Stayed in a studio there for 5 nights. This is a strange place : everything has been made with an obvious effort to target an upscale market : flat screen TV, DVD player, multiple cushions on the bed, fancy bathroom.

But it seems like there wasn't any money left for soundproofing... The hotel is next to at least 3 major train lines, forget about sleeping before 2am or after 5am if you are a light sleeper. Also, the kitchen is quite nicely made with all the needed amenities, but there is no table or counter to serve as a dining area.

Lastly, they rent out a room for 2 with a semi-double bed, this is only going to work out for slim individuals unless someone is willing to sleep on the floor.

Amazing value. Great location. Studio room is more spacious than you would think. Quality of rooms is great, and has all facilities you require. Sky lounge on top floor is also great!

Already booking my next stay :)

“A home away from home”

Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku

5 of 5 stars
Beijing, China

Stayed at the Oakwood's studio apartment for only 3 days and totally enjoyed it. The location, rooms, service were excellent!

Location:
It was a 5-10 min walk from the JR Shinjuku station. Pretty straight forward if you take the west exit near Odakyu mall. Out of the exit, you turn right and walk striaght down all the way. You know you're in the right direction if you pass by an Agnes B outlet, Kentucky Fried Chicken & a Freshness Burger outlet along the way. The Shinjuku Nishiguchi metro station is much nearer to the hotel and provides easy access to Asakusa. Around the apartments, there's a great selection of food - from burgers to Japanese katsu and zaru soba. There are also several convenience stores nearby to pick up light snacks and daily necessities.

Rooms:
The studio rooms were small but cosy and definitely well equipped. The bathroom was spacious and had loads of cool features you would expect of a Japanese bathroom - tub that can be filled remotely, timed dryers to keep the bathroom dry and even dry your clothes, a warmed toilet seat, automated bidet... etc. I loved it! They also provide you with toiletries and towels. The kitchenette has a large fridge, a washing machine cum dryer that is easy to use if you follow the English instructions the apartment has thoughtfully left on the study table, coffee pot, kettle, microwave, toaster oven, stove.. everything you need to live there for a longer period. Bedroom has a double bed which was very comfortable for 2. But if you're bigger built, it may be more comfortable for 1. There's a huge flatscreen TV with cable access ( i.e English programs) but takes a little bit of figuring out.

Service & facilities:
Front desk was a great help. They spoke excellent English which helps when you can't speak a word of Japanese! They gave us good directions on how to get to and from the apartments, how to get around and gave a detailed brief of the apartments facilities which we could enjoy. They also had umbrellas for loan on rainy days. Also allowed us to leave our luggage for a couple of hours at front desk after checkout, before we caught the limo bus back to Narita. The Sky lounge provides agreat view of Tokyo at night and is a nice place to enjoy a night cap or a morning coffee. They charge very reasonable prices for beverages. All self service. At the business centre, there are 2 PCs which you can use FOC to check mail etc. Limited to 30mins use each time but that's only fair to other people who may need to use the PCs! There's also a well equipped gym and comfortable Japanese-style bath which charged upon use. You need to go to the front desk to make enquiries before use otherwise you can't get access to the bath.

Would definitely recommend this apartment to everyone going to Tokyo!

“Absolutely Fantastic”

Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku

Jun 2, 2008

I stayed in the Oakwood Apartments in Shinjuku, Tokyo for a week and could not recommend it highly enough.

The rooms are 'cozy' (like almost all hotels in Tokyo), but kitted out in all of the latest electronics from a huge flat wide screen TV and DVD player to a Bose sound system. The bed is really comfortable, although there were 1 or 2 knobs and dials in the bathroom without English translations underneath them.

I was lucky enough to get a corner room and so had windows on 2 sides of the room, providing an amazing view over Shinjuku, especially at sunset and at night!

The skylounge is incredible for relaxing in, and best of all free to use the facilities within.

The staff were always friendly and very helpful, and could speak excellent English.

One word of advice...if you are arranging to meet other people in Shinjuku, the Oakwood Apartments are closer to Shinjuku-Nishiguchi subway station (less than 2 minutes walk away) rather than the immensly complex main Shinjuku station (5 minutes walk away) - it is much easier to meet people there where there are only a handful of exits as opposed to the main stations 200+.

I will definitely be staying at the Oakwood again!!

“The best alternative to Hotel”

Oakwood Apartments Shinjuku

4 of 5 stars

I used to live in Tokyo so I didn't really want to stay in a hotel now that I was going back as a tourist.
I came accross this aparment from reading review on Trip Advisor.
You can book it through some online travel sites but if you contact Oakwood directly you can get a cheaper rate.

The place was easier to find and closer to Shinjuku station than first thought. It is an impecable , modern block of apartments mostly for foreign business man and there family, so you are expected to behave corretly.

The staff speak excelent english. There is a nice lounge, one with sofas, the other looks more like a cafe with 2 PCs hooked up to the internet. There is also a Gym with a Sento and even a music room! Let's not forget the piano bar on the top floor.

The apartment was small but ultra-modern. You can fill your bath remotely just by the touch of a botton. The bath has also a self dry option and can dry your wet clothes too.

There is all you need, equipped kitchen, big flat screen, all very modern. Just not much room to move.

Finally, our room was overlooking both shinjuku and okubo station so you a constant background noise that stops only for a couple of hours at night. That's Tokyo for you!

Great place if you are traveling alone ! Specially for business.
