We had great expecations, at over £400 a night, one is entitled to have great expectations.
The Room; Very nice
The Bar; A throwback from the 60s and in dire need of refurbishment
The Public Area's; Grubby carpets and grubby furniture in dire need of refurbishment
The Restuarant; Hit and miss food with just three or four coices of starter, main and dessert
Breakfast; Very poor in terms of qulity and choice. Fruit juice is not fresh
Outside Area's; Grubby and dated
Pool Area; Small, not drinks menu is offered and lunch is prety grim, to say the least
Overall, the experience is of a standard three starr hotel, but several times the price
Welcome at Check in; Frosty with no welcome whatsoever - until the very good guest relations manager stepped in and we finally got into a room at 16.30, with a check i time of 15.00
Check our; Wanted to keep our room for a couple of hours, check out time is 11.am, they said our room was booked out, we checked at 17.30 and the room was unocupied and had not been cleaned from our check. Nobody who checked out the same time as us got to stay a few hours more in the room and
an 11am check out is only meant ti encourage guests to book another day! It is ridiculous this day and age.

Well what can i say, the Cambridge Beaches were fantastic, from the smooth arrival at Bermuda International Airport to the private transfer taking us to the Cambridge Beach, it was all just fabulous.

The check-in staff were great and the room that we had ( a Deluxe Premium Waterfromt Room) was out of this world and had views as good as anywhere in the world.

The breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.

Afternoon tea was great with fine teas and sandwiches and scones good enough to be served at the Ritz !!

As for dinner, we truly ate like kings and queens, the choice was good and the freshness of the food was second to none.

The spa was also very good, although the Gym was a little inadequate - but i did'nt go on holiday to work out !!

The bar was good and not over priced, and the overall ambience of the resort was absolutely perfect.

I can not wait to return to the Cambridge Beach, and Bermuda.

I have travelled exstensively throughout the world, and this has gone straight in at number 1.

“Overrated and overpriced”

This has to be the most overrated hotel on the planet. How much would you be willing to pay for a waterfront “cottage” in Bermuda? OK maybe $460 US isn’t too much.

Actually $460 was the price we were quoted for a garden-view cottage but when we arrived the smell of mildewed carpet was so strong we were driven from the room. The front desk informed us that we’d have to pay $200 extra per night to be given a room that didn’t smell of mildew. At last they relented and upgraded us at no charge.

Back to the water-front cottage. Even this room (tiled floor) smelled vaguely of mildew and I wondered about the lack of air filtering system.

I was traveling with a girlfriend and we had requested two beds in the room. The mattresses (they had separated a king into two twins) were excruciatingly hard and I spent a sleepless first night thinking, “I’m paying $460 for this???” The next morning, I complained about the mattress and they pushed the two beds back together and installed a kind-sized pillow top.

The furnishings are “Bermudian antiques, unique to each cottage.” Think flea market quality.

The food is exquisite but outrageously expensive and priced in US dollars. A glass of cheap Pinot Grigio is $9.50 and sun screen was $28 at the spa gift store.

The staff is wonderful but the service is incredibly slow – room service appears in a reasonable 20 minutes but it can take all day for them to retrieve your used tray even after a phone request or two and housekeeping arrives around 3 in the afternoon.

The spa is lovely and there are indoor and outdoor pools but both Jacuzzis were inoperable during our visit.

My husband and I have just returned from ten wonderful days at Cambridge Beaches , we now face the dilemma of do we tell everyone how fantastic this place is or do we keep it a secret .
The rooms are beautiful, the food is excellent and the staff are exceptionally helpful and friendly. The new pool area is fantastic and very well situated with great views of the Bay.

We felt we had to visit the current number one Trip Advisor hotel on the island and were so relieved that we had picked Cambridge Beaches as there is no question about which is the best.

If you are seeking high quality service. excellent food, great accomodation and fanastic views this is the only place for the discerning traveller.

“A magical weekend”

Cambridge Beaches

Apr 14, 2008

It's been a week since we returned from a long weekend at Cambridge Beaches and we're still basking in the "after glow". It was a magical time for my husband and I (we were married there on 5 April 2008) and for the 40 or so guests who joined us. I cannot say enough good things about Cambridge Beaches, the staff, the quality of service, the food...the list goes on. Having been to Bermuda twice before, I was quite familiar with the island, however had never made it to Cambridge Beaches. Now, I doubt that we will go anywhere else on future trips.

It all started a few months ago. My husband and I had just recently gotten engaged and were determined to have a small and simple wedding away from our home city. We'd settled on Bermuda as a destination and had enquired about availability at a few hotels. One of our first choices (a large and well known Bermudian hotel that will remain nameless) had availability but we were given a laundry list of "additional fees" that needed to be paid to use the resort just for the privilege of being there. We also were informed that we had to hire a wedding planner...even though I'm in the travel business myself and have planned events for groups of more than 150 people, they insisted that a wedding planner was necessary. And last but not least, it seemed like the hotel was a wedding factory of sorts. Our preferred day wasn't available, but they could offer the following day...there would be another wedding that day. In fact, we were informed, the hotel had up to 3 weddings a day! So much for small and simple!

It was by luck, then, that we got in touch with Cambridge Beaches. My sister and brother in law had stayed there in 2005 and had only rave reviews. The level of service and responsiveness from the first email that was exchanged set a high standard. Nadja Talevi, the hotel's Guest Relations Manager is an absolute star. Personable, efficient, and highly responsive, she is became a trusted advisor in the run up to our trip. From booking rooms and transfers for our guests, to planning a menu (the Executive Chef Harald Klement is one of the best chefs in Bermuda), to making sure that we had the flowers we wanted, she made the planning process as seamless as possible.

The day we arrived in Bermuda, Nadja met us and ran through some last minute details that we hadn't even thought of ourselves. For the rest of the weekend, she was always available to us if we had questions, she hand delivered the boutonnieres and wedding bouquet and made sure that all of our guests were happy with their rooms. She was also there during the ceremony and at the cocktail reception afterwards to ensure every final detail was taken care of.

As for the rest of our stay, we describe it as a perfect weekend on vacation with our best friends. Most of them hadn't been to Bermuda before and were able to explore on scooters (there's a rental outlet of Oleander Cycles right on the Cambridge Beaches property). We were blessed with perfect sunny weather so spending some time at leisure by the fabulous swimming pool was also a favourite pastime. The other facilities -- from the gym and indoor pool, the spa, and the beaches -- were also put to good use. Everyone said that they would come back to Bermuda and stay at Cambridge Beaches.

As for the rooms, there are a few reviews on Trip Advisor that say they're a bit too old fashioned, don't have flat screen TVs, etc, etc. Personally I think no other style would work at a Bermuda Cottage Colony like Cambridge Beaches. The rooms were absolutely perfect in our opinion with unbelievable views of the sea everywhere you look. The Cambridge Suites in particular (Lily and Frangipani, to name two) were our favourites. In the Deluxe category, Skeeters was a stand out.

A last word about Cambridge Beaches -- at no point did we feel like we were fighting for space or attention with other guests. Each staff member from the restaurant to the bar men (Khoo gets top marks for his fantastic service at the Port O' Call Bar) to the bell men and spa staff were personable and made each guest feel quite special.

Thank you again to Cambridge Beaches for a perfect vacation and a magical wedding.
