“Fantastic Service and Great Value!”

Stayed in wooden room #20. Excellent value and very clean. The property is beautiful but the one caveat we have is the traffic noise which we didn't see mentioned by other reviewers, so it was a surprise. The best thing about the Tegal Sari is the staff. They are very friendly and efficient and can't do enough for you. We never had to wait long for their free shuttle service. We took the trek and cooking class that they offer and would recommend both. We could only book 4 nights as they were full so we switched to Greenfield Bungalows next door for the next 2 nights. It's a lot quieter but more expensive and the service not so good.
Restaurants we recommend are 3 Monkeys, Cafe Wayan, Murni's and although expensive, we highly recommend an evening at Mosaic. Nomad we found too noisy.

“Great - except for the paper thin walls...”

I stayed here with a friend of mine in early June 2008. She had never been to Bali before and I wanted to show her life away from the Kuta Beach area.

I picked Tegal Sari because of its top rating on TripAdvisor and am quite happy that I did. The rooms themselves are beautifully traditional and comfortable – we tried to book a Wooden Room but it looks like this place is booked well in advance, so we ended up getting a Superior Twin Room which cost us the equivalent of AUD$25 per night (great value!).

The room was lovely and large. The beds were extremely comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water to shower with (after 6 days in Indonesia with nothing but cold salty water, this was a huge thing for us!).

The staff were wonderfully attentive and went out of their way to help us – whether this be organising our laundry for us, arranging tours, or driving us in to Seminyak. We couldn’t fault them.

Breakfast was included in our rate and I’m still trying to recreate the banana pancakes that I had both mornings – again, the restaurant staff were great and our meals were wonderfully fresh.

One of the nicest things about Tegal Sari was undoubtedly the view from our balcony, which looked out on to beautifully green gardens and rice paddies.

Our stay at Tegal Sari was thoroughly relaxing. The accommodation was close enough to the town centre to be able to walk everywhere, especially to the Monkey Forest, and the settings were perfectly suited to the serenity that is Ubud.

My only gripe was with the paper thin walls – unfortunately, we had a young family staying in the room next to us, and were waken up by screaming children at dawn both mornings. Still, things like that can’t be helped...so I guess it was a minor glitch in an otherwise great stay!

It is true! Tegal Sari is truly wonderful and an amazing value. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We stayed for a week and wish we had booked longer. The location is beautiful with the views of the rice paddies. We spent the first five days in a superior room which was both comfortable and spotless and we were fortunate to spend our last few nights a the wooden room which was like something out of a dream vacation magazine at a fraction of the cost. The next time and there will be a next time we will book earlier and spend the whole time in Ubud and the wooden room at Tegal Sari. It was our 3rd visit to beautiful Bali and without a doubt our best.

“Nice stay - but overrated by this site!”

Yes, we had a good stay and yes it is a nice hotel with good views on the rice paddies.

Good value - however the standard rooms didn't really have a good bathroom (not to clean). If you have the choice book a more expensive room!

Thoroughly pleasant stay. Staff was unfailingly polite and friendly (though true of about everyone we met in Bali), room was comfortable. Internet connection was lousy, though. Only available in the restaurant, and was very slow. We organized pickup by the hotel from the airport. No brainer, as it's the same cost as a taxi.
