Westin Maui Resort And Spa

The Westin Maui Resort had some very great features. It was on Lahaina Beach, which you could swim in. The pools and water playground were awesome.....if you have kids - it's even better.

It was next to multiple shopping centers and restaurants. You could just walk out and have what many others would have to drive for. PAC SUN, Coach, Luis Vuitton, Rolex, ....all were here. ABC Store was next door for you to buy all the little grocery and economical gifts. It had a beautiful garden with Kois, Flamingos, Macaws, etc. A multi-level garden incorporated with multi-level pools (including two water slides) was functionally picturesque.

Now the bad.... Because it was next door to all those things......businesses needed trucks to bring them items. Trucks arrived in the very early morning hours. My ocean front room echoed sounds of trucks backing up with its "beep beep beep" every morning. I could hear other rooms sliding their doors shut on what was before occupied by the serene sounds of waves.

But the worst of it was that one day, I came back from a long excursion to Hana............and my bed was partially made. A luxury hotel with partially made bed! I called the manager "Jason" and he said he trusted me and did not need to see it. He offered to send someone up to make it right away. I usually leave tips at the end of my stay. Made me wonder if it was retaliation for me not leaving it on a daily basis? Jason assured me that was not the practice and it was not up to the hotel's standards. Was room service staff indifferent or had hidden agendas? At the same time I discovered this, my suitcase was also opened. I'm willing to blame this on myself. Nothing was missing, and maybe I forgot to close it since I had to leave early that morning for Hana. Coupled with the way my bed was made, I had my doubts. It seems like someone finished making the bathroom, and then did something to rush through the bedroom.

Now I'm not a picky guy. I've been know to overlook details others will not tolerate. This was ridiculous.

I have been to less rated hotels including economy hotels where beds were made better. For a 4-star hotel and with the availability of other competition, do you think I needed to tolerate this. Would you? For your own judgment, I've attached pictures the way my two beds were made that day. One was made better than the other, but both were in my opinion sub-standard to even lesser hotels. Judge for yourself if this is what you want from a luxury hotel. I hope my experience was an isolated one; however, for me, there's too many other fine hotels to take a risk again.

My husband and I stayed at the Westin Maui the week leading up to Memorial Day. The hotel was apparently overbooked when we checked in, so we got upgraded from a Garden View to an Ocean View room, but unfortunately there were 2 full-size beds in the room we got which was a bit disappointing since we'd originally booked a king-sized bed. The room was nicely kept, although a little small.

The 5(!) pools were very nice, although most of the deck chairs were reserved very early on by people who never seemed to arrive! It could be hard to find a seat in the shade.

The hotel has a great location on the beach -- right next door is the Whaler's Village, a little shopping area with food court and restaurants, and a little walking path leads up to Black Rock where there is great snorkeling.

The hotel has really beautiful public spaces -- the lobby has a big garden fountain with flamingos and koi fish. Most of the staff were very helpful and nice. The restaurants were okay, a little overpriced for the food, though.

Overall it was a very nice stay, although somewhat expensive, especially considering the size of the bed/room.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Westin. I know some reviewers have said that they've encountered a lot of children. We didn't find that to be the case. Perhaps it's because school was still in session?

The grounds are gorgeous. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The pools are fabulous, so are the walking path and the beach. We went swimming everyday. We enjoyed the water slides and did the 2-3 times a day too. :) The hotel is in a wonderful location, just off Whaler's village and close to many shops and restaurants.

The hotel has a number of activities each day for adults and children alike, from singers to hula dancers. My husband and I were celebrating a special anniversary. They provided us with free champagne and a nice note.

We booked a partial oceanview room, room 1515. We overlooked the pool, the waterfall and the ocean. We had a lovely patio with two chairs and a small table.

They have a larger than average gym with a huge window that looks out over the resort. It was very nice. It's next door to the spa. It looked really nice, but we did not use the facility.

My only complaint about this facility is that it doesn't have closests! There is an amoure and drawers but it could have used more storage.

We would definitely go back though.

