“Too expensive for remote location”

Holiday Inn Temple of Heaven

The previous reviews mentioning the location were on the money, this place is remote. Without Chinese I think it would be impossible to get to/from this hotel. No taxi drivers knew the hotel even when I showed them the card, every driver had to call to get directions. Furthermore the traffic is so bad in Beijing that location is key. There are other international brands that have much better locations for the same price.

The hotel itself is fine, the service is fine, the rooms are fine, the food is fine. Nothing great. My key complaint is the cost, it is simply too expensive for how average it is and how out of the way.

My family and I stayed here for several nights while sightseeing in Beijing. The hotel is clean, the staff professional and the price a bargain (I booked at the Holiday Inn website). Although not in the center of the city, a taxi ride to Wangfujing costs only about 20 yuan (and there are plenty of taxis), and bus 803 goes directly there from a stop immediately behind the hotel for just 1 yuan. My children loved the fairly large indoor pool. The hotel's dinner buffet left something to be desired, but there are plenty of decent Chinese restaurants right out the door. I will definately stay here again when in Beijing.

the Temple of Heaven hotel is approximately 10 minutes drive south of the Temple of Heaven attraction. Its' located in a residential area but has a nearby supermarket (signposted outside the hotel) and restaurants within a few hundred yards. I don't know if the supermarket had any English speakers.

The hotel facilities are of conference standard. The desk staff have enough english for their job but didn't seem able to deal with queries that weren't absolutely specific. I had a query about a phone message which was left for me. Even showing my piece of paper failed at first to elicit a reply: though I was impressed by the sudden decision to ring the mobile number on my paper for me.

The two restaurants were *excellent* for their evening meals and also the breakfast menu which covered both western and Chinese foods.

We had to have breakfast extra early a couple of times and the staff were willing to provide some dishes of both Western and Chinese at that hour. The staff were eagle eyed and attentive and as a visually impaired person they quickly remembered I needed a bit of help to carry my soup dishes to my table. None of the staff spoke fluent English by any means which may be a problem with the Olympics.

My room was comfortable, though the smart card I had wasn't infallible by any means and I needed help from fellow guests once or two. Their smart card key had to be swiped down and it didn't seem to locate positively at all. One also has to be aware of 'turning on' the electronic lighting system on arrival. My UK guide failed to explain this to us : maybe its standard in Holiday Inn hotels and didn't need explaining, but I am a notice to hotels.

Great idea to have small radios in the room. Reception was a little on the difficult side: even though I was listening to China Radio International whose studios are in BeiJing, though I did manage to live with the quality for the first 3 nights. On our return on the final night of our holiday we were in an 'annexe' and the radio reception was appalling.

The TV really should have better instructions for its use. It seems to be that its assumed that everyone owns their own TV. Well, I don't and I had to ask one of my fellow travelling companions if there was any problem with reception because I had a real problem turning the set on. Once I did I was most impressed with the range of channels in Chinese and English language.

The hotel shop had an interesting range of goods but the staff had minimal english skills even for their jobs. Considerably less than the desk staff.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel as part of our Classic China Tour with Travelscope (50 group members). The hotel was excellent, very clean, the rooms were very luxurious, and the staff were wonderful. I sent a fax to my mother (she is very deaf so it is my only way of communicating) and it was dealt with immediately and for a very low price. My laundry was handed in at 0800 and was returned, washed, ironed and on hangers at 4pm - again for a very reasonable price.

I have to follow a gluten free diet, and breakfasts can be difficult, but I was spoilt for choice here, there was so much food of every variety on offer - I certainly did not feel hungry!!

If I am ever lucky enough to go back to this wonderful city, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Very very good value and very helpful friendly staff.

“great value, excelent location”

We stayed for only 50€ including breakfast, and for this money it is the best choice in Beijing. The hotel has a beautiful lobby and restaurant, very comfy and the room, although smallish is well apointed and nice.
We also stayed at the Westin and the location of the Holiday Inn is much better. We went walking to the Temple of Heaven, about 20 min. through a very interesting street. It is also not far from the forbidden city and the silk market.
It is more than enough if you are looking for a 5star without high-end luxus and service.
