“Great Value Resort - No problem!”

Club Ambiance

5 of 5 stars
Sleepy Lincolnshire

We stayed at Club Ambiance from 2nd - 16th June & had a great time.

I had researched very thoroughly online about this resort & so knew not to compare to the mega resorts that some other holidaymakers had been dropped off first from the coach - my boyfriends face dropped when he saw the entrance to Club Ambiance compared to the previous drop (Grand Bahia) but I told him not to panic! In fact, the tour rep himself actually said not to be swayed by the posh frontage to GBP - we would have a much better time & service at CA!! And he was right!

I must stress that this is NOT a "five star resort" so anyone who wants all the fineries associated with that standard would be best looking elsewhere, but if you want a small, friendly, safe resort with excellent service then this is the place for you.

The reception area is nice & brightly decorated with a couple of shops, one selling jewelery & one that sells gifts, toileteries, snacks, drinks & ciggies. There is also a little beauty salon that does nails & hair, etc. I had a very nice manicure here.

Our room (no.35) was located right next to the pool which meant that our patio wasn't very private but I didn't mind due to the convenience of basically just stepping out of the patio doors & into the pool! The room itself was cleaned daily (very thorough too) & was spacious. The bathroom was a bit scabby round the edges but was clean, which is the main thing! The shower is powerfull although the head is fixed to the wall which I'm not so keen of, but that's just me! The hot water can also disapear too! The air conditioning is powerfull but noisy, although this didn't bother me - it did die on us though but this was on the last day so we were ok!

The meals were good & plentiful. There was lots of choice from the traditional local fare to more international cuisine, enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters I'm sure (& that includes me!) The only small negative here (for us) was that there was often a lot of bones in the meat, so be careful when chewing as i nearly cracked a tooth one day! It's more of a problem when they serve the evening meal outside on the terrace - eating by candlelight may sound romantic but when you can't see your food so well it's easy to miss the bones!!! There is also a sign that say's "Please do feed the cats" which especially appealed to me! They are quite shy though although there was one small pregnant cat who was very vocal - she loves extreme rubbing to the head but is also prone to batting you too! I think she was just grumpy being preggers & in that heat too who can blame her!

The pool itself isn't much to look (same as the beach really) but there's plenty of sunbeds & shady spots. I went snorkelling & there is some pretty fish about although there was quite a lot of "bits" in the water as we had quite a few storms.

The staff here are lovely & friendly. You can been as involved as you want to be with the entertainment, from sports activities to quizzes or drinking games when it's raining (ducky fuzz or fuzzy duck anyone?!! LOL! - Thanks for that Macho!). Also must mention Maria, Nigel & Phillip at the bar, Eustace the gardener & most definately Neil (top man!) for being so friendly. The staff are the best here.

This was our first experience of all inclusive, and whilst it was great value, after the first week I did start to feel a little restricted here. Whilst they did say that the nearby area was safe to walk around there isn't really much about & to be honest, if I've paid for all inclusive I'm a little reluctant to go out & pay for food & drink when i've already paid for it as part of my holiday! With that in mind, for me, if I go all inclusive again it would have to be in a much larger resort with more choice of bars & restaurants. This resort really is "compact & bijou" as they say!

In summary I feel this a very nicely kept & friendly resort, a bit on the small side for me - nothing showy or posh - excellent for first timers to Jamaica.

Anyone want any more info about the resort or any trips (we did plenty!) feel free to contact me.

p.s Reggae is played A LOT here, especially for the evening entertainment and we did find it a little repetative I'm afraid - just a personal thing for us & I know it was only to be expected, this is Jamaica after all, but by the end of our holiday we were like....Aaarrgh...no more!!

“What a fantastic place!!!”

Club Ambiance

Well what can I say. This was the first time we had been to Club Ambiance and we shall definitely be returning. Everything about this place is keyed up for relaxation, romance and fun. We got married here at the beach Gazebo and everyone did their upmost to make our day extra special(staff and fellow guests alike) Big thanks to Jasmine the wedding co ordinator who is a real sweetie!!
On arrival the hotel looks, as others have said, a little outdated, but dont be put off by this. The sevice you receive from the staff far outweighs the need for a lick of paint. This small resort provides a personal service that the bigger resorts are unable to offer. By day 3 most of the staff new our names, what we drank and even our room number where it was relevant. They were friendly, polite and lots of fun to be around day and night. The entertainment team consists of Maria, Niel and Macho and they boy do they know how to entertain. The resident band plays nightly from early evening and provide great music until 9.30 when the main entertainment begins.
Our room was a honeymoon suite overlooking the sea and was kept clean and tidy daily by the maids.
The food was varied and very enjoyable throughout our stay.
All in all we cannot fault this hotel at all and we made some great friends. It is not a 5 star hotel, but we didnt pay for 5 star so didnt expect it.
If you are looking for a romantic, relaxing break, away from the bigger resorts then Club Ambiance is the place for you. If you can see past the small repair works that are needed at this hotel you will have a fantastic time, as we did!!!

“Loved the relaxing ambience”

Club Ambiance

Jun 11, 2008
2/3 found this review helpful

My husband and I stayed here from 25th may for 2 weeks. I booked this after reading the many positve reviews on trip advisor. I can echo every postive comment that has been made and couldn't really find any problems with the hotel at all. Anybody reading the reviews and then deciding to go will be well informed.

