Stayed here 1st week of January. Got an amazing deal. Air, hotel room(which turned out to be oceanview on a high floor) with breakfast dinner and drinks from 11am to 7pm all for less than $800CAD. No single supplement charge either!
Acapulco is one of the last cheap Mexican resorts out there. WalMart is directly across the street and there are many small cantinas for snacks and lunches nearby. It is about a 5 min. walk to the beach. The pool is small and to the side of the building so you only get full sun until about 4pm.
The hotel is a tad less than a 3 star. Rooms are "worn" but clean and the elevator was a little slow. Breakfast buffet was excellent. Dinner wasn't nearly as good. In fact, I passed on dinner at the hotel after my 1st experience. Great "Denny's style" place across the street was cheap and tasty.
You are at the far end of the "beach zone" toward the airport, next to the Hyatt. A few "sketchy" people around but otherwise safe. Acapulco will accept CAD at currency exchange and the rate was almost as good as US.
Many of the small cantinas offer lunch (ie 2 chicken tacos and a Corona) for about $6!
Nightclubs are expensive for guys. Usually about $50US to get in but then it's all you can drink. Ladies are usually free. Didn't encounter any time share sellers as is the norm in Cancun.
Not sure if it's as safe as it once was after recent issues with 2 Canadian travellers.
