We just got back from an excellent weekend trip to Toronto. We stayed at the Courtyard Toronto Airport for two nights (March 31st-April 2nd, 2007).
---Overview of Trip----
Making the Reservation: Since this was a last minute trip, we decided not to book a hotel room until after we arrived at the Toronto airport. We contacted the hotel at about 6pm local time, and got an excellent rate of $99 CAD/night.
Arrival at the Hotel/Check-in: The Courtyard has a very nice airport shuttle that runs from the Toronto Airport to the hotel about every 15 minutes. Check-in was extremely easy, and within five minutes of arriving, we were already going up to our room on the 7th floor.
The Room: We had a non-smoking, double bed room. The room was extremely clean and tidy--perhaps one of the cleanest rooms I've ever stayed in! The room itself was "typically Courtyard." The TV had around twenty channels, about half of which were exclusively Canadian.
The Beds: The beds were perhaps the worst part of the room. I couldn't sleep the first night because of how "springy" the bed was; in other words, you can feel each and every spring. Most of my family, too, complained of how uncomfortable the beds were. However, we fell alseep rather quickly on the second night, perhaps because we were all exhausted after a day of walking around Toronto, and perhaps because we had adjusted to the beds.
The Location: The hotel is located right next to the airport. From our room, you could watch airplanes as they took off and landed, which was really enjoyable. However, you can also hear each plane as it lands and takes off, and this goes on from 6am to around 11pm, which certainly can be a problem if you are a light sleeper. To get to downtown Toronto, it will take you about an hour using public transportation. First, you must take the airport shuttle back to the airport (~20 minutes). Then, you must get on a bus, the Airport Rocket, that will take you to Kipling Station (~15 minutes). Then, at Kipling, you must take the "green" subway line east to the St. George Stop (~30 minutes). Then, you must take the "yellow" subway line south to Union Station (~20 minutes). Although taking the subway is extremely cheap (it's $8 or so for a family all-day pass), it may just be easier to spend the $60 on a cab.
Restaurants: The hotel has its own restaurant that serves breakfast only. The buffet was very good, and costs around $15 per person. You can also walk over to the Airport Marriott, located within viewing distance of the Courtyard, and eat at its restaurants for lunch and dinner. I would not reccomend exploring other dining options in the area surrounding the Courtyard, as they seemed pretty sleazy.
Overall impression: The hotel was extremely decent for our short weekend trip. The hotel itself is great, but next time, I would probably choose a hotel that is closer to the downtown area.
