After reading some past reviews, we were a little worried as to what we would find when we got there, unfortunatly it was pouring with rain when we got there! but we got a warm welcome and the porter gave us a welcome drink and then ran our cases with us following to our rooms, which was fairly basic, but had air con, and it is really only somewhere to sleep and shower etc.
The buffet was one of the best we have been to, the selection was fantastic and it was always very hot food, none of us ate the salad as you cant be sure that it has been cleaned in ok water, and none of us suffered from upset tummies! we didnt try any other resturants as the buffet had different food every night.
The bars are great, we didnt have a problem with the closing times, although some people might, but when you get properly made cocktails, not like some hotels that come out of a machine, or ice cold beer, or ,as i would recommend the rum and coke! you cant complain, and the bar staff are all lovely. you also have acess to ice cold water all day from any of the bars or the buffet, we also had a drinking water fountain near our room.
There are plenty of sunloungers around 3 lovely pools, and on the terraces, the only downside was there wasnt enough shade, and the shade we found had us under palm trees and unfortunalty we did find ourselves pooped on by some of the birds that are present on the complex!! although this wasnt very nice it did mean that there wasnt a large amount of nasty insects as the birds were eating them all!
I was a tad worried that the entertainment staff would constantly be trying to get you to join in with the activities that are on during the day, as i dont like to partake, and like to tan, read and swim, but they didnt, theyd ask you and if you said no thanks, theyd leave you alone, which was really nice.
overall it was a fantastic relaxing week, with great food and lovely drinks, i would recommed the casa marina beach to anyone after a lovely sun drenched, relaxing holiday!
great value for money!!!!

“Terrible place to stay”

My family traveled to the Dominican Rep. May 2008 and they stayed at Marina Beach Resort. It was a group of 7 and they all came back feeling like they had been robbed. Amenities: The bathrooms were fifthly, the rooms, while not dirty, smelled extremely bad. The is no entertainment past 11 p.m. because the bars are closed at that time. The disco is opened at 11 p.m., however the drinks are not included in the package so if you want a beer, glass of water, etc. you have to pay. The food was ok, however don't even think that you'll find seafood at this place. If you like mediocre service than this is the place for you, otherwise please don't go here.

“A beautiful place to visit”

Just got back from 4 days in the Dominican. We stayed at the Casa Marina Beach. While I plan to return to the Dominican Republic, as we loved the country/people/culture, I would not stay at this resort again. This is definitely a 3 star resort, so our expectations were not very high to begin with. It was just okay. The grounds and beach were wonderful. Everything is nicely landscaped and there is plenty of beach seating. We mainly stayed on the reef side of the beach, which was quieter. Water was clear and warm. Grounds and beach were clean for the most part. I did wake up early in the morning for walks and there was a good deal of left over cups and trash from the night before, but this all eventually got cleaned up. Bars were conveniently located and staff was friendly for the most part.

The food and room were the worst parts of this trip. The food was just different tasting and I had an upset stomach for most of the trip. We mainly did the buffet and I still did not enjoy much. Stuck with the pasta, rice and bread (carb city). My husband is less picky then me foodwise, but he had the same reaction. The restaurants are nicer, but we ate at the Mexican restaurant one night and I ordered the chicken chimichanga which ended up having chicken bones in it. Needless to say, that did not settle well with me when my stomach was already hurting!! Even desserts were bland. There is a gift store to get snacks. A candy bar never tasted so good. The rooms were very basic, which is okay with me as we were not there much. But my husband and I did share one of the double beds, and the faucet in the shower came off at one point. There were NO BUGS, which I was grateful for. Room was clean, but the maid never restocked the bottled water.

We booked an excursion directly through Mel Tour, which is right across the street from the resort. They were very friendly and we negotiated a good price. We were originally going to visit Paradise Island, however my stomach was not up for a 3 hour bus trip, so we were able to rebook for the next day and did the Sun Jeep tour, which was awesome. Best part of our whole trip was seeing the countryside and going to the 27 waterfalls. I highly recommend this tour--the waterfalls were so much fun. You did alot of climbing, but then got to slide down like a water slide.

So, we will return. Most likely will go to the other side of the island to Punta Cana though.

“Roaches...Roaches...Roaches!!!”

This had to be the worse room I have ever stayed in... Had an oceanview room on the beach side overlooking the pool. However, the air conditioner did not work well and the room was infested with Roaches and Ants.

I enjoyed the city of Sosua, but this resort is for Seniors or a person that wants to rest with no action at night. Also, this is no place for African Americans... I was treated horribly from the tourist from England. "I guess they think slavery still exist".

I will visit Sosua again, but I will never stay at the Casa Marina Beach and Reef!!!
