“A low three star”

Hotetur Dorado Club Resort

Stayed here for my fortieth birthday with my two kids, 16 and 17yrs. All the reviews that report rooms falling apart are right on and this hotel really needs the refurbishment it should now be having. We had two double beds, dark, dirty and dingy room. Balcany doors didnt open, there was a mouldy fride and cooker hob that didnt work and the maids hardly lifted a finger...#

But for £525 each for 14 nights you culdnt really complain, it was just somewhere to rest your head! The entertainment during the day is very holiday camp, but it kept the teenagers amused, so wont complain about that either! Night time entertainment extremely naff, and your options within the whole Dorado complex limited. Theres one nightclub in the shopping plaza oposite, its gimick is a Jamaican guy who flys on top of the croud on a trapeze..Amusing for a couple of nights for me, kept my 16 yr old laughing a lot longer!

Food was good..I am vegetarian and allways found plenty to eat even if it werent your convential idea of a meal..But compared to Cuba, they got eating sussed!

Going outside the complex aint as scary as its made out..Get the bus it is 20pence and is really a large van with as many people as possible shoved in it..Dont let the so called 'guides' suck you into that you need them to be safe! It IS SAFE up until it gets dark and the locals get drunk time. Then they can become like a bunch of British football fans, had one bad experience when at the local night club in town, but didnt let that put us off..!

Haggle like hell for everything, I hear of things going down from £100 to £10..and got a few bargings, as well as being ripped of for some crap jewllery!

Do the horse riding, especially if you can ride as they will give you a horse that isnt a pack animal and its beautiful countryside..my daughter even had her horse swimming..

Ocean world was also good but a long day..(especially with a hangover) Dolphoin swim fab, but photos pricey..

Scuba diving was long and awesome..(you can book and haggle with all bar the Ocean World trip at the plaza,or even cheaper on the beach..You will get told not to buy off the beach but this is only because they are looking for commission in the hotels and plaza..On one trip we paid £25 less than others just by booking at the beach..

The countryside experience was also well worth it, though the all inclusive bit left a bit to desire../food inedible in a stinking restraunt..

Watch out for the locals who all want to flatter you inot marriage..
You have to remeber how really poor this country is..Very sad the lengths they go to..

You will get offered drugswhilst there..But they accept no, from what I heard you need to even haggle about that!!

Would I go back? If there was nowhere else going at a price I could afford then yeah I suppose so...but it wouldnt be my first second or fifth choice..

Some people will complain about everything. After reading several reviews on here I was a little nervous about what the resort would be like. This resort was amazing and the staff work so hard! Everyone in my group of seven were really happy with the resort. For the money that we paid it was more than worth it.

“Great Value”

We were a bit dubious about the holiday after seeing alot of the reviews on here. Hotel was very clean - a little dated, room wasn't massive but there were only 2 of us sleeping, showering and getting changed there - maid was great and friendy, bed made daily and towels changed daily.
Food was fine, there were different themed nights (Italian, Mexican etc).
Good selection in buffet resteraunt but also 2 other resteraunts to eat in all inclusive once a week as long as you booked in advance.
Main swimming pool a good size and staff at the poolside bar very friendly. The beach was lovely, only a short stroll away with snacks and beverages available until 6pm daily at the beach bar.
Evening entertainment was varied, shows, singers, beach party, pool party and BBQ, band played, karaoke.
We really enjoyed the whole 2 weeks, weather was great and thought the holiday was excellent value for money considering what we paid for 2weeks for 2 of us. ;-)

    • Disliked — We didn't have a balcony and room could have been a little bigger - thats all

“A good 3 star hotel”

Hotetur Dorado Club Resort

After reading some reviews we were worried about this hotel, it was definitely alot better than expected. The hotel does need refurbishing as it looks a little tired but everything is very clean. There are different types of rooms, we had a huge apartment which had two floors and 3 double beds for 3 of us, 2 bathrooms and enough room for about 6 more people. the only down side was the air con which was really noisy so slept without it.
The food was lovely, dont go expecting english food you are in the dominican, but what they do have is gorgeous. My daughter who is 16 had no problems at all she ate more than she has ever done on holiday before. If that's not to your liking the beach bar does burgers, chicken and toasted sandwiches with chips.
I have to say the waitors and waitresess are lovely and will help you with what ever you need.
The pool is one of the biggest in the complex and there's also a kiddies pool. Everyday the entertainment team (James Bond, Brad Pitt and Rambo) do games and dances round the pool, they work hard at keeping you entertained and if you get people like we did who are up for joining in, you will have a really good time with them. The entertainment at night was a bit hit and miss but it was so cheesy it ended up being hilairious, especially rambo who does the karioke very badly but funny. There was alot of people that arrived on the same day as us and we all got on very well which added to the entertainment fun.
As far as sunbathing is concerned I cannot over emphasise how strong the sun is, you will need at least factor 30, the sun for some reason is stronger here than in places like greece. We all burnt badly and we were just continually putting it on. Lots of people we spoke to had the same problem with blistering and had to cover up.
The beach is great but there is alot of sellers going up and down, just say no thankyou and your left alone.
We went on 3 trips, horse riding with chico at the hotel, we saw the real Dominican people and countyside, dont expect horse riding hats- their health and safety is not like ours, but they do look after you.
The Outback Safari was brilliant , lots to do and see well worth the money. Ocean world was just amazing, it's not lke florida with thousands of people there could of only been 400 people there. Lots of room and time to see everything. The dolphin swim which my daughter did was out of this world. well worth the money as you get alot of time with them. Drinks and food are not included on entrance fee, but they were reasonable we shared a freshly prepared large Pizza for 9 dollars which is not alot.
Overall our holiday was amazing, We are going back next year, We are not sure if it will be this hotel as it is closing down at end of April for refurb, we will have to see when it get's finished. Looking at the reviews and some of the complaints that were made while we were there, I can honestly say that these people will moan whatever, we worked out that it cost us each £18.20 a day to stay there, where can you get a room, all you can eat and drink for 24 hrs a day ? this hotel is 3 star not 4 or 5, if you want Luxury then you have to pay for it, you cant expect to get it at the prices that people pay for this hotel. Also if you want to make the waiters, cleaners, maids, barmens day, if you have any spare money at the end of your trip please give them a tip, they really dont get alot of money, and our change is alot to them.
