My husband Daren & I were lucky enough to have 9 days at the BCC. Everyone made us feel as if we were in our own home in Paradise. Susan, Petrona, Fuzzy, Santa & all the staff made our stay perfect!
Anisia (sp?) was our hostess while we dined out on the grounds & she is the sweetest girl I ever met! Teddy the on site chef was incredible! We ate there most of the time. As everyone has said, get ready to meet lot's of new friends.
Great Dining:
3 Dives - Awesome just up the road
Tony's Jerk stand across from BCC - Incredible! Best chix you will ever have outside of 3 Dives. It is a tie
Chicken Lavish - Very good & about 2 miles towards the roundabout
Just Natural - Very good! Food was so fresh & tasty
LTU - Good for your basic American type foods & fast service
All these places are either a short taxi ride or walk from BCC.
Normas on the Beach - so so & overpriced, service was not very good.
Just remember, everyone is very laid back so if you are used to ordering & getting your meal within 5 minutes, not going to happen here. Have a Red Stripe, relax & chill out while you wait for your meal. Take in the scenery, people & enjoy! That is why you are there in JA Mon.
Went to the YS Falls. It was 3 hours taxi ride RT ($75pp for taxi only) & Falls were nice but nothing outstanding but we can say we hit the mountains & did some exploring. The cost to get into the falls as about $20 pp I think. Did the Zip Line for an extra $30 but was only 3 short lines but it was fun. We would not do this on our next trip as we had more fun around BCC.
For snorkeling you MUST use Famous Vincent. He cruises around BCC in the am & will take you out to a reef about 20 min ride & the snorkeling is incredible! They feed the fish to attract them & they swim all around you & you feed them. Saw about 4-5 huge stingrays but it was raining when we went so underwater camera pictures did not come out very well. We wish we did more snorkeling but we put it off to our last day & regretted that. There is another man (Earl I think) that will take you out to the reef as well & he cruises the BCC all day too.
We stayed in Penthouse but are so excited to go back that we are choosing another room so we do not have to wait so long to go back.
If you want a massage - Petrona can have Sarah come to your room & give you a massage for $60 pr hour. Which is great, as all the other resorts in area wanted $100+ & we got for much cheaper, she was great & did not have to leave our room. Just plopped on a chair after & watched the sunset. She came within a 3 hour notice!
We had every intention of hitting the reggae bands on the beach @ night but we were so relaxed @ BCC, we hardly left the place. Next time we will... maybe
Ricks Cafe was good to watch the sunset but BCC one was just as beautiful. Got bored real quick @ Ricks after watching a few dives & once the sun sets, the place clears out.
HiLo @ rotary you can cash in Travelers Checks (long lines & takes a good ½ hour on a slow day. DO NOT go on Mondays. The worst & busiest day & we were in line for 1 hour waiting to cash trav checks). You can shop for groceries there too. Water for $10 a case & Red Stripe for $10-15 a case). It was a waste of time buying them (trav checks & had to pay fee to buy them in US) & having to go cash them in every few days. There are no safes in the rooms there, but no problem or worries leaving our $ in the room. Very Safe & 24 hour security @ front gate. Won't make that mistake next time & just bring cash. Never used credit card @ all, just cash. Easier & a lot of smaller places may not take them anyway. There is a little store across the street & a bit pricy but the same as if you had to spend the $10 RT taxi fare to Hi-Lo, washes it out.
Have to check out Bentley’s crab shack across the street & up the hill from BCC. He was a sweetheart & so excited to cook for us. It took a while as does everything there, but so worth the wait. Very yummy crab cakes & stuffed crab backs & rice & carrots… OMG were delicious.
If you stay in the Penthouse, the refig does not work very well so get a Styrofoam cooler & Ice @ little store across the street (did not see any coolers @ HiLo) & you will have ice cold beer! That was worth it weight in gold, to me anyway. I also packed toiletries in a small soft cooler so I could keep cold beers in it when we were down hanging out with people @ BCC on the grounds & we could bring on day trips to have cold drinks avail.
Do not bother using the shower on the top floor of the Penthouse. There is one on the first level w/better pressure & you do not even have to close the curtain. Just lather up while looking out at the ocean. Top floor toilet very… sensitive, so as I was told from a prior Penthouse guest (sorry to be so blunt but will avoid you having to ask for a plunger like we did) & use the downstairs bathroom for “serious business”
We heard so many stories about having to be careful & vendors but we had no problem. As we were told by a reoccurring guest @ BCC, just treat everyone & act as you would around your grandmother…in other words, be kind & polite & smile with a firm no when approached from vendors & you will be fine. After a couple of times, the vendors knew who we were & did not bother us & would just greet them with an warm hello & have a nice day. I was expecting to be haggled around every corner & was not nearly as bad as we had been told. At least in Negril. We did not go out at night so I can not tell you much about the nightlife, but as you would anywhere, keep you wits about you @ night & use common sense.
Hope this review helped & I am open to being contacted if you have any questions about BCC & the area I can answer. The only thing you will regret about BCC is when you have to leave.
FYI- I brought down big bag of school supplies (crayons, lots of pencils, pens, some paper, pencil sharpeners, tons of rulers & got all at Wal-Mart for cheap $) as the locals can not always get to Kingston & school supplies are expensive. So if you have some extra room in your bags, I gave to Petrona these things & told her she could give to any employees that had kids & to let the kids bring the extra school supplies to school vs us as we did not want any recognition but felt the employees kids would deserve that more for bringing supplies to school to share/distribute. For such a poverty stricken country, the Jamaican’s attitude & outlook were so positive & they were all so happy & thankful for the whatever they had, that we could all learn that from them. Great people, great example! Have fun & maybe see you there sometime!
