I don't know where the BAD reviews stayed but it could'nt have been H.V.G.B. or are they just hard to please !!! It's not a 5* luxury hotel but you get what you pay for, 4* enjoyment !!

The food was fine in the buffet, always found something to eat. The tables were kept cleared and spotless, the staff work so hard. Some reviews have said that they could never get a table or a clean one, well if you go at the most popular times to eat then you may find it harder to get seated but we worked around this by going after 8.p.m. and never had any problems.
We loved the a la carte resturantes, except for the Carribean on the beach but that was personal choice.

We were a party of 3, myself, husband and son aged 15, we also met up with friends that we had met last year in Turkey (hiya Julie and Chris). We hardly seen our son as soon as he got there he made lots of new friends and there was always something for them to do like football, snooker, pool games, the kids club reps work so hard especially if you have young kids, there is always something going on for them most of the day and evening.

The wave pool area is fantastic (although a little slippery) be carefull as we seen quite a lot of people slipping over at the waters edge. You can get snacks here after 12.30 p.m. we were looked after by Antonnio the waiter for 2 weeks (a small tip each day goes a long way !!)

Our room was nice, cleaned daily with fresh towels but some rooms were a bit small and dark, we heard quite a few complaints about the rooms but you only spend a few hours in there each day mainly sleeping so i don't know what the problem is really. The air con in the rooms is good although a bit loud through the night when you're trying to sleep.
The mosqittoes are a problem, everyone had lots of bites all over them, except for me, haha!! they don't seem to like me, thank god !!

Can't really comment on the family evening entertainment as we did'nt really see much of it, what we did see looked o.k.. we spent our evenings in the Adult only bar which was great with air con and music. We also went to the casino on the complex most nights to have a little flutter on the machines.

Please don't let the BAD reviews put you off the hotel, i was worried before we stayed, everyones opinions are different and as they say you can't please all the people all the time !! WE LOVED IT !!!!

we have just arrived back today from GBHV, there were 8 in our party, ages ranging from 10 to 56, we read a lot of reviews and were confused by the varying opinions of previous holiday makers. I have never written a review before but felt compelled to do so this time. The rooms are basic, although some have been refurbished and these are supposed to be better, the rooms are clean as are the surrounding areas, One of the parties made several complaints about their toilet keep breaking, the reps always dealt with it effeciently and after a week of it still breaking a brand new toilet was installed. The food was good, yes there is alot of chicken along with many other choices, our children always found something to eat and enjoyed it, a few of us suffered slight upset stomachs but nothing major, I have had worse in Menorca. The mosquitoes are troublesome but we took B1 tablet every day for a couple of weeks before we went and whilst we were there, and this helped as did tropical strenth repellent and patches. The bar staff were wonderful, they earn £25 a week so tipping goes along way, you will be given a fresh drink as soon as you have finished the last one for giving a doller here and there, The entertainment staff kept every one amused day and night, well done every one. The Al acarte restaurants were tried by us all and the Oriental was our least favourite and the Italien our favourite. I am sure you will enjoy your holiday if you go not expecting 4* luxury.

“Young Couple Review......”

Holiday Village Golden Beach

Me & my partner both 23 have just returned and had an awesome time!

THE ONLY DOWNFALL:-

***Mexican restaraunt - The only downfall with this hotel, so ill get it out the way with first...... Horrid food, not even mexican. What kind of mexican doesnt have chilli's or jalepenos??? Food not very nice at all and the place is like a sauna, i had to leave half way through the meal because me & my girlfriend were sweating too much.... the lights in the restraunt are really low down and the heat is crazy!***

Rooms - Very nice & comfortable, nice big bed & air con always on so its nice & cool in the evening. Power shower which was good & towels changed every day & the maid cleans the room well & keeps your fridge stocked up with beer/water/pop if you tip her early on in your stay!

Beach - Loved it, very nice sand's & warm sea! Always a sun lounger spare. You get the odd coconut seller & trip tout, but if you tell them no, they dont bug you, also people offering you hair braiding service. They dont pester you so it isnt really an issue unless your a grumpy old battleaxe!

Pools in Hotel - Wave pool, didnt go as its mainly for kids so i cant advise. Main pool - where all the entertainment is..... Brilliant location and found ourselves arounf here most of the stay. Always activites through the day, water polo, killer darts, poker, archery, bowls, water aerobics for the men & women & lots of kids activities too! The reps are good fun & will try n please all!

Bars - Pool Bar around main pool - very good service & some nice cocktails! Tip them and they tend to look after you. Adult bar was good called aquanox, seemed to be in there every night after the entertainment, nice & cool with air-con, no smoking as well. Entertainment was ok, better for the kids but if your a young couple all you need is a place to drink.

