Okay, the Maui Lu isn't ultra modern, but it has spacious rooms, your choice of air conditioning or cross-ventilation, and a good location on the South shore, at the end of Kihei nearest the cross-island highway. The room and bath were clean, if a little rundown. The beds were excellent! Great mattresses! Amenities included a refrigerator, a coffeemaker and a safe in the room; a microwave was available in back of the reception desk, which also had coffee and tea available and a couple of computers where we printed our return boarding passes & checked email. Nice wooden walkways to the rooms, and a pleasant garden. Picnic area shaded by trees. There's a pool, although we never got around to using it, and the ocean and a sandy beach are right across the road. The staff was helpful, especially the young lady at the tour desk. She mapped places for us and told us about a restaurant we liked so well, we ate there 4 times! (The Big Wave, in Kihei). We thought the hotel was an excellent bargain and would definitely stay there again.
