimentary coffee was only provided on the first night and it was difficult to get additional towels. Other wise our stay was 30 feet from the beach on private cove. Barbecues were available for use by the guest on their lanai’s, parking was difficult. The hotel appears to be upgrading some rooms. Location is convenient for local access to all parts of the island and since my vacation philosophy is I only need a room for sleeping our accomodations were adequate and reasonable.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

This site is very close to everything you’d want to do on Maui. an easy drive back to the airport for helicopter tours, close to harbor for boating and snorkling trips. An easy drive to Lahaina and beyond.

Exceeded Expectations

We stayed in the partial ocean view rooms and listened to the waves crash all night. It was heaven. Sure its not fancy but the Maui Lu is clean, the staff go above and beyond, and the feel is pure Aloha.

Very pleasantly surprised

Having just come from 7 days at the Marriot Ocean Club Resort we weren’t expecting much at the Maui Lu. However, the room (515), overlooking the ocean, was wonderful. The views from the table by the picture window, the views out the glass doors and balcony (small but sufficient) and from the loft upstairs with the bed were magnificant. The louvered windows allowed the natural breeze to flow through the room (& A/C if you want it). Maui Lu is experiencing Maui as it should be...quietly & in its natural beauty.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Highly recommend going to the Eskimo Candy Deli, about 5 minutes from the Maui Lu. Don’t go by the name...delicious food at a fantastic price. It is not fancy, only about three tables (better for carry out) but oh so good & inexpensive!

Definitely a diamond in the ruff!!

This hotel is more like an upscale Motel 6. But if you’re anything like me, and you’ll only be in your room to shower and sleep, this is the place to stay. The employees were very courteous and hospitable. We stayed in an Ocean View room, and it was worth the couple extra bucks! There’s nothing more amazing than to be able to fall asleep with the waves crashing jut a few feet away. Sure, the room had a few issues... like the patio door wouldn’t close very well, and housekeeping wouldn’t clean your room until late afternoon. But if you can look past that, you can save some major money. I will definitely stay at this Hotel again.

This hotel is located in Kihei and every activity that we planned was about 45 min away, but the drive was amazing every time. This town was pure locals, hardly any tourists. By staying in Kihei, not only did we save money, but we truly got a chance to experience the beautiful lives that the locals lead. If you stay in Kihei, you must go and try the Hawaiian Shave Ice at the Local Boyz Shop!! It is FANTASTIC!!

Make sure you get a Ocean Front room.

I had booked an Ocean Front room and I have to say it had the most amazing view ever. I’d suggest a second floor Ocean front room (since they come with a balcony). On the down side, because these rooms are so close to the beach (approx 10 yards) you get to "enjoy" quite a few critters.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you decide to take the Road To Hana, I’d suggest you wake up early and take the road on you own. The local tours are disappointing and rush through to Hana. There are so many nice places to stop on the side of the road, but unfortunately tour buses skip most of them.

True feeling of Ohana

This is a true hawaiian stay! The beauty of the entire grounds is breath taking not to mention the lovely little private beach! Talk about a place to go and forget about your stress-WOW. There are so many amenities a pool, DIYS laundry, volleyball,BBQ & picnic area, mini frig in room, they also have all the equipment you,ll need to enjoy these activities"for free" including board games for all ages. However, I was most impressed at the fact they have included an onsite church! So I hope your blessed and get to stay at the Aston Maui Lu Resort and enjoy your stay as much as my whole family did.We are looking forward to our next stay!

Since there are mini frig’s in each room you can save a few bucks and enjoy more free time with the family and for yourself by purchasing a few groceries which can conveniently be picked up just 5 minutes away! Also located at the same mini plaza you"ll find a variation of stores for anything forgotten. Check it out you can’t go wrong.

A bit run-down

Nice location, friendly service, nice room. But a bit run-down. Fridge door does not close properly, lever of shower hangs on loosely, drawers have a bad smell.

Kinda gross, but you really need to get past that.

Our room was "ocean view". True we were very close to the ocean, but the other half of our view was a fairly busy road. The traffic tended to drown out the sound of the waves. The carpet and bathtub were stained and in desperate need of replacement, but generally clean. You really just need to look past all that. It’s a great location and super affordable. Plus it has the only pool shaped like the island of Maui (though it too needs some TLC) How much time are you really going to spend in there anyway? The Maui Lu will hold a tender place in my heart forever. (My fiance proposed in that room:)

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Request the second floor of the 400 building. They have the best view.