I could see my partner was concerned as we were the only ones off the whole plane that was dropped off at Club Ambiance. I am the one who does the trip advisor research so it didn't phase me. However, once he got beyond reception he was fine.

On booking I requested a quiet room and was allocated number 49 which was tucked in a corner past the pool. It was quiet, well equipped and very clean. The hairdryer didn't work and we mentioned this at reception and it was fixed by the time we got back to our room. The towels were changed daily. The air con wasn't that good but we managed. I think it was just a dated system. There was plenty of mirrors. The bed was enormous and the furnishings were new.

One night I got up and the bathroom was swarming with flying ants, however, I always take a can of spray to use in the room before going out on a night ,in case there are any mozzies so that sorted it. I was glad I had it with me though. There wasn't a real mozzie problem in comparison to other places.

I took a travel kettle but we didn't need it as there is access to tea and coffee in the restaurant area 24/7.

Someone asked on a forum about the use of straighteners. I took GHD's and they worked as quick there as at home.

We thought the food was very good. I've stayed in a lot of All Inc's
in many different places and the only better food in our opinion has been in the Maldives. We aren't fussy eaters and like to try anything, particularly local food. We both put weight on.

The choice of drinks was better than any where else we've been. I tried all the cocktails and enjoyed most of them. At home I only drink red wine. The wine there was, on the whole fine. A couple of times I was given wine that had gone off. I'm sure this was because the waiters uncork numerous bottles before dinner and whats left over goes back in a cupboard, which perhaps inevitably get left in there some time. However, when I asked for it changing it was no problem.

The staff were great. Extremely polite, happy and attentive. We never felt pressurised to tip. Although we did were we felt we'd had good service.

I thought the resort was smaller than I had expected. I think it's only an acre in total. I did feel a bit isolated because I have a phobia of water and most of the trips involved water. But this was a personal thing and people generally didn't find this an issue.
We spoke to people who were on their 14th, 9th and 6th time there. Many people go 3 or 4 times a year and were clearly very friendly with the staff who seemed genuinely glad to welcome them back.

We had a lot of rain while we were there, there was only 3 dry days out of 14 and sometimes it rained for 5 or 6 hours. We were up at around 6am each day and it tended to be hot and sunny generally between that time and around 1ish. We didn't take a brolly but could have done with one. We saw some spectacular thunder storms.

I was quite surprised that it was ok to drink the water and was a bit wary, as it goes against the advice of almost every where else, but I have to say it was absolutely fine. Neither of suffered any illness through the water or food and didn't hear of anybody else doing so either. The food temperature was constantly being monitored and I was impressed with the hygiene of the staff.

I wasn't keen on the pool area and preferred the beach area next to the nudist bit. Compared with other places I've been I didn't find it picturesque or even pretty. It was however relaxing and comfortable.

I went in the jacuzzi a few times. Sometimes it was very hot and other times it was more comfortable. I also had a massage which was very good and a 1hr full body massage was $50, so cheaper than it would be at home.

The entertainment was quite good and the staff seemed to really enjoy what they were doing.

The bar stopped serving promptly at 11pm but the disco took over and was open til around 3am. It is very hot in there and if there is air con it's not working very well. The music in there was varied and very good. Outside the disco the music is solely reggae. Lots of people were complaining about this !!

We travelled with Thomas Cook and the leg room was very good as was the plane food. The cabin staff were also very good.

The airport on arrival was chaotic and took ages to clear, however, the departures was extremely impressive and could rival any where else. We cleared it it in record time.

All in all we had a great a great time and felt totally relaxed and happy. We wouldn't go back because we like to see different parts of the world and experience different cultures. I also found the resort just too small, confined and isolated to make me want to go back. However, I can understand that these are some of the very reasons which draw people back time and time again.

I would certainly recommend this resort to anybody. One of the very best features is that it is adult only. We've had 6 kids, numerous grandchildren and both work with children so a child free environment was a welcome break, which we both enjoyed.

“Most amazing trip EVER”

Club Ambiance

5 of 5 stars
Richmond, VA

Before traveling to Club Ambiance I had only been to mega chain resorts in the US and Mexico so I was a little afraid of this small, somewhat older hotel. I shouldn't have worried. Yes, the resort is older and yes, it's smaller and not as grand as others you might pass on the way from the airport. But Ambiance was by far the best choice we could have made. From our first hour there the staff knew each of us by name, where we were from and that this was our first visit. They made a point to involve us in games and competitions and even made sure we had things to do during the rare downpours. Maria, Martino, Neil... These guys were the most amazing hosts and I was genuinely sad to leave them when my vacation was over.
The water was clear and calm, the man-made beaches (the only downside to the resort) were small but never crowded and always relaxing, and the staff was always around to make us feel like we belonged there.
Don't be mislead by bad reviews about sea snakes or poor accomidations or rude staff. Just go to Jamaica with an open mind and a laid back attitude and you will have the time of your life. And if you choose to go off the grounds on excursions, go with someone who really knows their way around and who will make sure you are well taken care of. A good way to do this is to make friends with the waitstaff on the first night. You will be completely taken care of for the rest of your stay.
Overall, this was the best week I've had in years. I am planning on returning next summer and hopefully I can stay for longer than one week!!
