“The Onyx is Fantastic!”

Onyx Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

Stayed at the Onyx for four nights after a 6 night hetic stay in New York and the relaxed friendly atmosphere was exactly what was needed! The wine hour between 5 & 6 is worth taking advantage of, a free cold glass of wine after a day sightseeing is a must.
The hotel is in no more than 10 minutes walk from the North End where there are the most amazing Italian restaraunts, bars, cafes and bakeries and is also only around 10 minutes walk to Quincy Market where there are lots of shops and places to eat also, the waterfront is also only around a 10 minute walk away. I can see why some people would say that the area where the hotel is located is not the best, the station is at the top end of the street and I only walked that way once with my other half in daylight and I confess I would not want to walk around there at night but this is an up and coming area of Boston so I am sure it will get better. We did not eat in the hotel at all, we had breakfast at the Au Bon Pan which is just across the road and they do hot and cold bagles, pastries etc, only thing is it is not open on Sunday so we had pastries in Mikes on Havana Street, you must try them and their cookies are to die for! The hotel staff were always helpful and polite, the room was gorgeous, very comfortable and modern and the bathrooom was a nice size.
We had some great evening meals in the North End which is the Italian area in the city, Havana Street is the main Street, it gets very busy on a Friday or Saturday night so if you wonder down there in the day and see somewhere you want to eat then I would recommend booking, some places have 2 hour waits for tables at the weekend! However, I would say do not over look Salem Street which is around the corner from Havana Street. We found an absolute gem of a restaraunt there called La Galleria 33, the food was fantastic and the lady who is the owner is an absolute gem, the second time we ate there she chose our dishes for us and they did not disappoint! It was very reasonably priced and really nice inside, if you do decide to eat there you will know who I mean, she is the lady who literally pulls people in off the street, tell her the English couple who will visit on their honeymoon sent you! You will receive a very warm welcome I can assure you!

“Great Hotel!”

Onyx Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Cleveland, Ohio
Jun 24, 2008

Great place to stay in Boston. Next to the Garden and <5 min walk to the North subway station. Friendly service! Nice linens, comfortable size rooms, free wine from 5-6pm in the lobby, Aveda products.

Would have given this hotel an "excellent" rating but be warned of the loud banging noise if staying next to the electric room. Almost sounded like a jack hammer going off once per hour for about 3 secs. Not too sure what the noise was but became used to it.

Check Priceline for GREAT deals!!!!

“Really nice hotel”

Onyx Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

Berkshire, England
Jun 22, 2008

We stayed at the Onyx twice in a fortnight at each end of a tour of New England, having stayed at Kimpton hotels before. These stays were as expected, nice room and very good service from all the staff we encountered. Location is fantastic for the centre of Boston either if you want to walk or get a cab.
Couldn't fault any of the services provided, very clean and well equipped and enjoyed the wine & beer hour which is a chance to chat to those who gather informally in the lobby each evening.
Would certainly return when in Boston.

“Onyx - another Boston winner!”

Onyx Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

Jun 21, 2008

Four of us stayed at the Onyx the night of the NBA Finals in the penthouse. We believe the Onyx, the Onyx staff and the Celtics to be winners.

Onyx staff emailed us before our arrival and asked if we had any requests for our visit. I emailed them a short list, including a couple specific items. Upon our arrival, waiting in our rooms were the exact items on our list.

Everyone from the parking attendant to front desk staff greeted us as old friends, even though it was our first visit to Boston.

Our rooms were immaculate and with four of us in the penthouse, we each had our own bathroom. Each exceptionally clean and well stocked with quality products.

Many things are within close walking distance of the Onyx, such as the subway, restaurants, shopping and of course the Garden. it doesn't get much more convenient.

We were driving a slightly unusual vehicle that created a minor problem for parking, but Onyx staff managed to park it safely away for the evening without complaint and made special arrangements for our late departure the next day.

Security was not a concern the night of the NBA final, as the Onyx staff had prepared a letter of procedures hotel staff would follow and hotel guests could follow for festivities after the game. We felt at ease and secure during our visit.

We watched the game from our living/office area of the penthouse and enjoyed the wet bar facilities and the large TV.

Did I mention we had a great nights sleep, well we did as the beds are great.

We would enjoy returning and recommend a visit to the Onyx to anyone.

“Enjoyable Stay”

Onyx Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Santa Barbara, CA
Jun 11, 2008

Stayed one night. Found the hotel typical of Kimptons hotels, meaning very nice. Something I wish I knew about before I booked is that they have kayaks and bicycles for use by guests. Close to subway.

Found the restaurant food alright, service was good.

Dear jersb,
Thank you for your review of your recent stay. I believe that you stayed at our sister property in Cambridge, the Hotel Marlowe. At the Marlowe we do offer guests kayaks and bicycles for day use along the Charles River. I have spoken to our manager and we agree that we should let guests know about this when they are booking their reservation. I’m glad to hear that overall you enjoyed your stay and enjoy Kimpton Hotels. Thank you very much for your comments.
