“Perfect Place, Good Price!”

Bulfinch Hotel Boston

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Bullfinch. I booked it after reading a few reviews on tripadvisor and finding that it was one of the less expensive hotels in downtown Boston. We arrived to a courteous bellman who helped us with our baggage. Then, the desk attendant told us that they didn't have the room that I had booked! I was pissed! She told us that she would have to upgrade us to a room with a King Size bed. Yeah, right... I thought. Well, as it turned out, she DID upgrade us to a very nice room, one at the apex of the triangular hotel and the room was very nice. Crisp, clean, heavy sheets, very clean bathroom, etc.

One of the nicest things was some of the staff. The bellman was very friendly and helpful and got a map out and drew where we wanted to go and pointed out some other things (restaraunts, etc.) of where we might want to go.

Also the bar was nice for a drink of too. A little pricey but they also had some nice appetizer-type food. Try the little "slider" (mini-burgers). They were really good! The bartender was really fun to talk with - knew a lot about the area, the local sports teams (Red Sox, Celtics, etc.) so we all had a great time. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

“Great Deal, Great Hotel”

Bulfinch Hotel Boston

Apr 15, 2008

The rooms are on the smaller side, but not bad at all. I booked through a discount site, so I got a fantastic deal, a really amazing price for Boston. The hotel was clean and updated, had a great feel to it. The staff was friendly and helpful, despite being very busy. Its about a block from the TD Banknorth Garden and the North Station, and just a couple blocks from Quincy Market. For being so close to the Garden, with the Bruins in the finals, and with a Bruins win, the hotel was surprisingly quiet. We were actually there for a Red Sox vs. Yankees game, and got back late, but its was a great stay. Highly recommended.

“Small, convenient and nice”

Bulfinch Hotel Boston

4 of 5 stars
Sheboygan Wisconsin
Apr 2, 2008

Yes, the rooms are indeed small. There is just a shower--not a tub. They have down comforters with an additional blanket on the bed--strip the extra blanket or turn on the air.

I enjoyed a quiet, pleasant stay. Rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly. Did not hear noise from another room at any time--even though we saw people coming and going.

The doorman saw that I was looking on a map, and went and got what he thought was a better map for me.

Location is great. Use the North Station subway or Haymarket seemed even closer.

I would stay here again. The New England aquarium was awesome. People would offer help if you were looking at a map or the subway charts. Thanks to the Bostonians who were indeed helpful.

Antonios is an Italian restaurant just a few blocks away and not on the North end. Had a great meal here. We actually got into Giacomos (spelling) --The restaurant that Rachel Ray reviewed. Prices were good and food was super. I don't think that you can go wrong anywhere on the North end.

Be sure to check out Michael's pastry. Modern pastry is wonderful, too. Too bad that the ice cream infused cupcake place closed.

We go to visit my daughter and would not hestitate to stay here again.

This is not a super high-class hotel with a concierge, etc. Just clean, quiet with a nice location. If that meets you needs, book it!

“Poor Service - Rooms are a Closet”

Bulfinch Hotel Boston

2 of 5 stars
Boston, MA
Mar 25, 2008

Website pictures misleading. Rooms are the size of a closet.

I called and they told you they have a valet for parking - then when I arrived the service was "not here today", so I had to self park at a lot 3 blocks away.

Also - they told me that room service was available, then yupon arrival - it is only for dinner - no breakfast.

Security is an issue. I was sitting in the lobby waiting for my family to come downstairs and a person walks in off the street and asks for the room number of a guest. He gives the name and the front desk clerk nonchalantly goes to the computer and gives the room number out.

I would not recommend for a single person traveling alone.

Lack of service continued when a guest asked for a dinner recommendaiton in the North End and the front dest clerk resonded by saying - "Oh, there are plenty of paces to choose from."

I live in Boston and I was embarrased to hear this.

Bottom line - not worth it.
