Villa Las Anclas is an amazing place to stay. When we arrived, Pedro and Eyal met with us to tell us about restaurants and diving.

To reserve the room, you have to send them $100 by PayPal. Then pay them the remaining in cash when you arrive.

Pedro also owns the Blue Angel dive shop, so he gave us a ride every morning to the dive shop. It is very convenient to dive with their diveshop, since you can hitch a ride there in the morning. Blue Angel diveshop was terrific. The margaritas at the bar/restaurant above the diveshop were great. And they have excellent food there too. Rental scuba equipment was very high quality and well maintained.

Divemasters were great. They use small fast boats, so they get to the divesite quickly and with only 6-8 divers per boat.

The hotel rooms were clean and modern. Excellent air conditioning. Rooms have microwave, refrigerator, coffee pot and coffee, kitchen, iron, TV with cable and some movies in English.

For good cheap food, eat at the restaurant (really a house whose owner serves food) across the street from the hotel. For medium price, eat at the excellent Le Chef down the street from the hotel. And you can spend more and get an outstanding meal at La Veranda.

Pedro and Eyal seem to know everything about Cozumel, and they love to help make your stay great--we felt like we were staying with relatives! We will definitely be going back and staying at Villa Las Anclas.

This is a great property very close to the square in Cozumel. Although it takes a time or two up the spiral staircase to get used to the climb, it is like home away from home. There is no pool but a great garden courtyard area for morning coffee. Even though the property is very close to town it is quiet. The air conditioning works great and the kitchenette is a nice feature for those leftovers from dinner. There is no phone in the room, that is a good thing, and the cable is basic, not a bad thing either. We were in number 5 and I would ask for a room other than 5. It sounded like the water mechanism was located on the roof of 5 and it ran on and off during the night. Also, hide the remote to the air conditioner when leaving during the day. The maids turn the unit way up and it takes until midnight to get it cooled off again. Be sure and eat at Guidos, Casa Denis, and the ice cream shop around the corner! There is a parking lot next to the hotel to park your car for a small fee. It is safe!

My friends have been dving for years in Cozumel. They came upon this Villa a few years back and continue to go there every year. They have watched it get better and better. This was our first year to visit Cozumel for diving. We found the suites were wonderful. The rooms are well appointed and roomy. The air-conditioning was more than efficient. I had to turn it down and off a couple of nights. The hospitality is great! I found nothing wanting.

“No Better Place on Cozumel”

Having just returned from our fourth stay at Las Anclas, a friend asked me why we always stay at the same place. My answer was, "There is no better place on Cozumel."

The rooms are clean and comfortable with good A/C. The housekeeping is excellent. The gardens are a great place to hang out for "Happy Hour(s)". The dive gear rack and rinse are a nice feature for those that dive. Being able to walk a few minutes for a great meal at dozens of spots is a HUGE plus. The owners, Pedro and Eyal, are always happy to help in any way they can and they are a big part of the reason we return.

As others have said, the great rooms, lovely gardens, and all the other amenities provided all add up to a great stay, but it is the never-failing hospitality of Pedro and Eyal that make Las Anclas truly remarkable.

“Second Visit - still as good”

This is a great little, diver-friendly hotel with many repeating guests, which is recommendation enough but having just returned from Villa Las Anclas for the second time we thought it only fair this time to do a review and show what some of the few British visitors to the island think. It is difficult to find something others have not already said so do read through all the other reviews as well.

We love Cozumel and this hotel really helps. It is no surprise to us that Tripadvisors three top rated hotels on the island are all small 'independents'. Las Anclas is the only one of those near the centre of the town and in walking distance of everything you are likely to use and yet is pretty quiet for all that. There is certainly no nightime noise though you might be woken by the odd early morning cockerel or two!

The two storey ‘villas’ are simply enormous compared to your average hotel room, very light and clean with maid service and change of towels every day. With a good lounge area, 100 channel TV, kitchenette with sink, fridge, coffeemaker and microwave and fully tiled bathrooms with hairdryer and plenty of hot water (good water pressure too) what more can you want. Well there is an iron and ironing board for those that can’t live without it. There is wifi internet connection but if this is important to you ask for units 2 or 3 or sit in the garden which is a well planted, sometimes shady courtyard garden in which to sit an hour or two or the whole day if you wish. For divers there is a good gear drying area, with hose and hanging rail and lots of room in the villa when sorting out the gear. I suppose it’s not perfect but for us you really can’t beat it. The owners Pedro and Eyal live on site and are very involved and generous with their time.

I think all the Tripadvisors price indicators need some updating but at $100 a room low season and $120 in high we think they are good VFM as is the diving at $55 a two tank dive. For diving we have only used Blue Angel at Caribe Blu which is linked with the hotel and we like them and their dive guides and with their fast small boats if you get up for the 8.30 dive boat you will be back by lunchtime and with the rest of the day free for that post dive beer, best taken at the bar/restaurant over the dive shop.

One of the main attractions to the island is the quality of its restaurants. Everyone has their favourites and we would especially recommend 'Kinta' (newly opened and my favourite this year), La Veranda (beautiful outdoor gardens with this year an excellent spanish guitar playing Norwegian!), Le Cocay (gardens too and really well presented food), Le Chef (close to the hotel with food is as good but neither the setting nor the presentation is as pretty). There are plenty more to try.

We have no problem in recommending Hotel Villa Las Anclas and Cozumel as we know we will be coming here again and the hotel deserves a return to the no1 spot soon.
