“Wonderful experience”

Omni Royal Orleans

5 of 5 stars
Pearl, Mississippi
Jun 22, 2008

One of my best friends and I had a wonderful experience staying at the Omni. The valet and front desk staff were so courteous and friendly and the lobby was immaculate. The room was clean and had a terrific view, of course we asked for a room with a view. And the bedding was very comfortable, we slept well. The location really is supurb, 1 block from Bourbon Street, yet far enough away that we heard no noise. Only thing that I was disappointed about was that they had closed the rooftop pool bar due to rain. Once the rain had stopped, they didn't reopen it and that was one of the reasons that I chose this hotel to begin with. I will check the weather next time and come when it's pretty enough to swim and have a drink. Other than that one issue, it was a wonderful stay and I would definately return!

“Nice hotel, great location”

Omni Royal Orleans

4 of 5 stars
Houston

My husband and I just spent the weekend at this hotel. The hotel is pretty and is very New Orleans. The terrace on the top (7th) floor is a very nice place for a swim or a drink and has a wonderful view of the quarter.

The standard rooms are very small. This isn't a problem if it's just you and your partner, but just be warned (think an efficiency in Manhatan).

The best part of the hotel was its location. You can walk to any place in the quarter within 10 minutes. The service was also very friendly and the flowers give the hotel a wonderful aroma.

We had one little snafu when we checked in - we were given the wrong room, but the reception comped us our lunch at the Rib Room for what was really a very minor inconvenience.

The Rib Room, is nice. A great cool jazz band plays there. It is fairly expensive and you can find good food for less money in the quarter. We ate at the Gally - fantastic oysters on the half! St. Chartres House - good, but expensive, po boys. And of course, Cafe du Monde for wonderful, inexpensive and very messy beingets.

You'll have a nice time at this hotel. If you are skipping the B&Bs and staying central in the quarter, this is probably your best bet - unless you don't mind forgoing the entire ambiance of the quarter for a cheaper place (like a Ramada).

“Enjoyed the Omni”

Omni Royal Orleans

Jun 10, 2008

My husband and I stayed recently at the Omni and very much enjoyed our stay. The room we were given was spacious and clean. The roof top pool had a beautiful view. The location of the Omni cannot be beat. It is in the heart of the French Quarter and allows you to pop in and out of your room easily.

My only complaints were: the pool could use a cleaning (it wasn't filthy but it wouldn't be a bad idea) and we saw a palmetto bug (cockroach) on the 3rd floor. When we called the front desk to take care of the matter, we waited 1/2 an hour. My husband called many times and still no one came. My husband ended up killing it (it appeared to have come up the elevator shaft and was crawling around the hallway).

“Half okay, half not-so-much”

Omni Royal Orleans

2 of 5 stars
Minneapolis
May 27, 2008

Location is great if you want to be in the middle of everything but far enough away from Bourbon. The staff was courteous, the lobby was gorgeous. But its an old hotel, so the elevators were creaky, the carpet in the hallways was old and dingy and the lighting was dim. The rooms were okay, not 4-star. The bed was very comfy. Bath was average. What was scary however was when we woke in the morning to check out, we couldnt take showers because there was no hot water. And I dont mean the water wouldnt get hot - I mean when you turned the hot water knob, a hollow bellowing sound of rusted pipes just shook and no water came out. Yikes. Stay at the Hilton!

“Great Location, Horrible Service”

Omni Royal Orleans

May 27, 2008

I booked our room here, a superior room with a King view, for 2 nights last weekend. Upon arriving, I called from the airport to say we were on our way in case it would be possible for early check in. They said that we'd be put on a list, and they would call when our room was ready.

We arrived, checked our bags in with the bellman, and went shopping, ate lunch, etc. We decided to stop by the front desk before heading to the superdome for the annual wine festival that we had tickets for, just to make sure a room was not available before heading over there. The girl behind the desk, Monique, said it would be just a bit longer. I checked back in 30 minutes. I was then told that housekeeping had actually been at lunch, but in 30 minutes room 716 would be ready for us. I went back up there in 45 minutes, I was told by another girl they were working on it. Finally, I went up there to see if it was ready and was advised that housekeeping CLEANED THE WRONG ROOM! Now, I want to make it very clear that we would have been totally fine if from the beginning we were told to proceed to the wine festival, early check in was not possible. Additionally, the rude attitude they gave us was ridiculous. Awful service for a 5 star hotel.

The only person at this hotel that provided decent service was the gentleman at the conceirge desk. Very nice.

I'd stay elsewhere due to lousy service.
