“Delightful, affordable hotel”

Maison St. Charles Inn and Suites

The Maison St. Charles is a delightful, affordable hotel in the Garden District in New Orleans. The rooms are large, clean, and comfortable with free wireless internet. I loved the pool and spa, and the continental breakfast was substantial with surprisingly healthy options (New Orleans is not known for its health food). The hotel service was great, I was always easily accommodated no matter what I needed. There is a street car line basically at the hotel's front door and it will take you to the French Quarter, but I preferred the 20-minute walk. I have no complaints about the Maison St. Charles, and I highly recommend it to those traveling to New Orleans for business or pleasure.

“Great stay!!”

Great price, clean room, visible security, great location, quiet, friendly & helpful staff. I liked coming home at night and stopping in the lobby for a cup of tea!

Just can't beat the streetcar & bus stops across the street. So easy to hop on the streetcar & get dropped of right at Canal & Bourbon! Get the visitor's pass to jump on & off the streetcar, I had a great time doing this. Took the streetcar down to the Garden District, jumped off at Audobon Park, took a nice stroll, back on the streetcar to the end where there was a really nice little cafe Le Madeleines, fresh pastries, tea. then back on the streetcar!

3 blocks down, super restaurant, Zea! Give it a try. I was in town just a short time before/after cruise, but can't wait to go back! New Orleans is so beautiful and very easy to get around! Between walking & the convenient public transportation, no cars needed!

As a woman traveling alone, I felt safe & secure at the Maison St. Charles, and actually the whole time I was in New Orleans!

“Loved It!”

Stayed here 3/15 for one night prior to departing on a cruise. I had a really hard time finding hotels under $200 since it was Spring Break. I luckily found this one, and paid $112 with tax, plus $14/night for parking.

The hotel is on St. Charles, the trolley stops right in front of hotel. Emeril's Delmonico steak house is directly across the street. There are numerous restaurants within walking distance.

The hotel is completely gated, had 2 security guards on duty. Nice courtyard, numerous people hanging out---quietly! drinking and talking. I never felt unsafe, even walking at night to eat.

The room was your usual mid price hotel room, clean, with comfy beds. I had no problems with the room. We had second floor. There are 3 levels, with elevators.

Went down just to view the free cont. breakfast, and it was very lacking. Basically fruit, muffins, and toast. But we were eating at Cafe Dumond, so it did not affect us.

I would definately stay here again, and would recommend to others. Again, average hotel, not the Hilton. Very quaint, cute buildings, with nice pool area.

“Okay...”

Maison St. Charles Inn and Suites

Mar 30, 2008

This is a quaint old place. The websites (including Trip Advisor) make it difficult to fully get the "vibe" of it. First, we had no problems with the staff. Everyone was polite and accommodating. I called the front desk for extra pillows and they were delivered in less than 5 minutes. The hotel is made of of several different buildings. Some were old houses and others are more "run-of-the-mill" hotel type buildings. We were in one of the smaller buildings (room 247). The room was relatively comfortable but extremely SMALL. There was one double bed, one chair and one small desk. There was a closet built into the wall but there was no bureau of any kind (meaning no drawers -- anywhere). There were hardwood floors (a nice touch). They offer a free continental breakfast that starts at 6:30 AM on weekdays and 7:00 on weekends. If you are an early riser (as I am), there is NO WHERE to go before that. The area is a little questionable; even the front desk advised me not to walk around too much in the dark, so you are out of luck if you want something other than the yucky in-room coffee. There are some restaurants around (some nice, some fast food) but they don't open early either.

For a nice dinner I highly recommend Emeril's Delmonico. It is right across the street and is great. It's a little pricey but the service and food are terrific. Although it is nice, we saw people there dressed in jeans (but no tacky T shirts), so I guess there really isn't a dress code. There is a scary neighborhood bar (The Daiquiri Bar, I think...) with some homeless-looking people hanging around, about a block away from the hotel. Be careful where you go.

There is a trolley stop right outside the hotel which is very handy for seeing the local sights. We bought an all-day pass (from the front desk) for $5.00 each. Well worth it!

All in all I recommend it, but don't expect anything too fancy. It is somewhat reminiscent of an old-time Key West guest house. No frills but everything you need. Just be careful where you go at night.

“Unique & a real pleasure”

Our first time in the Big Easy & we couldn't have picked a better hotel for authenicity. Talking to one of the staff it transpires that some of the accommodation was part of the old slave quarters. Picturesque courtyards & a spacious room which was peaceful & quiet. The staff were friendly & helpful, but the biggest plus was the location. Just accross from the tram which took us through the Garden District to the unmissable Auduborn Zoo & within easy strolling distance of French Quarter, Shopping centre & the wonderful Magazine St shops. We only ate in the hotel once, as we soon discovered the excellent quality & value food at the St Charles Tavern, just 2 blocks down. It was a pleasure to experience such Southern hospitality & the lovely people of New Orleans - we can't wait to return!
