I liked this hotel.
The International House is advertised as a boutique hotel that offers personal amenities that other larger hotel chains do not, and I feel that this hotel delivers on that claim. It is a clean and well run facility. The staff is helpful and friendly. My room was comfortable and spacious. The entrance to the hotel is not especially conspicuous and is easy to miss on the first approach on Camp St. Parking is valet only and the valet service is excellent. The workout facility is decent. The hotel restaurant was under construction during my stay. There is no gift shop and you must request ice and coffee via room service. Call me pedestrian, but I prefer to get my own ice or coffee. The hotel bar was busy and appears to attract young professionals who work downtown. OK but not my thing.
Traveler's tip for business travelers
The hotel is a few blocks away from Canal Street. I did not find many restaurants or shops in the immediate vicinity. Bourbon St. is on the other side of Canal St.

I was impressed.
A recent trip to New Orleans was very entertaining and enjoyable! What made things better is where I was sleeping for 3 nights, the International Hotel. Besides being only around 2 blocks away from the French Quarter which was easy walking, I loved the look and the feel of the hotel. We checked-in at night and upon walking in I thought the lobby had a "nightclub" feel to it. The lights were set low and everything was lit with candles. They had a bar/lounge that had a very trendy feel to it. I felt comfortable right away and enjoyed the quickness of the front desk as far as getting the room. The room itself was just right for me and my gf. One bedroom and standing shower. The room was clean as expected and rather comfortable. I liked the standing shower due to it being very large (could easily fit 3 people in it) and again a very trendy feel to it. I drank at the lounge they had set up and it was a very comfortable experience. The drinks were expensive but so was the rest of N.O. The only catch to this hotel was the parking. Its not included with your booking arrangements via expedia so expect to pay $30.00 a night. They have valet so you dont have to worry about finding your own spot but its just a little price they tac on because is not good in this area. Then again, where is there good parking in any urban downtown area that dont charge a handful and parking is scarce.
Traveler's tip on local attractions
The french quarter is what the strip is in Las Vegas. Lots of entertainment! During the day we walked and shopped which they have plenty of shops to go to into. Whether you want antiques or just souvenirs, its all within walking distance. Check out Pat O Briens bar and grill, they have the infamous "Hurriance" drinks which are very tasty!

Restful and Unique
Helpful staff, Very cool decor, Enjoyed the atmosphere in the Bar, an easy walk to the quarter without the noise of staying in the quarter. We will return to this Hotel. The only downside was the restaurant was being remodeled but with so many nearby to choose from, there was no problem....
Traveler's tip on dining
Menas Palace - a local place for breakfast and lunch -not open for dinner, 3 blocks from hotel---try the Shrimp Remoulande with deep fried tomatos....Yum.

Quiet Hotel but fun
We enjoyed the International Hotel immensely. The room was a little small but we were so busy we were not in the room all that much. Room was well appointed and clean, good amenities. Staff helpful and pleasant, could have been better at giving us info about New Orleans, had to ask a lot of questions to get info. Great coffee in AM. We enjoyed the bar, great atmosphere. We would stay there again with no qualms and will recommend it to others, great location, only 1 1/2 blocks from Canal Street and the French Quarter,

Beautiful hotel
This was wonderful choice. The hotel is gorgeous, the staff very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone. It is a short walk from the French Quarter and near every convience. The only complaint is poor lighting in the bathrooms but with the enormous shower you dont really notice.

Great Deal!
We had a wonderful experience at the International House hotel! The hotel was very helpful and accomodating, even allowing us to check in early. The hotel and room decorations are very modern and chic. The hotel location is great as well as its only a couple of blocks from the Riverwalk & aquarium area. I highly recommend this hotel, especially at the low rate its offered at!

Loved it and would go back
Its funny because the reviews I read really did help...some of the grips like no fitted sheets, expensive parking, dark hotel, and small rooms are all true, but it doesnt make the stay there terrible. It was really nice...very quiet! I felt like we were the only ones there even though the lounge was usually busy. There was great service too! I would recommend this hotel and if I ever go back to New Orleans, Ill be staying again.

Enjoyable, but wish for a pool
Visited the International House Hotel in July, 2008. July does not bring pleasant weather to New Orleans and a pool would have been appreciated. It would have been nice to escape the heat with a swim rather than going back to the room for the comforts of air conditioning. The hotel was gorgeous and although the restaurant was under renovations, room service was available and the Hotel had a guide to local restaurants that would deliver to your room, which was diplayed on the desk.
Traveler's tip on dining
Go to the Chartre House restaurant on Toulouse and Chartre (about 5 block straight down from hotel in the French Quarter). It has great service, friendly staff, and great drinks. Most enjoyable was the bloody mary, and the greek salad.

Enjoyed our Stay
Nice boutique hotel walking distance to Bourbon Street and River Walk. Small enough that the staff was very responsive (e.g. baggage and car service). Restaurant adjacent to hotel will be completed late summer 2008 and will be a nice addition. Recommended stay....