Buffet Restaraunt - No complaints, always had a lot of choice for breakfast, lunch, tea & the food is pretty nice. Only on one occasion i didnt fancy anything on the menu so thats pretty good!

Oriental restaraunt:- Spot on, food very nice, no complaints, we went 3 times!

Carribean restaraunt - Very good setting down on the beach, nice & calm - good atmosphere! Food very nice on our 2nd visit to the restaraunt!

Italian Restaraunt - The best restaraunt by far, went 3 times and loved all the food, service, wine....!

Trips:- We went to Ocean World and swam with Dolphins $330 for the pair of us (about £185 pounds). Fantastic!

All in all, a very good cheap stay, good food, drink, atmosphere, activites and wouldnt mind going back next year!

“Great trip with my grandkids.....................”

Holiday Village Golden Beach

2 of 5 stars
Ottawa, Canada
Jun 30, 2008

Had a great time with my grandkids, but the staff could do with a course on smiling. The rooms were OK , the resturants were very nice.
One of the great things about this trip was that my room was next to my daughter-in-law and the kids. This was very nice, we were within walking distance to the main entrance, the buffet resturant ,not far from the pools and the stage, were the shows were at night.

The Buffet resturant was very clean but not much in choice in the food seemed to be alway the same thing over and over. The oriental resturant was great but we could only eat there once a week.

Had trouble getting a good drink the bartenders didn't know how to mix any drinks per mix drinks and beer were ok.

I found the main pool very busy lots of kids and you have to get up early and play the towel game with the chairs. Also all the pools were close at 6 o'clock , why no one knew. Be very careful with your towels we left one on a chair and someone took it and my daughter-in-law had to pay $20.00 before we left.

The beach was beautiful and the water nice a warm with very little waves. The only problem we had on the beach were the girls who will do beads in your hair they are very pushies, had to stop one of them from yelling at my grand daughter.

You must go to Ocean World Adventure Park it is one of the nicest park I have visited. Swimming with the dolphins is a must. So is the Shark encouter and swimming with the stingrays.
There is a seal and sea lion show and make sure to wear your swim suit there are special beaches to go swimming.
The park was great for the kids, lots of fun and worth the money.

Had a great time with the kids but wouldn't return to this resort.

“CANCEL IF YOU CAN -”

Holiday Village Golden Beach

this is a review based on 4 people travelling together 50 years old - On 1st impression the village looked great - but on futher inspection it was shabby and dirty. Having travelled all over the world i have stayed in better camp sites.
Bedrooms are small, dark and dingy. local wildlife lives on your balcony (well if you can call it a balcony, we were on the ground floor) you can hear everything that goes on above you, even the noises that occur in the little boys room.
Food :- if you like chicken or chicken or chicken you might be ok they can cook it in many ways to disguise it althought they always tell you its chicken (must breed the scrawniest chickens in the world) oh and if you like boiled potatoes for breakfast your ok.
the staff are friendly but try and get a cup for your coffee or a glass for water and your hard pushed, even finding a table is hard because they are so slow in clearing up, the birds that "live" in the restuarant eat scraps on tables and you can see their droppings at tables all over the place the staff do nothing to clean them up. The entertainment is more for the kids and although the entertainment team worked hard i am afraid it did not work for us or any one between the ages of 20 and 100. Eat as much as you can in the a la carte restuarants and you will survive the ordeal especially the oriental and the italian inside the casino. The swiming pool is full when there are 10 people in it - and sometimes you cant even get in because the action team are playing waterpolo, games consist of killer darts (wow) volleyball on the beach, archery, french boules (in 90 deg heat) spoiled for choice we were, ohhhhhhhh and not forgetting the dreaded aquarobics. The Soft drinks contained more alchohol than the alchoholic ones - beers ok though. the place lacks any real atmosphere and there is nowhere to get away from the dreaded extra extra loud music from 10am until midnight so dont expect peace and quite. the aquanox lounge(i thought a lounge was a quiet place) there is a girl who does cabaret from 8pm - 9pm 6 days a week - good singer - but then comes the karaoke from 9pm until 1pm - i sing on the karaoke but this is loud (dont walk past a speaker or your ears will leave the planet, and when there is no cabaret or karaoke on, guess what the music is still there pounding away so bad you have to shouit at the bar staff to get a drink. i suppose i could go on about the hotel but it wont do me any good because i have paid my money and had a bad holiday, hopefully you will read this before you pay your hard earned cash to first choice. Now for the good points, let me think- unless you go on trips there are none
