wish the toilet flushed and lites worked

Had to manually flush toilet with each use and some of the lighting was not functional . But all and all the room was fine for its intended use.

I love this place

I’ve stayed here a few times and I love it. It’s landscaped beautifully and the staff are really nice. And you can’t beat the location. The hotel is on St. Charles and the street car stops right in front of the hotel. It’s just a few minutes to the French Quarter (Canal St) or to South Carrolton. I really do love this place.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is a great Japanese Sushi/Hibachi place down the road and VooDoo BBQ is awesome. You’re also right next to a Wendy’s and a Popeyes.

Wonderful place to stay.

We loved the hotel. Although the mattress was soft the beauty of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff made up for the mattress. The staff went out of their way to accomodate us. The hotel is so convenient on St. Charles as the streetcar picks you up right in front of the hotel. The hotel’s history is fascinating also with the old buildings that were moved in and converted. We would definitely stay there again.

Traveler's tip

Although streetcars are up and running don’t rely on them 100%. Several times we waiting on the corner of St. Charles and Canal Street for longer than 30 minutes waiting on a car. Although you can hardly beat a $5 a day pass we finally had to break down at midnight one night and get a taxi along with dozens of people. Taxi service was great and very reasonable.

Don’t stay here!

Upon my arrival, the first thing I saw when I entered was a group of about 6 cleaning staff passing around a large bottle of hard liquor straight out of the bottle in the hotel lobby! The lobby was small but neatly kept, however the room door on my particular room was difficult to open. The hotel is clearly an older hotel in various states of disrepair. It took the room about 3 hours to cool off using the window air conditioning unit, which was not left on prior to my arrival (it was July in New Orleans after all). The staff was nice enough. I stayed only one night, but that was enough!

Not located in a place I would feel safe walking down the street at night. Using a cab is recommended.

Can’t wait to go back!

Check-in was wonderful, the lady was very polite and helpful. Our room had a pool view, which was very nice. The room was clean. They also had free parking which was excellent! All in all the stay was wonderful, I would definitely stay there again.

Good overall

It took the a/c quite a while to cool the room. Once it finally cooled though, things were fine. The staff were mostly polite some extremely indifferent. The hotel itself was great, nice courtyard, nice rooms, great little continental breakfast, and great location--right in front of the St. Charles Streetcar line. We took the streetcar to the quarter every day and in the opposite direction to the garden district. Good location.

Traveler's tip

You can day passes for public transportation at the hotel’s front desk for $5. The pass is valid on all bus and streetcar lines. It’s nice not to have to fiddle to make exact change and if you do quite a bit of moving about, it’s a good deal.

Outstanding Across the Board

I recently stayed at the Maison St. Charles while spending a long weekend visiting relatives in New Orleans and travelling around Southern Louisiana. I found the hotel to be very clean, neat and staffed with very courteous, helpful and knowledgeable personnel. I have a bad back and while the beds weren’t exactly firm enough for my taste, I was well able to sleep and get a good comfortable night’s rest. The hotel is conveniently located in downtown New Orleans and is minutes from all points of interest; whether you walk, drive or take the reasonably priced St. Charles Ave. trolley, which stops in front of the hotel approx. every 15 minutes. Due to limited / difficult parking in Downtown New Orleans, for excursions local to the hotel I highly recommend walking or taking the trolley over driving and if you’re going out of the downtown area, the highway is only a couple of blocks away with very easy on/off access. A word of common-sense warning if you’re driving on a weekday, don’t drive anywhere during morning or evening rush-hour as a quick 10 min. trip can easily turn into an hour on the streets or highways so plan accordingly. Over all, for a balanced package of price, convenience and comfort, the Maison St. Charles hotel is my first recommendation.

Traveler's tip

Great dining of almost any type is nearby within easy walking distance. Wendys is next door, Emerils Delmonico (make a reservation) is across the street and several others are within 2 to 5 blocks walk; or take a short trolley ride for an excellent Crawfish Etouffe dinner in the French Quarter, which also has a multitude of great shops for anything from trinkets and souvenirs to antiques, as well as many other great sightseeing points and many street vendors, performers and artists.

Maison St. Charles Quality Inn & Suites has Cockroaches

I recently went to New Orleans to apply for a job interview and business trip. The staff was friendly and helpful but the cockroaches in my room were a big surprise. Can you imagine turning off the lights at 2 am and then being surrounded by Cockroaches? In the dark? Anyway, I turned off my lights and then discovered that I had cockroaches as neighbors including one or two that were currently crawling on me. I trapped a cockroach in the room safe as proof and called the desk staff. The staff told me to call back in the morning though they agreed to leave a note for the manager. I kept the lights on and waited till morning. The morning staff wanted me to stay in the room and return after they sprayed for bugs. I disagreed and wanted another room rather than knowlingly risk inhaling bug spray or perchance seeing dying cockroaches. I was told to come back around 3 pm to see if they could switch rooms. I came back and repeated my request for another room and was given a free upgrade to a small suite for my last night. This time the clerk seemed to understand that my experiences with cockroaches had been minimal to this point in life and I wanted to keep it that way. Yes,cockroaches are common in the South but they were not appreciated in my hotel room when I had to prepare for an important job interview.

Very nice! Close to everything and great location!

We enjoyed our stay very much. This hotel is very close to just about everything you could possibly want to do. The streetcar picks up right in front, so it convenient. I can’t say one thing about this property that would make it not an A#1 experience!

Traveler's tip on dining

There is a quaint little 24 hour restaurant a block down the street that serves up some great food (as if almost anything you could get in NOLA wouldn’t be great).

Pleasantly surprised

We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Nice continental breakfast. We enjoyed the pool. We were visiting out daughter at Loyola University and the location was perfectly located between the college and the sights we wanted to see.

New Orleans

The location of the hotel is convient to both the central business district, garden district and the French Quarter. The hotel is quaint and is comprised of several buildings on their "campus". Frontdesk and housekeeping staff were very pleasant. Staff working on the complementary breakfast were rude and there was no flexibility with their serving times. On the weekend, at the moment it was scheduled to close, all food and beverages had been taken in, lights were turned off on guests and the doors were locked, which made it difficult to exit the dining room.

This was our 2nd time there. it is very clean and convenient, and is only a few minutes away from both the French Quarter and Garden District via streetcar. Nice continental breakfast every morning. Helpful and friendly staff. We will definitely stay there again.

Decent location with good breakfast

Good location for French quarter, Garden District, and all in between. Quaint courtyards with nice pool. A good deal for the price. Fairly healthy breakfast with a lot of variety. The bar is a little sad now that they don’t have any games, billiards, or chess.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

If you stay in this hotel, I suggest going to Lucky’s bar about 2 blocks away for a drink or two. Very humble, easy going, and cool bartenders.

Great Place for the money

I really enjoyed the hotel. My first room was small, but really true to the period of the old building. Problem was, it was in very poor condition. The changed me to a more modern standard room and it was fine. The orginal room was part of a very old home. I hope to get oneof those next time in better condition.

A Wet Week

Hotel appears to be still under renovation in certain areas, post-Katrina. Coupled with poor local weather during the stay, this may have adversely affected my overall impression. Although I would recommend this as a place to stay, I might suggest waiting until the second half of 2008 to allow ongoing work in the region to be completed.

Convenient and reasonable

On second night of my stay, some type of rodent gnawing inside the walls drove me to request another room. This was annoying, but the hotel staff accomodated me.
