Excellent - apparently a 4 star but could definitely compete with the best of the 5 stars and for the price - we paid <£90 per night must be the best value in Bangkok
Best hotel stayed in in Asia by far. Rooms have super views of the river and the city - ask for a room on floors 20 and above facing South and you will spend hours just watching the activities on the river and the river bank. Only small complaints is internet is expensive as is breakfast.
Rooms - can't complain about anything here, big windows, good size, comfy bed and new. Bathroom new with great power shower.
Reception - e-mail ahead with room request and they will do their best to act on it. Helpful with directions and local info
Boat - free boat to either Skytrain terminal or River City every 10mins or so is useful
Restaurant - ground floor, great setting - ask for a la carte menu if not keen on the £20 buffet.....very reasonable for a hotel restaurant - thai dishes at £5
Bars - Skybar on top floor - superb views of the city, live jazz music and cocktails at £6-£8 not bad for the setting. There's also a bar on the 3rd floor which doubles up as a night club....quite empty but nice for a change.
Pool - infinity pool is awesome, staff great, snacks reasonably priced
Bangkok in general -
- watch for the addition of up to 15% to any prices in menus (taxes etc)
- buy a 1 day river pass from Skytrain terminal - £2 (120baht) for unlimited rides up and down the river for the day - most sites can be visited from the river bank stations (map provided with ticket)
- taxi drivers will try and rip you off - be firm and pay no more than 500 or 600 baht for taxi from airport (depending on whether you have car or minivan) and make sure this includes the tolls and surcharge
- dont buy the concierge/travel agent tours - you can do the tour yourself for about 1/4 of the price or if you really wanted to go on an organised tour, there are booths at the Skytrain station who use the same tour companies and charge half the price
- river kwai trips - can be done yourself by going to the Nualampong train station and buying a ticket in advance (a few days notice needed) - not the most luxurious way of travelling but will cost less than £3 return
Will defintiely return to this hotel!