Will stay here again.

It is what it is. This place was quiet & a decent place to stay. Right aross from the beach. Good if you are just looking for a place to sleep. The grounds were pretty & the staff was friendly. I would stay here again.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Just make sure you rent a car & take the Hana Highway. It is worth the drive!

Bad place to stay

Just want everyone to know this is NOT a good place to stay. We had to contend with rude staff,Roachs in room (had to request TWICE for the room to be sprayed for bugs). No coffee left in rooms, you have to buy "extra" bags of coffee at $1.00 per bag (for 3 cups of coffee, I don’t think so). Rooms were not cleaned well at all and beds leave a lot to be desired. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!

Not impressed

It was a really old fashioned hotel. I felt like I was staying at someone’s apartment who I didn’t know. The toilets and shower was stained and was very afraid to sleep in the bed. Not to mention there were two baby cockroaches in the room.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

I felt that the price of this hotel was not worth the stay at all. You might as well have spent a few hundred dollars more to stay the the Wailea or something and at least feel comfortatble.

Will Stay Again!

Our hotel room was quiet, clean, had towels, shampoo, and soap, and there was coffee every a.m. at the front desk. The staff was friendly, and there was a very nice, clean pool. It’s an older hotel, by no means luxurious, but right on the beach and we had a great time. Good value.

Traveler's tip on recreational activities

Take the boat from the Maui Prince Hotel, just south of Kihei, if you want to snorkel in Molokini. It’s the shortest ride to Molokini, so you spend more time snorkeling.

Not Impressed

The people there were ok, but not overly welcoming to help. We requested a room with a King bed because it was our honeymoon and our trip was booked extremely in advance. They put us into a two queen bed room. They did offer to switch rooms for a large $$$ amount more. Our room we ended up in at the patio door flooded when it rained the 1st night and water came through the ceiling too. The hotel didnt want to move us or reimburse for any of the trouble. I would have thought they would have wanted to do something. The hotel is in a good location though. If you are going to be busy and not be at your hotel, but to only sleep it would be ok.

Enjoyed our stay at the Maui Lu

Proximity to the ocean was a big factor. We had the ocean front rooms - which I would recommend. This hotel was reasonably priced, and a good value for the money in my opinion. If you want fancy, and can spend $1,000.00 per night, go to the Grand Wailea or Four Seasons. If you want to relax and enjoy your own semi-private beach and be right on the water, stay at the Maui Lu. It is not fancy, not high-priced, but it is comfortable if you don’t mind staying in a place that is a little older. The room was cleaned everyday, and the sheets and towels were fresh each day. The carpet in our room was a little bit dingy, but not torn or worn out. Some areas could have used a little freshening or paint, but everything worked. My wife and I would definitely stay here again.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

If you like to snorkle, take the trip to Molekini. If you like horses, go to the Mendez Ranch.

No Frills...but what views and sunsets...we’ll be back...

The hotel is one of the older hotels on Maui. If you’re looking for something with all the bells and whistles...this isn’t for you. If you’re looking for down-to-earth and something that won’t break the bank...this is it. This was our second stay, we enjoyed it just as much if not more than our first visit...we loved the view of ocean and the whales. It does need some improvements but on the whole...we wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Want to be central to a lot of activities...this is it. Driving a short distance is easier, than driving a long distance...and the highway was being improved for easier access to a lot of places.

very disappointed

Having stayed at a previous Resortquest property we expected similar quality. A disappointing end to the holiday. We booked over the phone and were not warned of the poorly maintained, old property, timber had fallen from outside of lift well and stayed where it had landed, bathroom basin mouldy, parts of the landing roped off with plastic I sympathise with the staff as they must have to deal with many complaints. Dont stay here. Drains up the road send unsavoury waters into the sea here and so swimming is not advised (Maui revealed) We usually research well but this time didnt have access to internet easily. (the bed was comfortable)

Traveler's tip on dining

Both the Vietnamese and thai restaurants nearby were delicious and good value.

Shabby chic

Great location right on the beach, with its own private beach. But the room was quite "shopworn", especially the bathroom. This place needs an overhaul. Still, the people are super nice and do their best to help with what you need.
