I normally think really hard when I start a review, so much in fact that I tend to waste my vacation thinking of my review and this site. I really am kind of lost on where to start with this. It will be a very long review and the pics will be added. We took over 200 of them. I did give it a 5 star. I considered a 4 star but then thought it was more of the stuff off the resort that put a blemish on our stay.

You land at the airport which from the outside is nowhere nice as the inside. There was an hour hold up to get into the country. From that point we made it into the sandals lounge and I was told you only had time for 2 beers. I drank 5 to prep for the drive. They told us the bus was ready after 15 minutes. Our bags were picked up and taken to the bus. The guy will pretty much ask for a tip the whole way, but still really nice and tells you all about his country. They are proud to be there. I gave him 4 bucks for 2 bags. I got on the bus and it is ok to take a couple beers on. We sat and waited for about 45 more minutes for other people. I got kinda frustrated but then remembered my cool and being on jamaica time. We were off and stopped after 20 minutes and bought beers. I bought six and they came in a bucket with ice for 18 us dollars. I drank 4 by the time we got to the resort. It goes fast if you drink. But you drive by alot of other resorts and it really looked like we made a good choice.

The worst part came next. Check in was somewhat of a nightmare. They have you fill out all kinds of papers and it is somewhat unorganized. Note: you need a credit card to check in--even if you paid already. We couldnt get any to go through because of fraud protection. So we used cash. But not one shop on the resort take cash. It was a hassle and they left notes under our door to bring them a card all week. When we called the bank to get it taken care of. It was 11 dollars for 5 minutes on the phone.

We were upgraded from the naples grande lux honeymoon in the rialto towers to the oceanview suite room 2418. It was perfect. The ac was ice cold and we were welcomed with a liter of appleton rum. There were no restaurants open so we had a pizza. Which was really good. A very different taste than back home. Tell them to make it spicy they coat it with peppers. We then went to the tree bar and met Uton. He is the best guy on the resort. He makes his special drink that we went back for all week. Also one heck of a chocolate martini. We came back everynight to see him.

The resort is extra clean and people are very helpful and love to greet you. I was only offered pot once on the resort. The pool water was perfect everyday. The water does have a salty feel to it, but it is not salt water. The beach IS NOT too small. For the people that complain about it, nobody is ever in the ocean. You get the beach almost to yourself.

The beach walkers that sell and holler at you are really annoying. If it were my resort I would tell the guards to keep them off and tell them to get there noisy jet skis off the water. They didnt bother you if you dont watch them, just ignore them. But when you walked by that fence they hollered from 100 ft away to get you there. They are prepared with a huge sack of pot to sell you. With the guard right there too. Sandals is too leanient on want they allow.

They have people on fridays come in by the tree bar and set up stands. These people are really nice and not pushy. We bought a frame that was hand painted and a picture for 40 dollars and we had necklaces made for us right there. Save your money for them.

They surprised us with a birthday cake for me and an anniversary cake for us in our rooms also

There are a few annoying points about the place but its by far the best place i have been. The people and service are what make it worth it. It was alot of money but with the premium drinks and the blue blue water, was worth it.

We did one tour and it was the dunns falls. If you go, take the Katt out, not the bus. We were really really heckled after the falls by the sales guys and couldnt get out. It was a horrible feeling. I guess when you take the boat there, you get to skip all that. And come back partying. We watched the katt come back 3 times and it looked really fun. Pay the extra money.

The restaurants were all great. I usually compare all inclusives to low end places to eat, but this was some of the better food i had.

Kimonos--very fun, we met alot of cool people here. The food wasnt the greatest, but very worth it. It is very hot inside (no ac)

Marco polo--the nicest place and only ac place--had the chicken cordon blue and it was great. it is also open for breakfast and is very good for breakfast and you dont have to dress up in the morning

we didnt eat colombos for dinner just lunch and breakfast buffets, they all taste the same.

we ate the beach grill for lunch. The fish sandwich is the best, its really really good. And if you see heinz ketchup, take it, its hard to come by.