“Just beautiful!!”

Westin Maui Resort And Spa

We stayed at the Westin Maui for 6 nights during our honeymoon trip to Hawaii. It truly is a gorgeous resort!!

We spent our days lounging around the beautiful pools, reading and drinking cocktails. Oh, and eating the delicious spicy chicken wings by the pool.

Everything about this hotel is amazing. The beautiful lobby, the flamingoes, the perfect location, right on the beach... Just fabulous!!

We headed over to Whaler's Village quite a bit for lunches, and shopping. Cute little shopping centre with some yummy restaurants - and only a 2 minute walk away!

The free shuttle to Lahaina was excellent too. We used it almost every day, either to grab a lunch or dinner, or to go shopping, or to the Lahaina Luau, which I also highly reccomend. There's something so relaxing about sitting on that little bus, listening to Hawaiian music, being taken wherever you liked in Lahaina, then picked up a couple of hours later!

The only downside to our stay was a small one. We had booked a room with an ocean view. When we checked in, they gave us a room overlooking the roof of Whaler's Village, next door. We headed straight back down to reception and asked to change rooms, since that's not what we requested. Apprently they had upgraded us, because that room was larger than what we booked. But... we didn't want a big room, we wanted a nice view! After a bit of coaxing, they eventually gave us what we asked for. Phew. When we thought about it later, we really thought they were just trying to give us a bad room, because they wanted to get rid of it. That made me a bit annoyed.

Our new room was fantastic. Just what we were hoping for. Still really big, but with a fabulous view overlooking the pools and the ocean. And yes, we saw lots of whales in the ocean!!

Did I mention how fun the waterslides were!? We were on our honeymoon with no kids, but we had a blast on the slides!! Why not!?

If you fancy treating yourself, this hotel is definitley the place to do it. Splurge and treat yourself - you'll love it!! I wish I was still there right now, sipping a Tropical Monkey cocktail by the beautiful pools... Ahhhh. :)

“A Wonderful Place. We will return!”

Westin Maui Resort And Spa

Our first stay with the Westin Maui was a year and a half ago on an offer we received from Starwood for $750 for 5 nights+free rental car and $100 resort voucher. How could we pass that up? We loved it so much that we had to return and decided to stay there for 3 nights on a 6 night Maui stay (The other 3 nights were South at the Grand W.) I booked using the cash and points option from Starwood which was awesome-4000 points+$90 a night! I have Gold Status, but wasn't sure if we would get upgraded due to booking partially with points, but we did! Garden View was what we booked, but we got Ocean View!

The hotel has all the ameneties you need and has about the most wonderful beach and warm ocean water you could ever imagine. Great snorkeling is just down the beach at Black Rock and the pools are awesome. The breakfast buffet was absolutely scrumptous and the work out facility is excellent-but it does get busy. The staff is friendly and happy to help you schedule activities and the concierge is very helpful. Go to The Gazebo for breakfast! You will have to wait at least 30 minutes-but it is worth it!

If I had to make a recommendation of staying here and when we do it again for a stay of say, 3 nights or longer-I would go to the ABC store and purchase 2 chairs or loungers and an umbrella to use on the beach. The Westin will charge you $25/day for this combo and if you have a 7 night stay, it will add up. You can also do just loungers, which I think is $10 and but the umbrella for like $15. The beach is so wonderful, I can't imagine why so many people spend so much time at the pool.

The rooms are very nice, although not huge. The service for the rooms is excellent as they seemingly know immediately when you have left the rooms. The decks are not large, but enough to sit and read a book for two and have a drink.

Also of note is that if you go during high season, the hotel and nearby restaurants, etc. will be busy. This is where Maui gets a frown from some people because there are just too many people. Not a Westin problem, but just something to think about when discussing whether to spend time on West Maui vs. South, which doesn't get nearly as busy.

The Westin Maui is a wonderful experience that is not completely upscale, but in a way that is good. It's real people having a REALLY good time vs. the semi-sterile environment of The Four Seasons.