Excellent hotel
Hotel lobby was very warm and inviting. The room was exceptionally clean. Although slightly small, our room was very comfortable. We were on floor 8 facing the street. Friends of ours stayed on an inside room, which was much smaller. Wi-Fi was superb in our room and lobby. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Simple, yet nice continental breakfast.

The hotel service was great!
The concierge printed my boarding pass, was helpful in recommending tours and restaurants, and even loaned me an umbrella when it started to rain. Only con, it was a dark hotel. I did find that you can make the bathroom a bit brighter by using the slider on the lightswitch (the rightside) It is tiny, so its easily missed.

Rooms could be cleaner
Overall, a very good experience. Great location if you dont want to be in the middle of the Quarter, but want easy access to it, the casino and the street car line. Rooms could be cleaner and the hall lighting improved. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Very good price/value.

Very clean and quiet. Would stay here again.
This hotel was very nice. The employees were really helpful with anything that we needed. The room was a good size with a bathroom that was equal size to the room. Its in the perfect spot. Its only two blocks from the French Quarter and only three blocks from the riverwalk. This hotel is far enough from the excitement for you to get a good nights rest, but close enough to be amongst the excitement within a couple of minutes. One thing that you are not told is that you will have to pay to park. This is not just this particular hotel, its all of them. Parking is valet for $30.00/night or garage self parking for $25.00/night. This is just a general heads up for New Orleans no matter where you stay. This hotel was super.

Great N.O. independent
Great hotel with culture, location right near French Quarter, classy bar, nice bathroom and comfortable bedroom, free WiFi. The only negative is the relatively small room, but thats a pretty minor thing if you dont plan on spending all your time in the room (and why would you in New Orleans). Also a great free gym. All this for a very low price. The staff also seems genuinely happy you are there. I would not recommend having a car here, though, b/c you dont need it and its $30 a night for valet.

comfortable and calming environment
the atmosphere throughout the hotel was very calming and serene. i greatly enjoyed the modern decor and eclectic mix of music in the check-in and bar areas. all of the employees were very nice and helpful. my only complaint would be how completely uncomfortable the bed was. everything would have been 100% perfect if only the bed made me as restful as the overall atmosphere.

A class act
I was very impressed with this hotel. They certainly are a class act. The building is older (ca 1900), but they did a good job renovating it; however the room was not set up well for business use (i.e., not much desk space). But the free wireless more than made up for it. Plus, theres plenty of space to spread out at the bar downstairs, where the wireless reception was good. In addition, it was very centrally located; theres plenty of good resturants within walking distance. Id definitely go back again.

Nice, affordable hotel in great location, but small on amenities (6/7/08)
This hotel is located within a few blocks of most of the major attractions and sites in New Orleans. The rates are very affordable, but would not recommend this hotel for families. Very nice lobby and bar area, but the rest of the hotel is somewhat dated. The rooms are on the small side, but the bathrooms are larger than most. If youre looking for a nice hotel within walking distance of the French Market, downtown and the river, this is the place.
Traveler's tip on nightlife
Travel to the Garden District for dinner and nightlife. It is only a 10-15 cab ride and is not as crowded and expensive as the French Quarter.

New Orleans Hotel
The room was very clean, attractive and comfortable. Cleanliness is a top priority for us. The only issue is that the bathroom did not have bright lights. While the Hotel is not on Bourbon Street, it is within walking distance of all of the French Quarter restaurants and antique shops. We recommend this Hotel.
Traveler's tip on recreational activities
Be sure to take the Plantation Tour and the tour of the City. The Hotel can help you with these arrangements.

walking distance to french quarter
International House is a boutique hotel I have visited previously (before Katrina). It looks like things are back to normal, as the hotel service was good as ever. I like the lobby area, spacious and lots of armchairs and sofas to lounge on, plus there is a bar nearby. Their music selection is good, I like the fact that they have Jazz CDs in every room. There is small things that need to be repaired in hotel (i.e. entrance door handle to the hotel was missing on one wing) that takes away from the whole experience, but I would recommend staying here. As with most New Orleans hotels that are in or around French Quarter, finding self-parking is difficult, plus it is not safe to do so. Therefore you have to get valet parking which is not cheap but that is the same case with most hotels in the area. My suggestion is not to rent a car if you plan to stay in the city, and use cab or streetcar to get where you want to go.

Great Hotel
We just got back from New Orleans and had such a great stay at the International House that I am almost compelled to write a review. The hotel was great. It is blocks from the French Quarter and Bourbon Street so touring the city was easy. Plus, the hotel was on the other side of Canal Street, so it was much quieter than many of the other hotels located in the French Quarter. Overall we found it a great place to retire to after a hard day of touring and a fun night of partying. I highly recommend this hotel to others vacationing in New Orleans.

hit or miss
this hotel could be very nice if they kept it up better. the lobby is beautiful and the bar is nice. however, the rooms could use some maintenance. the walls were beat up and there were holes by a couple of fixtures. there was no fitted sheet on the bed, which is bad if you move at all while sleeping, which i do. the worst thing was that the maid picked the towels up off of the floor and put them back on the rack as if they were clean. but there are nice bath products in the huge bathroom. overall the hotel is uneven. but it was clean and inexpensive.
