We arrived in a Thunderstorm amidst the worst rain on record for this area. Luckily the Taxi was able to pull into the area to the rear of the Hotel entrance to let us out. The Staff were very helpful and by the time we had checked in at reception, which was on the first floor, our bags were outside our rooms. A small problem with the keycards but that was soon sorted. The rooms, on the 8th floor, were a bit small for a 10 night stay but were clean and the bed was comfortable. The side harbour view was as expected albeit the continual downpour dimmed the views somewhat. The room was cleaned everyday and the sheets and towels were changed daily too. The Bathroom was tidied daily but was not mopped out daily as I would have liked.
It was good to have a mini bar fridge in the room, which I used to store water and stuff, which the hotel did not seem to mind.
The buffet breakfast was more than adequate with a wide choice of food. (HK$140)
There are 3 lifts that I knew about, only one of which went to the pool which was outside on rear of the hotel. Poolside loungers and mattresses were provided as you arrived, as were towels.
When we checked out we were able to leave our luggage with the bell hops and when ready to leave for the airport they were most helpful in hailing a cab for us and loading our luggage.

“Best place to stay on the Island”

Island Pacific Hotel

A terrific place: a real find. Rooms are bigger than average for HK and many have a fantastic view over the harbour. Once you've found it for the first time, it's easy to use the tram to and from anywhere central on the island side. Staff are really friendly and helpful, right from concierge, front desk and all areas.
The evening buffet can be a bit of a scrum but if you head downstairs to the bar, you can order a la carte and prices are still reasonable. There are a few places to eat nearby - cross the main road (mind the trams) and head uphill into the back streets. And if you're on a budget, you can't beat the rates here.

“Certainly not "Central"”

Island Pacific Hotel

May 30, 2008

Booked the Island Pacific primarly for the price through BA (less than £300 for 7 nights). I had been concerned about the location of the hotel but was reassured by the reviews on Tripadvisor.

This hotel is definitely not in Central but you can walk (briskly) to the nearest MTR station, Sheung Wan, in about twelve minutes and the tram stop is just along from the hotel. There are plenty of inexpensive buses passing right outside the hotel going all over Hong Kong island: Central Ferry Piers, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Aberdeen and Stanley. Taxis are cheap - $30HK (£2) to Central and $20HK (£1.40) to Hollywood Road/ Soho area. So there is no real issue with accessibilty to or from this hotel's location.

Des Voeux Road West is the the Dried Fish Market area in HK. Whilst it did whiff, I did not find the smell to be overpowering or sickening. The surrounding area is a predominately Chinese neighbourhood so don't expect a Starbucks nearby! But there are a range of local Chinese restaurants, banks, 7-11s and supermarkets to hand.

The hotel itself was perfectly acceptable and good value for the price (NB would not pay the hotel's rack rate or even internet special rate for here). The reception, housekeeping and door staff were very helpful and friendly. My room was compact but not too small, clean and tidy though the decor was rather tired (superior room with partial harbour view). The bed was on the hard side but that is not usual for Asia.

All in all, I had a very enjoyable stay at the Island Pacific and would not hesitate to recommend to friends or family.

“More than a great hotel”

Island Pacific Hotel

May 28, 2008

We stayed at Island Pacific for 3 nights. We found it by internet and it was an emergency option until our previous booked hotel had free rooms, but It was better than we expected and we stayed here all the nights we were going to be in Hong Kong. The staff is extremely considerate and helpful. The hotel is very clean and nice and view from the room is amazing!

We booked a standard room and we were upgraded to an executive room. The room was big, nice, comfortable and the hotel was very quiet at night. Rooms have dark curtains to stop morning light, this is important because the window is really big. The bathroom is large and clean.

Although the hotel is a bit far of the center, you can find a free shuttle every each half an hour to a subway station, but the taxi is so cheap that we used the shuttle once. Moreover is close to Macau Ferry Habour, and this was great because we wanted to visit Macau too.

It has been very pleasant to enjoy the pool and there are several really good and cheap chinese restaurants close to the hotel. The hotel has it's own reataurant, but we didn't experience it.

“you get what you pay”

Island Pacific Hotel

This is a standard 3 star hotel, nothing more and nothing less. The lobby is a nice average hotel lobby (if that's important to you) however the rooms are quite dated and very basic. If you are on a low budget and just need a place to stay for, this is a good choice. However the location is not ideal, as it is out of the city centre and no tube station is close. Therefore you either walk to the MTR (15 min walk) or you take the tram which is almost round the corner.
We booked a Deluxe Room for a slightly higher rate than a standard room. I am still trying to figure out what the "deluxe" actually was. We were promised a habour view room, which we indeed got however at the same time we had a view on the 6 lane motorway.
To cut a long story short, it is a clean very basic hotel, with friendly staff but with no thrills.
