We stayed at Club Ambiance from 2nd - 16th June & had a great time.
I had researched very thoroughly online about this resort & so knew not to compare to the mega resorts that some other holidaymakers had been dropped off first from the coach - my boyfriends face dropped when he saw the entrance to Club Ambiance compared to the previous drop (Grand Bahia) but I told him not to panic! In fact, the tour rep himself actually said not to be swayed by the posh frontage to GBP - we would have a much better time & service at CA!! And he was right!
I must stress that this is NOT a "five star resort" so anyone who wants all the fineries associated with that standard would be best looking elsewhere, but if you want a small, friendly, safe resort with excellent service then this is the place for you.
The reception area is nice & brightly decorated with a couple of shops, one selling jewelery & one that sells gifts, toileteries, snacks, drinks & ciggies. There is also a little beauty salon that does nails & hair, etc. I had a very nice manicure here.
Our room (no.35) was located right next to the pool which meant that our patio wasn't very private but I didn't mind due to the convenience of basically just stepping out of the patio doors & into the pool! The room itself was cleaned daily (very thorough too) & was spacious. The bathroom was a bit scabby round the edges but was clean, which is the main thing! The shower is powerfull although the head is fixed to the wall which I'm not so keen of, but that's just me! The hot water can also disapear too! The air conditioning is powerfull but noisy, although this didn't bother me - it did die on us though but this was on the last day so we were ok!
The meals were good & plentiful. There was lots of choice from the traditional local fare to more international cuisine, enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters I'm sure (& that includes me!) The only small negative here (for us) was that there was often a lot of bones in the meat, so be careful when chewing as i nearly cracked a tooth one day! It's more of a problem when they serve the evening meal outside on the terrace - eating by candlelight may sound romantic but when you can't see your food so well it's easy to miss the bones!!! There is also a sign that say's "Please do feed the cats" which especially appealed to me! They are quite shy though although there was one small pregnant cat who was very vocal - she loves extreme rubbing to the head but is also prone to batting you too! I think she was just grumpy being preggers & in that heat too who can blame her!
The pool itself isn't much to look (same as the beach really) but there's plenty of sunbeds & shady spots. I went snorkelling & there is some pretty fish about although there was quite a lot of "bits" in the water as we had quite a few storms.
The staff here are lovely & friendly. You can been as involved as you want to be with the entertainment, from sports activities to quizzes or drinking games when it's raining (ducky fuzz or fuzzy duck anyone?!! LOL! - Thanks for that Macho!). Also must mention Maria, Nigel & Phillip at the bar, Eustace the gardener & most definately Neil (top man!) for being so friendly. The staff are the best here.
This was our first experience of all inclusive, and whilst it was great value, after the first week I did start to feel a little restricted here. Whilst they did say that the nearby area was safe to walk around there isn't really much about & to be honest, if I've paid for all inclusive I'm a little reluctant to go out & pay for food & drink when i've already paid for it as part of my holiday! With that in mind, for me, if I go all inclusive again it would have to be in a much larger resort with more choice of bars & restaurants. This resort really is "compact & bijou" as they say!
In summary I feel this a very nicely kept & friendly resort, a bit on the small side for me - nothing showy or posh - excellent for first timers to Jamaica.
Anyone want any more info about the resort or any trips (we did plenty!) feel free to contact me.
p.s Reggae is played A LOT here, especially for the evening entertainment and we did find it a little repetative I'm afraid - just a personal thing for us & I know it was only to be expected, this is Jamaica after all, but by the end of our holiday we were like....Aaarrgh...no more!!
