“Great Hotel, great location”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

5 of 5 stars
Wasco, IL
Jul 14, 2008

I travel frequently to DC for business, but this trip was for sight-seeing and pleasure. The Homewood is a terrific hotel in a very good location. The staff was always cordial, the hotel was always clean, and while the morning breakfast was not as good as most Embassy Suites (where I normally stay), it was still pretty good. At night, there was also food and free drinks on Monday through Thursdays; all in all a very good deal.

As far as location, it is at Thomas Circle on the NW side, about 3 to 4 blocks to a couple different Metro lines (Red or Blue/Orange) while the Green/Yellow lines are a little farther. Of course, it is very simple to switch lines at the stations which cross. You can catch the Blue line at National Airport and get out 4 blocks from the Homewood in 22 minutes for about 3 1/2 bucks. The National Mall is about a 20 minute walk if you want some exercise.

Many good restaurants/grills/ taverns close by, also a Whole Foods 4 blocks away. Check the "ThaiTanic" on 14th street; corny name, outstanding Thai food reasonably priced for DC.

If you are looking for a place with a suite and a small kitchen, this is it.

“Helpful front desk makes for a nice stay”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

Louisiana
Jul 12, 2008

I was somewhat nervous reading the mixed reviews, most of which were less than complimentary of the front desk. Our experience was exactly the opposite. Entrance was a little difficult to find, but the front desk clerk checked us in, gave us some restaurant choices for the evening within walking distance (even pulled out the menus for us to check out), and helped us finalize our route to Union Station the next morning. Having the washer & dryer was definitely handy though they were constantly busy. We used the fitness room & enjoyed the morning breakfast. Thanks Homewood for making us feel at home!

“At Home at Homewood!”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

5 of 5 stars
CA, MAriposa

5/5 found this review helpful

My family stayed at Homewood Suites June 6th thru the 14th.

Front Desk & Check-in.:
Steve at front counter was awesome! Our check-in was smooth without problems! Any questions we had were always answered acurately. The staff at this place "Rocks"

Our Room:
Very, Very Clean! AND COMFORTABLE!!!!! We had a king bedroom that had double doors opening into a living area and kitchen. The Bedding was very comfortable & clean, we had a TV in the bedroom, a vanity area with a sink. The Bathroom was seperate from vanity with the toliet and tub/shower encloser. The Living area had a TV, Sleeper Sofa, leather chair & ottoman. My daughter 13 slept on the sofa bed and said it was quite comfortable. The kitchen had a full size fridge/freezer, microwave, 2 burner stove, dishwasher, coffee pot, toaster, misc. pots pans & dishes, with a 2 person counter area for eating. The other thing I must mention is this was the quietest hotel I have ever stayed at! We stayed on the 7th floor, and I think our room number was 709....no view!

Meals @ Homewood:
Again they have another employee named Steve who runs the meal service and he is the Bomb! (must be the name! lol!)
Breakfast:
Each day they offered a breakfast that included the following: Cereal, Oatmeal, Pancakes, Waffles, Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Potatoes, Donuts, Crossants, muffins, bagels, variety of breads for toasting, biscuits & Gravy, fresh whole fruits, diced melons, diced citruis, yogurt, granola bars, pastries, & juices (apple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice) milk, coffee, tea, hot coco. There was more just can't remember it all! Breakfast was available daily from 7 am to 9 am.
Managers Dinner:
Monday thru Thursday they had a managers dinner served from 5-7 pm. We took advantage of this and ate there all 4 days. The menu is different everyday without repeats and is posted on your fridge in your room. We had the following while we were there: Mon-Stuffed Bell Peppers, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans
Tues-Hamburgers, French Fries
Wed-Lasange, Garlic Bread, Green Beans
Thur- NY Style Sub Sandwhichs, chips
In addition to the main course they always had: Beer, Wine, Sodas, Milk, Juice, Desserts, Salad Bar, Bread/Roll, and what ever condiments you needed for your main entree.
Food was good tasting and met all of our needs....especially helping cut costs for our stay!

Location:
You are a few blocks from the McPherson Metro Station. We walked there and used the metro primarily for all our getting around needs. You can purchase a weeks ticket for
$25. +/-. The Metro took us to every destination we wanted to visit including Arlington. Always felt safe walking!
There are several nice places to eat within walking distance front desk can give you a list and directions. The "Thai Tantic" was an excellent choice for us!
There is a whole foods around within a block or so for any groceries to supply your room with. You can provide the front desk with a list and they will purchase and deliver to your room for no charge other than cost of groceries.

Attractions Visited:
Smithsonians - Museum of Natural History
National Museum of Air & Space

Favorites Included:

Air Museum out at Dulles, (they had the space shuttle Enterprise, as well as the Enola Gay)

The Washington Monument Trip to the top (Make sure you go early in the morning to get tickets as they are usually gone by 8:30 am. Cost is free!

Holocaust Museum - Our daughter has read a lot and is very interested, she was able to meet a some survivors from Auschwitz who showed her their tattoosfrom Auschwitz. Another survivor was there doing a book signing. The room with all the shoes was very moving.

Newseum- Had a section of the Berlin Wall, the door from the Watergate break-in, and what remain of one of the twin towers Antenas from 911. The observatory deck views are Amazing(Must do a lot of readin though, not for little ones.)

Weather:
Weather in DC Very VERY Hot Hot Hot! And Humidty was terrible! But you spend most of your time in very nice airconditioned museums! Just walking between buildings and to & from the metro, along with walking the monuments.

Check out:
Smooth...we ordered a pickup the night before at the front dest, they had a car (Town car) very Nice!!!! take us to the airport for the same cost of a taxi! The driver even stopped for us to take a picture of the Iwo Jima Memorial that we had not had time to visit.
We also found out that you can hire these cars for tours of the onuments at night. Just ask the front desk to arrange for you....much cheaper then the $30 per person night tour and you are on your own time schedule. (I think the desk said it was $45 per hour)

This place is worth evrey penny we paid and then some! The staff makes it there business to know you by name and to meet all of your needs! They make the place! We will defenitely stay here again and would reccomend to all!

“Homewood Suites Washington Review”

Homewood Suites in DC provides a family friendly, conveniently located experience. A pleasant surprise for us was the free buffet breakfast AND dinner Monday through Thursdays. The staff is unbelievably pleasant and happy to serve. The free dinner buffet also offers beer and wine and a very comfortable atmosphere. In fact, the staff goes out of the way to make your experience pleasant. In terms of location, the hotel is a ten minute walk from a Metro station, within minutes of a 24 hour CVS, and tourist attractions are about a 15-20 minute walk. A wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

“good location”

Homewood Suites Washington, DC

Jun 30, 2008

Stayed 1 night- 6/28 as stop over from Myrtle Beach to CT.
Very good customer service. Room very clean and plenty of room.
Thought $25 valet parking was high but check out was noon and we were able to leave car in garage for another 5 hrs with no add'l fee.
5 blocks from White House(easy walk). We did that walk and walked to Lincoln,WW11, Vietnam Memorials as well as Washington Monument then over to Smithsonian Bldgs.
Would stay again without hesitating
