Have just returned from an experimental city break with two young kids in Frankfurt, staying at the Hotel Excelsior in Frankfurt. Was slightly apprehensive as I had seen some bad reviews although the majority were great. need not have worried. Although basic and in need of updating, the hotel was clean, comfortable and very good value for money. the hotel staff were excellent and very helpful. The room was simple but perfectly adequate for our needs, including a bunk bed for the kids. The bathroom was clean and functional, although not the largest but who cares as you don't spend time in the bathroom on a holiday! There was a free mini bar in the room that was a real bonus as it was filled with a selection of drinks (not spirits)daily. The free coffee and cake in the foyer was also a plus, as was the luggage room to keep our bags in after we had checked out and before we flew home. The breakfast included was great with a large range of food stuffs from scrambled eggs to smoked salmon and everything continental and german in between. It really set you up for the day. The only down side was the noise from the station opposite that does not stop at all and the rooms lacked air con and so were stuffy in hot weather but after walking the sites of Frankfurt we soon fell asleep! overall a simple but pleasing hotel that respresented good value for money
