We stayed at the Candy Inn for 5 nights in April as part of our Disneyland trip. The rooms were clean, cool and quiet. The grounds are beautiful, with flowers, palm trees and birds. The breakfast was very good.

It is an easy 10 minute walk to the front entrance of Disneyland and you don't even have to cross any big streets. There is a 7-11 close by and lots of food choices if you want to eat out of the park.

We had a great trip. If you want just one piece of advice about Disneyland, stay close to the park. It really is worth it.

“The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly”

Candy Cane Inn

The Good:
Location --- The hotel is located within easy walking distance to Disneyland, it took us about 11-12 minutues to walk from our room to the park entrance. The hotel also has a shuttle bus that drops off and picks up every half an hour on the hour. We ended up only using the bus one morning to go there. From the bus dropoff it is a five minute walk to the park entrance.

Service ---
The service was generally good. We arrived early and we able to check into our room at 1:00 p.m., about two hours before check-in is typically permitted. The staff seemed friendly and were at about as helpful as you could expect at a motel.

Appearance (Outside) --- The exterior appearance of the property was much better than the surrouding properties mostly in part to the enhanced landscaping. The property is well landscaped with vines growing on the walls and relatively mature trees around the pool area. In addition, the driveway and parking lot areas are covered it cobbles, which is a signifcant improvement over standard concrete or ashpalt surfaces. The pool area is attactactive and centrally located in the middle of the property.

Appearance (Inside) --- The room was an average size and the decor was on the upper end of motel furnishings. I would say that the queen beds were on the small side, I know there are different types of queen beds and these were not the largest.

Food --- The continental breakfast was just right for my family. The breakfast includes cereal, bagels, donuts, toast, fruit, juices, and coffee. The breakfast did not offer pancakes, waffles, omlettes, etc. The seating area(s) for the breakfast include a small indoor area and the area adjacent to the swimming pool. Depending on what time you eat you may have trouble finding seating. A new shopping center is also in the process of opening on Katella Street, just east of Harbor Boulevard (5 minute walk from the motel). The center includes some upscale restaurants including McCormick and Schmidts and Roy's. A Cheesecake Factory and Bubba Gumps are also in the same area.

The Bad and the Ugly
Noise --- I would like to preface this discussion by saying that my wife and I are not oversensitive to noise or other minor inconveniences when we travel. That being said, the amount of noise we experienced during the nights in our room is unacceptable and for that reason alone we will not be staying here again. The problem is not people being noisy, but the type of construction used for the motel and the close proximity of the rooms to the parking area. By the way, our room (#133) was location on the first floor towards the rear of the property. On our first night as we were going to sleep (10:30 p.m or so), the kids above us on the second floor starting running back and forth on the second floor walkway for an hour, the noise was very annoying and made impossible to sleep. On the second night a group of kids was hanging out in the parking lot area talking late into the evening and the noise just permeated into the room, again making it difficult to sleep. In a modern hotel or motel these types of noises would generally not penetrate the rooms. My guess is that the type of wall construction combined with the air conditioning units being located on the front walls allows noise to easily enter the rooms. Finally, on the our last night, we came back from the park and got ready for bed, turned on the television with the volume on the low side. A few minutes later the elderly women next door knocks on our door to say that we are being too noisy and to keep it down, we were barely making any noise at all, especially compared to the ruckus of the previous nights. I turned off the television to go to bed and what do I hear, the women next door on her telephone talking with a friend and I can hear what they are saying, and she was speaking in a normal tone of voice. My college dorm wasn't even this noisy to sleep in. Perhaps the rooms on the second floor don't have the same noise issues as the first floor rooms at the Candy Cane Inn.

So, everything about the property was above average to good with the exception of the noise issue, and unfortunately that is too big an issue to ignore.

Thank you for your many positive comments and I sincerely apologize for the noise that you encountered while a guest with us. We are a family property and strive for total guest satisfaction and maintaining a peaceful environment at all times. This being said we certainly thank any guest for bringing to our attention any noise complaint so we may have our security personnel immediately address the issue. Children and adults alike at times tend to discuss their day’s enjoyment while on vacation and not always understand how this noise travels in the still of the night. We will certainly take your comments to heart so that our guests rest comfortably each and every night.

I booked the Candy Cane Inn for 5 days in May with my two children ages 10 and 12 based solely on the positive reviews stated here. At the time, there were virtually no negative reviews posted. I wish I could add another glowing review, but unfortunately, I can't.

The positives:
The beds were wonderful, with thick mattresses and even thicker pillows.

The grounds were gorgeous, with cobblestone driveway and abundant plant life.

The pool area was beautiful and fluffy towels were provided at poolside, which was so helpful.

The location to the park was perfect and the free shuttle was prompt and very clean.

The negatives:

The beds were advertised as having down comforters...this was simply not true. In their place were very unattractive polyester coverlets. Very disappointing.

The "in wall" AC in the room smelled musty.

The carpet had stains near the restroom and vanity area.

I upgraded to the premium" room for the in-room breakfast and the turn down service, as well as the free video rental each day.

Unfortunately, the breakfast was missing items 3 out of the 5 days we visited (it would have been just as well to go to the beautiful pool area to get breakfast and bring it back to the room).

The turn down service was simply that...they pulled back the sheets on the beds and left a breakfast order form. Nothing special.

The video rentals were outdated VHS tapes. Nothing special there either.

I was told the rooms were all about the same size. Our room was adequate, but not large at all.

I ended up paying around $170 per night for the premium room and then they added another $20 or so to each night at check out in taxes and fees. It was not worth that high of price.

It's an adorable little place, but technically not worth the price compared to other more well appointed hotels in the area.

We thank you for staying with us and appreciate your comments, be they positive as well as negative you have posted. If we say that we do not listen to our guests that would certainly not be the case and I sincerely appreciate the time you have taken to respond. In response to our down comforters, we are in the middle of a soft goods upgrade and are moving towards lighter and brighter fabrics and colors. I do thank you for your opinion and while we strive to make everyone happy the industry is moving to the lighter sleek look. We will be installing new carpets in all guestrooms later this summer and fall and have just changed out our VCR’s to a new combination VCR/DVD players and will continue to update our movies. Again, thank you for the comments….we listen!

We enjoyed our three night stay at the Candy Cane during the Memorial Weekend. Nearby Disneyland and California Adventure was packed so it was really nice to come home to this cozy place after a long day at the parks.

Complimentary breakfast was great compared to the other hotels we stayed in during our US tour.

Front desk staff was very helpful.

Only problem was wifi signal was weak at the back rooms since the inn still does not have a business center.

My family and I stayed at the Candy Cane Inn during our recent 5 day trip to Disneyland. We were very pleased with the level of service we received. Every staff member we dealt with was polite, helpful, and professional. Our room was neat and clean, with everything in good repair. The continental breakfast was well stocked, with a good variety of items. They even had peanut butter (a really nice touch when you have two 6-year olds). The shuttle was dependable, and drivers were friendly and helpful. It was so nice knowing we had a ride to and from the park. The front desk staff were extremely friendly, and really went out of their way to help us when my daughter became ill during our stay. We have stayed at other properties in the Disneyland area, and can certainly understand why the Candy Cane Inn gets such good ratings. We hope to return soon!