Italian place (forgot the name)

very good, actually might have been my favorite. Very fancy as well.

We also had the candlelight dinner saturday night on the waterfall. It was worth the money---i asked for steak and lobster and got it. The service and view was out of this world. It is a must do. They even print your menus and laminate them with your names on them

the pizza place was great anytime. Have them make a calzone, it was the best i have had.

I also had every drink on the pool menu--the dirty banana was the best but they are all too filling. Stick with the beer, its good and cold!!

There were two outside buffets and they were really fun, dont miss these on monday and thursday nights. also listen to the steel band if you can.

The resort gets an A in my book. They could improve, but could easy worsen. We took the bus to SGOR and hated it, couldnt get home fast enough. Its big and divided and the workers dont even look at you. SDR is the best!! You wont regret it!! We met some of the coolest people we have ever met there and will be back!! Leaving will litterly bring tears to your eyes!!

“Amazing Honeymoon”

My concerns for our honeymoon were: safety, weather, quality of food, and the size/quality of the room. I was completely AMAZED by the care of the resort staff to take care of us from the moment of our arrival at the airport until we flew out again. The weather could not have been more perfect, and the food was absolutely gourmet- even to our high standards!!! Our concierge suite wasn't overly large, but it was perfect for our honeymoon. I thought maybe we would have a separate sitting area, but we just had a table/chairs out on the patio. The room service feature was AWESOME- especially since it included linen tablecloth, napkin placed in our lap, gourmet food in the comfort and beauty of our own balcony! Overall- it was the absolute best a honeymoon could be! We relaxed and enjoyed each other while the staff spoiled us! I cannot recommend it enough if you want a totally laid back, luxury, all-inclusive trip!!!

“Best wedding destination ever”

Sandals Dunn's River Villagio Golf Resort and Spa

My now husband and I had our wedding at Sandals Dunns River on July 4th. It was wonderful. We brought 50+ people into the resort and had a lovely ceremony right on the ocean and a rockin reception on a pier over the water. Our guests told us it was beautiful and everybody seemed to have a good time. We were nervous leading up to the event as we planned it from California and only had emails and phone calls with a wedding coordinator who is based out of Miami to go by. When we got there, though, we met with Leila, who is the onsite coordinator and is amazing. She is warm and organized and knows her stuff. She understood that we didn't want a lot of fuss and even shooed away the photographer when she could see that we had had enough. I give her an A+++!

We had couples and none couples come to the resort. A few of our friends shared a room and it wasn't a big deal at all. My sister even stayed alone and although we had to pay a double rate, the resort was fine with her staying alone. I don't think our single friends felt out of place because we were a large group. I also didn't worry about having sucha a large group because it seemed like many of the couples staying there made friends with other couples so there was a lot of socializing in large groups going on.

The facilities are in great shape. The food was pretty good. Marco Polo was the best. The tour to Dunns River is a must do. Leading up to our stay the weather forecast said thunderstorms everyday, but it was actually bright sunshine everyday. The locals we met said to ignore the weather forecasts...they always say thunderstorms but it's always nice on the coast. Go figure!

I highly recommend this resort, especially for your wedding!

“Paradise at its best”

Sandals Dunn's River Villagio Golf Resort and Spa

Paradise at its best……..
Sandals Dunn’s River has to be one of the very best resorts in Jamaica….without question. We just spent five nights there starting 6/27/08. We have stayed at two different Super Club resorts in Jamaica (one in Runaway Bay and one in Negril) in the past few years. I can truly say that the people, facilities and over all atmosphere at SDR is far and above better than the other places we have stayed in Jamaica. From the minute we arrived at SDR the staff was there to take care of your every need and answer any and all questions.
They have enough things going on both day and night to keep you as busy and as entertained as you might desire. One great thing about the entertainment staff is that they will not hound you to participate in things…..you are asked and if you decline they leave you alone. I do believe that one of our favorite pass times while at SDR was lying by the pool drinking “Jamaica Smiles”…..really a wonderful fun drink. There are many really good things about SDR but one thing that really stands out is the varying age range of the guests….from young couples to couples having anniversaries in the 20 or more year range. All in all there was a great mix of people from all over the world.
The resort is spotless and the staff works very hard to keep it that way….they all seemed to take pride in what they do…..from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. We ate in all the restaurants at SDR and enjoyed them all. The food was always good, plentiful and there was never a long wait for service.
I have read most of the reviews for this resort (before going) on many different web sites and there were those that complained about the food, staff, and rooms…..and in general the whole resort…..and I really can’t understand those reviews. The resort was spotlessly clean and the Jamaican staff was gracious, polite and was always as helpful as they could be.

