“Great Hotel and Location”

Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney

Apr 9, 2008

We stayed at the Amora Jamison for 3 nights as the start of our honeymoon. We had a club level room on one of the top floors. The rooms were modern, clean and well appointed with pretty good views of the city. No views of the bridge or opera house though. We had access to the club room where we got drinks and nibbles every afternoon, complimentary tea and coffee anytime and also had breakfast there. We also had the choice of breakfast in the main restaurant which in our opinion is better as there is much more choice. We dont have any complaints with the Amora Jamison. The hotel is very nice, the service is of a high standard and the location is very close to shopping, circular quay and transport. The only tiny annoyance is the Tv, as it is positioned side on to the bed and not all that comfortable to watch while in bed. I would reccommend this hotel to anyone and we would return again.

I stayed here for one night and conducted some meetings in this hotel. I wouldn't say it is up to five star standard, some of the staff seem to have trouble grasping english and the design of the rooms is a little weird.

I had a room on the 14th floor with a balcony. The bed was huge and comfy and the bathroom was immaculate but for some silly reason the TV is at the side of the bed so you can't lay in bed and watch it without getting a sore neck or laying sideways across the bed.

In terms of meeting facilities, they are good and the restaurant for lunch is fantastic but when there is a large conference on in the ballroom, it gets very cramped in the area outside the meeting rooms and noisy.

Location wise it is an easy walk down to Circular Quay and the Opera House. There is a maccas across the road if you don't want to pay $33 for breakfast.

“Not quite 5 star”

Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney

I stayed in a brilliant room on the 14th floor - it was large, well decorated, clean, very comfy bed, and unbelievably, a balcony!! It was great. So why wasn't it quite 5 star (as advertised on wotif.com)? Limited channel choice, in room breakfast was a bit on the stingy side, there was an out of date Vogue magazine to read, no map in the top drawer (as stated in the compendium) and my morning newspaper was nowhere to be seen.

So, all in all, this is a lovely hotel in a handy location, but the attention to detail (those things that mark a great hotel from the rest) wasn't evident. I would stay here if you can can get a great price.

I had a mixed experience at the Amora recently. They wouldn't check me in, even though I was only 15 minutes early. My room was nicely decorated but the blinds had holes and frayed edges and the tv was very old and stashed in a cupboard.. Good selection of free channels though. Bathrooms were very nice too. Lift lobbies throughout the building were very nice, although the ground floor lobby and bar on the mezzanine were very dated. Service was slow, and often disinterested. All of this would have been fine but it was quite expensive, and I have had much better experiences elsewhere for less. It was ok, but I would definitely look elsewhere if I went back to Sydney.

Poor check-in, unfriendly staff, didn't clean room well, 3 days without replenishing the mini-bar, complained and nothing improved. Poor location for getting a taxi, especially on a Friday night and don't expect much from the concierge or front desk staff who are too important and busy to concern themselves with their "guests' welfare.

Not worth the room rate. Starting to look a bit shabby in certain areas including the rooms.

Room service food quality was quite poor. Breakfast elsewhere would have been a better option.

I can't think of anything particularly positive to say about the hotel other than writing an awful review of it gives me some pleasure!
