Jen and I had a terrific day out on the Simba Sea Trip. We were picked up from our accommodation in a luxurious minibus and taken to the Phuket Marina. There we met Jeff and his crew. Imagine you had an uncle/brother/friend who happened to own a beautiful powerboat and took you for a day of sightseeing. That’s what our day was like. We were welcomed aboard the Italian designed, Thai built Simba and off we went to explore the unique seascape of Phang Nga. Cold water and soft-drinks were supplied all day, and Jeff took pains to make sure everyone was happy and knew what was going on. We visited a sea cave, then had morning tea of exotic fruit and banana cake on a secluded beach, then off to James Bond Island, ate a beautiful lunch at the floating Muslim village, where we also toured the school, medical clinic and mosque and had time for some market shopping. After lunch we went sea-canoeing into ocean caves and grottos, then to another remote beach for a swim. To sit on a beach with the jungle behind you and eat fresh sandwiches and sweet pineapple is a simple experience we will always remember.
Jeff limits the number of passengers on his boat, we had 13 on our day. This was in contrast with some of the bigger boats we saw where the people were being herded like, well, tourists!
The run for home was at full speed. The men were up the front to help keep the bow down, and we all felt like millionaire playboys!
We didn’t get to meet Jenny this trip, but her banana cake was lovely. Thanks Jeff, crewmen Ten and Bob, and guide Nancy for a great day out.