“Nice resort”

Sandals Dunn's River Villagio Golf Resort and Spa

I would recommend this resort- nice size (not too big) and it is well-maintained with tons of staff members to assist you with anything you need. I think it was renovated within the last 5 years. The rooms were great - nice size (we even had a Venetian Premium- one of the least expensive rooms). They offer turn-down service which was a nice suprise.

Our first morning we took the property tour (offered twice per day), glad we did because while it is not a big resort you will probably miss out on some of the amenities if you don't know they exisit! We found out there was a hot tub near the spa that no one ever used- we had it to ourselves the whole trip. They also have saunas and steam rooms in the same area that were never in use by other guests.

The food was good- while it will not be the best gourmet meal of your life, it's certainly better than TGIFridays or any of the large chain restaurants in US. Kimonos was a nice experience because we got to know the other guests. Make your reservations when you wake up so you can get the time you want. The bartenders were wonderful, very entertaining and generous with the booze (good chocolate martinis). Mondays they have a buffet on the beach with several choices of food (and tons of desserts!). The Italian restaurant was also open, in case you don't like what they offer in the buffet. Breakfast buffet was good- omelets made ot order, fresh fruit, pastries, etc. Let's just say I came back 10 pounds heavier!

We did the Dunns River Falls excursion, it was great- so much fun! The guides were friendly and made sure you had a good time, stayed safe and came home with great pictures. Water shoes are necessary, they cost about $18 in the gift shop (and are ugly!), so bring your own from home. You may want to buy your own waterproof camera at home to save $. There were some older women who weren't too happy about how much effort it took to climb the falls- it's not an easy hike so if you are out of shape it may be a bit of a workout for you! (but well worth it!)

The activities, such as snorkleing, glass-bottom boat, fill up quickly, so sign up for those right after you wake up to get your choice of times. We found the watersports guys who help with the windsurfing and Hobie-Cats to be very lazy- they were always telling us the water was too rough to go out, then they would go take a nap in the shade. You may have to stay on them if you want to go out. The beach was never crowded, most people were in the pools. While it's not a huge beach, it was plenty of room for us and were always able to get beach chairs. I heard that it was hard to get a pool raft in the mornings- but it's Jamaica- go in the ocean! I will say that the only snorkeling you can do is if you take the boat out to the reef.

The one negative was the late night noise we experienced our first night. This was partly due to us wanting to go to sleep at 11 pm because we had been up early to catch our flight to the island. We had a room overlooking the pools and ocean, and it was loud at night due to the bars being open until 3am. We requested to be switched to the other side of the hall and didn't have any other problems with noise after that. The staff was very professional about the room change- they actually called us the next morning and told us our new room number, then sent a bellman to take our bags across the hall. We really appreciated their service and it turned a negative into a positive.

I would like to say that while the bus ride was 1 1/2 - 2 hours from Montego Bay Airport, the driver was so entertaining that we didn't mind too much. It was nice to see the country, he pointed out all the landmarks and we were able to ask him any questions we had.

Also, some other couples had gone to the Ocho Rios Sandals and they said the Dunns River was much nicer. I also overheard a couple in the lobby saying they were staying at OR and asked to be switched to DR. The Montego Bay Sandals is right next to the airport, so if you are taking a short weekend getaway that might be a good option. I am not sure if there was a lot of noise or not since we didn't go there.

All in all, it was a great trip and we will definitely stay at a Sandals again.
