“Beautiful garden, great breakfast”

Hotel New Otani Tokyo

May 2, 2008

We stayed here for 5 nights in April 08 in the 'Main' section and quite liked the hotel. Here's a summary:
* Location was quite good - Akasaka Mitsuke metro station is under 5 minute walk and is quite well connected to main sights. Area has lots of restaurants but is smaller and quieter than the main centres and is quite nice for a stroll.
* Staff were very helpful and had good English as far as we experienced...helped us check helicopter flights and Tsukigi markets.
* The garden is lovely and relaxing... can be enjoyed from the Garden Lounge.
* Western buffet breakfast including eggs and bacon to order at the Garden Lounge was delicious and quite cheap for such a hotel when you join the club (for free online) and present your card (1700 yen)
* Room was spacious for Tokyo but the bathroom was quite small ... comfy bed though!
* One thing to keep in mind...the hotel is HUGE! So not a place to go if you're after a 'cosy' or more personal type of accommodation, but we were very happy overall.

“Hotel in hotel Execitive House Zen”

Hotel New Otani Tokyo

5 of 5 stars
Saitama, Japan
Apr 20, 2008

I stayed at New Otani last November.
I like to stay at hotels that have club lounge.
New Otani opened rooms with club lounge last year.
The name of room is "Exective House Zen".
People who stay at Zen have to insert card key in front of the door when they enter the club lounge and room.
Security system is really good!
I stayed standard room(11th floor) overlooking Tokyo Tower.
It's very clean and stylish.

At club lounge ,I can see skyscraper at Shinjuku district.
It's very beautiful.
I had breakfast in club lounge.
Croissant is very big and good!
It is made of piere erme in France.
We can only eat this croissant at Zen in Japan.

Staff is very helpful and friendly.
I 'm very pleased with Zen.

I stayed many hotels with exective floor.
I think Exective House Zen is best room in Japan.
I'm looking forward to staying again!

“No speak the english”

Hotel New Otani Tokyo

3 of 5 stars
Wellington, New Zealand
Apr 1, 2008

Have just had four days at this hotel, service was superb, BUT hardly anyone spoke english well enough to understand me, ( I Am after all a New Zealander and might talk funny BUT how many ways can you say "Bar" ??????) The view from room was fine we actually SAW Mt Fuji one morning, the staff were helpful and because I had read all the advice from previous guests we knew there were cheaper eating places in basement and that turned out to be true and wonderful. Beware the "Sandwich buffet" in the Garden room unless you are a rugby player or a sumo wrestler you will be swept off you feet at 11.29am when ther starving hordes line up and push you away. Was funny to watch but not funny to be at the back of the ? queue all the time. All in all a great experience and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

“Pleasant but expensive”

Hotel New Otani Tokyo

Mar 25, 2008

I stayed 5 days at this hotel while attending a Government of Japan hosted meeting. The corner room on an upper floor of the tower building was as large as any 4 or 5 star hotel room I have stayed in and well furnished. The bathroom was excellent in quality and size as well as with the toilet articles supplied. It is a huge rambling main floor conecting three buildings. The main lobby and other areas a little dated in their furnishings but clean and high quality. Although there are something like 35 or 37 bars and restaurants, they are pricy, especially the branch of the famous Paris restuarant located on the main floor ($400 easily for the menu without any drinks). The sandwich luncheon buffet overlooking the lovely Japanese garden is worth enjoying but be early as there is a rush and the food starts to run out. Likewise highly recommended is a tea house in the garden and another sushi-type little restaurant hidden in centre of the garden. The breakfast on the 40th floor at $35 is not worth that price except for the view of Mount Fuji which was perhaps worth the price. There is a Starbucks in the lower shopping level which is fine. The staff were very polite and the young lady who took my bags to my room insisted that I not tip which was refreshing.

“Good, but nothing to write home about...”

Hotel New Otani Tokyo

4 of 5 stars
San Francisco, California
Mar 23, 2008

I was traveling on business and just checked out of the Grand Hyatt. Since it was going to be on my dime, I decided to stay somewhere more affordable. I was pampered and completely spoiled with luxury at the Grand Hyatt...so it's not fair to compare. The staff like any 4 star hotel in Tokyo were warm and accomodating. Everyone smiles and tries to be helpful...I wish all 4 star hotels all over the world share that same enthusiam. The room was a good size for Tokyo, but the bathroom was small in comparison. It didn't have any of the fancy amenities that I experienced at the Grand Hyatt, but hey...it's cheaper. The only positive regarding the location was that the nearest subway station seem to connect with every well known tourist area. All in all, even though it was cheaper, for the price I ended up paying, I expected a bit more.
