This is a gem of a place. Centrally located, but in a tranquil area. Our room was very well appointed and the promised view of Table Mountain was there. The Management and staff were extremely friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble, an element that made our stay even more enjoyable. Recommendations for restaurants/activities were top notch and not found to be wanting. The staff know their stuff!

Derwent House is nothing short of an oasis in what can be a travelling/accommodation desert. We would not hesitate to stay there again during any future visits to this city.

“Can't fault Derwent House”

We plumped for Derwent House having looked at a lot of other hotels in Cape Town – and found it even better than we expected. Even before we arrived Carol had sorted out a wine tour with driver for us – which was absolutely fantastic. She also gave us tips on where to eat (all were very good – but especially don’t miss Savoy cabbage) and although we had ideas of what we wanted to do their tips helped us to do some great things we would have missed otherwise.

The hotel is in a great location – you can walk to loads of fantastic restaurants on Kloof and nearby (but be aware – it is hilly). The hotel itself is very stylish (both the main spaces and the rooms), but comfortable too. The downstairs area is great for chilling out in, and the little touches (breakfast included, free tea & coffee whenever you want, reasonably priced honesty bar) make all the difference. In fact when we tried to think if there was anything they could do better we couldn’t come up with a thing.

All in all Carol & Jo have created a fantastic little hotel – if you stay there you won’t be disappointed.

“(Luxury) Home away from home.”

Not much new I can add to the other reviews, this place is great. It doesn't really feel like a hotel, more like a home away from home (albeit a lot cleaner and with a few more luxuries!).

This is a great hotel with a terrific ambience, comfortable rooms and great staff. It's just a 5 minute walk to good selection of restaurants on Kloof street and a short drive up the hill to table mountain. It's also a great starting point for accessing the cape and the Constantia vineyards.

If I'm ever back in Capetown it will be number 1 on my list of hotel options.

“Over the top hospitality!”

Derwent House Boutique Hotel

Jun 7, 2008

This is one of the finest guest houses in a city that has many that exceed international standards. The owners offer unmatched hospitality, warmth, and advice in a setting that is both stylish and welcoming. The pool and courtyard setting are lovely and the neighborhood is pleasant and convenient to restaurants and Cape Town's many beautiful sights. They were extraordinarily helpful to me in arranging a car and driver for tasks that I needed to do in the townships. Breakfast was super and beautifully served. This place has my highest recommendation!
