“Loved the Le Meridien Grand Pacific”

Grand Pacific Le Daiba

5 of 5 stars
canberra
Jun 15, 2008

The Le Meridien Grand Pacific is an amazing hotel, the moment you walk in the door the porters take your luggage. The hotel is beautifully decorated. The Concierge desk is very helpful but some of the staff do not know a lot of English they still try and help though, or they find someone who can help you.
The only bad thing I can say about this hotel is that the mattresses are extremely hard, I did read this in other reviews but thought how bad can it be, believe me they are extremely hard. Apart from that the hotel provided us with interconnecting rooms, as we travelled as a family of 4, my advice is to confirm that this is what you want about a week before you travel, they are very prompt at answering emails.
Some of the restaurants have very small portion sizes, you get a much larger amount of food at a much cheaper price in the underground mall opposite the hotel. This hotel does have a bus to disneyland/sea but book it early, probably even before you get there! as it books up very fast. Disneyland/sea is all in japanese the only thing in English is the guide/map. The airport bus does come to this hotel but book that as soon as you arrive as well.

“Great Refuge from Tokyo Bustle”

Grand Pacific Le Daiba

New York, NY

I ended up at the Grand Pacific because I had Starwood points that needed to be used to lower the cost of my Tokyo stay. I was a little concerned about how far away Odaiba seemed from downtown Tokyo, but it ended up being nice to take a break from the hectic pace of things in the city and relax in Odaiba.

The hotel itself is beautiful. As mentioned below, it's a popular spot for weddings, and the atrium was decked out in white gauze when I was there.

The front desk was nothing but helpful, and they had a helpful group of people working at the takhuiban luggage delivery desk (so that you can have your bag overnighted to your next destination--so handy!!). I asked for a higher floor room, and was upgraded for free to a room with a bridge view (thanks!).

The room was very spacious--bigger than anything I've stayed at in a major city. The bed was a bit hard; I used all the extra pillows to create a faux pillow top for myself. The view was extraordinary, esp at night. The proximity to the train was awesome (not, as many have noted part of the usual Tokyo Metro or JR, but you *can* use your Pasmo on the line), and having the Aqua City Mall right there was great. I also loved the 24 hour convenience store on the 1st floor and the yummy ice cream parlor as well!

The free Internet was VERY fast, and I never had a problem with it. The tv worked out fine too--it might be a little confusing at first as there are analog stations that use one remote and digital stations that use another. There are guides to help you with it. FYI--CNN is only on analog. I don't believe any English stations were on digital. They *did* have a bilingual button that helped me to watch movies that had been dubbed into Japanese from an originally English soundtrack.

The bathroom was fantastic--the shower worked very nicely and the toilet was the usual Japanese kind with all the fun buttons. The maid supplied me with a new set of in-bathroom goodies--even when I hadn't used the day's before! It allowed me to stock up on goods for the rest of my trip ;)

“Simple Elegance”

Grand Pacific Le Daiba

5 of 5 stars
New Orleans, LA
Apr 1, 2008

I really enjoyed the Grand Pacific. It was close enough to Tokyo (15 minute monorail ride) but outside of the hustle and bustle. It was located next to AquaCity in Daiba and at AquaCity one could find more than 30 dining options which was always nice after a long day exploring Tokyo.

The staff were nice and the 2,000 yen voucher for no room cleaning was similarly helpful.

“Great, high class hotel”

Grand Pacific Le Daiba

First up: value for money. For about USD$150/night, this was a great hotel to stay in, its top notch.

Don't want cleaning every day? They allow that. Every 2 days, you can skip, and get some money back (2000 Yen/day). This can be used to offset your hotel bill...

In-room massages are available. Great when you're tired.

Rooms are large. American sized. Not like how rooms in Japan are portrayed to be on TV (i.e. small).

Food is nice. Lots of sushi :) Even for breakfast.

Staff are helpful.

If anything, the only real issue is the place is located in Daiba, which is not on the JR train line. But there's another train line just outside, that connects pretty quickly to the JR

For business, or pleasure, this is a great hotel to be at.

“Great value..... Great hotel”

Grand Pacific Le Daiba

4 of 5 stars
Portland, Oregon
Jan 15, 2008

I spent four nights at the Grand Pacific in mid-January. As it was my first visit to Japan, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and have to honestly say I was a little disappointed to find that, with the exception of language and food, it was much like any other modern high-rise hotel in any other city in the world. Drat! A bit more of Japanese culture would have been nice. But, I suppose one could say that spotlessly clean, and prompt and efficient service are aspects of Japanese culture, too.

Other than to state I agree, I won't repeat the positives noted by other reviewers. The following observations however, were particularly noteworthy for me.

Location: Super!! Right on the monorail line, 10 minutes from the center of the city, and only one transfer/connection to Ginza, Asakusa, and other major city sights.

Beds: My wife would say, "firm". I say, "hard". Enough so that shoulders became sore if I slept on one side too long. (Another cultural aspect?)

Toilets: Multi-functional... the usual, plus douche and bidet. Here I was glad it wasn't the traditional porcelain-framed hole in the floor.

TV: Confusing! Two remotes for one TV. I was told the hotel carried CNN, but couldn't figure out how to find it. Wish I knew some Japanese, but German came in handy.

Views: Whether overlooking Tokyo harbor or the city itself, hard to beat. Best in the hotel is from the Sky Lounge on the top floor, which overlooks the city. Request a room facing that direction

Dining: For the two restaurants we tried - Le Bouquet and Hamayo - decent and reasonably priced (at least for this kind of hotel). But you'll find just as good at better prices in Aqua City, a five minute walk. If you're observant along the way, you might wonder if you're in NYC.

Other: Another reviewer mentioned the number of weddings held at the hotel. This is noteworthy if you want to see Japanese women dressed in traditional kimonos. I spent a half hour one evening sitting in the lobby admiring them.
