“Wonderful Experience at the Dauphine Orleans”

Dauphine Orleans Hotel

I visited New Orleans for two separate trips in June of 2008 and stayed at two different hotels in the French Quarter. I've visited this city numerous times pre- and post-Katrina, including this hotel. I stayed in Room 238 for my second trip this month, which is located across the street from the main hotel in the Hermann House buildings/courtyard. I have no complaints whatsoever about this room or my stay at the hotel, which is saying a lot for me. This room is equipped with a fantastic king-size Tempurpedic bed, exposed brick walls, marble countertops, a refrigerator (a big perk in this city with its fabulous restaurants), and a double-headed shower/tub with a jacuzzi. The room smelled fine and was extremely clean. There was great, consistent water pressure and plenty of hot water, both important. There is a daily afternoon tea and full fitness center in the main building area, and we received complimentary welcoming cocktails for the on-site bar (May Bailey's), and all of these were enjoyable. We did not partake of the included continental breakfasts at the hotel, as we were out at some of my preferred morning eateries instead. The staff allowed us an early check-in upon our arrival, which isn't typical of my experiences in New Orleans. I was advised of some construction/renovation going on, but didn't see or hear anything to that effect in the main areas or near our room. Our departure was marred a bit by the airport shuttle leaving without us (!!) but the hotel did its best to rectify the situation. My advice is to skip the now-iffy shuttle and take a taxi, which showed up in less than two minutes and cost the same based on two people ($28 total plus tip). The Dauphine Orleans' location is not as central as some of my other preferred French Quarter hotels, but it is still within a few blocks of everything...it just depends on what the "everything" is that you want. It's a block away from Bourbon Street, and a few blocks from Jackson Square. Overall, my experience at the Dauphine Orleans this time around was very positive, and I would stay here again.

I stayed at the Dauphine from June 10 to the 16th. I was worried after reading several reviews about the staff and the overall condition of the hotel (as many have said as well) but it turned out to be wonderful! I was on the 4th floor in room 404 which is newly renovated and that floor is complete, the 3rd floor was under renovation but we heard no construction noise our entire stay (they are not renting out the unrenovated rooms). The air in our room worked perfectly, which let me tell you after walking around in 90 degree weather all day it was quite nice to come back to a very chilled room! The bathroom is updated (see pictures) with full marble (this was a standard double bed room). It has tempurpedic mattresses which mold to your body after a few min of laying down and a flat screen tv for your viewing enjoyment. Maid service was great except for one day when we slept in until almost 11 (long night on bourbon) and they skipped our room, but with one call to the front desk we had fresh towels and bed linens at our door in minutes. Valet parking was marginal, we had to wait numerous times for the parking attendant to show up, even with that problem I do recommend the service because street parking is horrible and you cant find a spot nearby thats longer than 2hr parking. They have a continental breakfast that is very good but be warned, get there before 10 (it goes till 11) because they don't restock anything, so when the last bagel is gone, its gone and thats it.....I recommend just doing brunch at a restaurant nearby. The grounds are wonderful and the pool area is clean but small. The bar is dark and outdated but great for your free drink voucher that you get upon arrival. The hotel is within walking distance to everything the French Quarter has to offer as well as the riverwalk, harrahs casino, and the aquarium/imax. It is a very family friendly hotel and it felt very safe for our stay. The elevators do open up to the parking garage and they do smell of gas, but what do you expect? it opens up to the garage! Space is very limited in this city. The lobby is upscale and the lady's behind the front desk are nice and helpful. This was a very nice boutique hotel that has charm which a run of the mill holiday inn or best western just don't have. I plan to stay here again on my 2nd visit to NOLA next year!

“Great find!”

The staff was very friendly and the price was right! The location was very good. They are currently doing some renovation work, but our room was completed. It was very clean, well kept. We had no complaints. Renovations were going on at about 10 a.m. during the week, so if you want to sleep in during the week, it may not be condusive. The hotel is one block away from Bourbon St. There was music from nearby businesses late at night but nothing too outrageous. Breakfast included hot waffles. All in all, it was super!

“Nice Butt”

The hotel and staff were very nice. Nevertheless the last thing you want to hear at 5:00am is the staff taking out the garbage it sounded 20 min. like a train wreck every morning. Don't stay on the side with the parking garge view the noise is constent. I party with the best and go to bed at 3:00 3:30 or at least I tried. This does not even count the construction that starts at 8:00am every morning.

“Totally overrated - don't bother!”

I booked this hotel based on all of the positive reviews I found on tripadvisor and I was very disappointed. The first room they put us in had dirty, damp carpet and smelled of mildew. They did move us to a "premium" room at no extra cost, but the premium room was simply a bigger room with slightly updated carpet and the same outdated furnishings and dingy linens. The front desk staff was decent and the pool area was pleasant, but everything else was just really bad. Both elevators broke down while we were there and the breakfast was terrible. All of the food was tasteless and cheap and they served it all on paper plates and with plastic silverware. Don't bother - there are a lot better options in New Orleans!
